I really dislike when they use the dirty slides during the voiceovers.  It was really noticable today because they had a daylight scene when they were talking night happenings.  How hard would it be to have someone blow the dust away?
I enjoyed the shot of Maggie and Barnabas though the cell door as a reminder of their past relationship and then Willie comes in further reinforcing the reminders that they once had a past in this same house.  Then later at Collinwood when Barnabas says, "You are Maggie Evans."  I wanted to say, but not so long ago you wanted her to be someone in the past also.  When she was trying to remember who she was, I wanted her to say, "My name is--- Josette."  The episode shows how Barnabas has come full circle from being the one to fear to the protector.  I'm not sure Barnabas would see the irony of the situation.  He seems all consumed by his new role as protector even to the exclusion of his persuit of young women.

It was very moving to see the Collins family leave the house in which they have lived for so long and then to see the camera sweeping though the empty rooms left to the ghosts.  Joan and Louis did an excellent job of conveying their sorrow at leaving their home.

I would have to say that Maggie has been a failure as a governess.

Quentin is certainly one of the most menacing characters on the series and as an adult who has worked with children who suffered sexual abuse, I can see parallels in the storyline.  Thank goodness that Liz finally woke up and saw that the children are possessed.  Her reaction and the voiceover is one I well remember from this storyline.

Was Roger Davis popular with the audience at the time? I remember his picture appearing in fan magazines so he must have appealed to people at the time.  Even as a child I did not care for any of his characters and it's worse now because his acting and mannerisms are distracting.
Although it worked well when he lplayed the tate dummy
Quentin is becoming bolder. Trashing the drawing room must be a warning to everyone that he is on the scene.

I too thought that David would die and he must not be important to Quentin's plans anymore.  It must have been Amy's coming to Collinwood that set things in motion so she is more important than David.  If Quentin is so evil, then why does he want Chris dead or exposed.  One would think that he would want him to terrorize the countryside.
I notice that there is now a light switch at the bottom of the stairs to turn off the torchere's.  It always make me wonder who was in charge or continuity of sets when something appears without explaination or disappears and objects from one room find their way into another.  I guess either Liz or Mrs. Johnson like to rearrainge the house quite often.

The stormy background adds to the excitement of this episode.  I've always thought Chris and Carolyn were a good couple much better than any other she was involved with.   So Julia finally admits they are dealing with a ghost.   The break finally came to an end and he is back more horrible than ever.

Loved the Joan voiceover and the disembodied book in the opening.  I keeps one reminded of how different DS was from other shows of the time.
Dr. Hoffmans diagnosis of Mrs Johnson as a repressed hysteric was so funny, I wonder what the diagnosis of herself would be?
Now we know that Quentin and Beth are from 1897.  I found it exteremly odd that they turn on the lights and then Julia lights a candle and tries to read by the candlelight and  not take the books to where the light is and then to leave the picture instead of taking it to Barnabas.

When both Maggie and Mrs Johnson have described the same man it would seem that they would belive there is a man and not a dummy.

This was an Alexandra Motlke episode if there every was on and it made me miss her.  Great lighting on David as he recited his little tale.  I am struck by the contasts of what I remember from a child and what I see now.  Mrs. Johnson seemed to be a rather boring character to me then, but now I look forward to her episodes.  I only wish now, that the show had a larger budget for actors so she would have appeared more in episodes as she should have being the housekeeper and mostly housebound at Collinwood.

Considering David's past behavior, Liz should be more concerned by his present actions, but she lways seems to be a bit of a head in the sand person until she absolutely has to face up so a situation.
I like how the tension is building in the succession of episodes where everyone(but Liz) is slowly realizing that there is something going on with the children and that the children themselves are beginning to realize that things are spinning out of control.

most of the members of my family were 17 when they graduated High School due to our birthdays being after graduation.  I skipped a quarter or I would have been 21 when I graduated college.  Luckily I wasn't a descendant of Quentin or I'd have been facing his fate on my birthday.
One wonders why Barnabas decided to help Chris instead of destroying him as he did Tom.  Could it be because he has gotten to know Amy after Tom's death and doesn't want to see her alone in the world?

I think all Willie got was a sparsely furnished room with a candlestick the only decoration , light, and hiding place.   No electricity, hot water and Willie would probably have to draw water from a well as well as use an outhouse if there was one.  Not exactly an easy existence
