Aristede awakens to find the face of Barnabas Collins peering down and the simple minded one reacts in horror.
Quentin in the drawing room listening to classical music.  How arrogant is  Quentin's body with Petofi's mind to not care that he is acting totally unlike Quentin and how stupid that nobody seems to realize that something is going on.
Quentin recaps the Lady Hampshire storyline to bring eveyone up to speed, but really where did he find Ben's diary and how did he know that it would be useful to learn about Josette.  It seemed that Ben's diary was last seen in the Old House bravely weathering the passage of time during Laura's story.
Barnabas is back and reveals once again that he is a cousin from England.  He survives the dawn and Edward decides to go to the cave to the horror of Quentin's body with Petofi's mind.  Barnabas is still in the coffin and Angelique is missing. " What is going on," asks Edward at the dramatic ending.   The second Barnabas collapses.   A really good episode.

what happened to the music box in the interval seems to be another plotpoint sacrificed to storytelling over character development.  A scene where Rachel gave it back and explained why, would have done a lot to develop her character.
In regards to Kitty's station in life, I would think  that Petofi would find any other life than one of elite status to be contemptable.

The voiceover reveals that Lady Hampshire is drawn to a rendevouz with a man who is dead.  The door opens and it's Quentin.  How much more exciting if it had been the unstaked Barnabas.   Angelique works on the chains, but Aristede enters.
Kitty claims she has seen Barnabas and Edward wants to go to the cave to the discomfort of Quentin's body with Petofi's mind .
Barnabas is still in the coffin with the stake and breathing rather heavily for a dead man.   Flames surround Angelique.  Another good episode.

Quentin's body with Petofi's mind holds Angelique in the cave with the coffin.  He plans to have her sealed in the cave. What fun it could be if she does pull the stake from Barnabas and he rises and why did they not do that before?  It appears that somehow Petofi was able to take away the powers the Devil gave her.
Kitty is wandering with a gigantic key and is rather sharp with Edward.  She plans to leave Collinwood and changes her mind and the writes to her mother using the date 1797?  The Old House reappears after a long absence and Kitty finds herself in Josette's room with  Josette's portrait signed by someone named Coswell and the date 1797.  It makes no sense as Josette was dead by that time.  Kitty waits as footsteps echo in the hall.  A well paced and suspenseful episode.

I came across my cousin's copy of  "The Witches Bridge" when I was moving out of my house back to my childhood home last January and decided it was a keeper, but haven't come across it as  I've been unpacking.  I did find another Barbee Oliver Carleton book," The Secret of Saturday Cove,"  1961.  I read it the other day and it takes place in Maine which is her home state, although she later moved to Boston when she married.  The story is about a boy named David and his sister Sally who along with their clever friend Stokes are looking for the family treasure that was buried during the Revolutionary War by an ancestor who lived in the family's now abandoned old house.  The ancestor's name was Jonathan.  I kept thinking that maybe she had a premonition.  I also kept thinking that someone on Dark Shadows must have read this book.
My cousin and I used to get the Scholastic books also and only because my mother and my uncle liked that if you ordered so many you got free books.

They are filming in the gilded mirror.   They have been doing a lot of filming in mirrors and wonder if it is intentional to bring another dimension to the duality of the characters.   I particuarly like when the use the gilded mirror as it reminds me of the one that used to hang in the foyer of my home when I was a child.
It is interesting that Petofi seems to be able to have changed Charity, but is unable to control her or her visions.  Does the hand have a will of it's own and Petofi can't control it?   The plan is starting to unravel.  Aristede waits to use the torch on Angelique.

Should we care that Evan is to be buried alive?  He isn't exactly a sympathetic character and is rarely seen.  Quentin's body spares Evan.  Probably because Aristede is not around to bury him alive.  What a fun scene that could have been.  Aristede screaming his lines wild eyed as he shoveled dirt over Evan.
Quentin's body is suspicious of Angelique.
No not Tate again!.  The shade falls down as Charity enters.  This seems to be the foul up that most the actors recall when they talk about bloopers.  Charity produces 5,000 dollars for Amanda's picture.  I've totaly forgotten why.
Angelique foolishly lets her hiding place at shipwreck point be found and Crazy Charity is the one who has to clue her in that Quentin's body is not occupied by Quentin's mind.
Apparently spell check has finally caught on that Aristede is crooked and wants to replace his name with arrested.

Evan fail in the ceremony and  Quentin's body with Petofi's mind takes great pleasure in telling him it is so.  Evan seems to fail at everything and have little control over his life.
Trask is home and filling Edward with a pack of lies to Edward's glee.  Trask's surprise at Judiths,'"Good Evening Greggory."  is a great monment. Trask worms his way out of his lies, but Judith makes him come to her making it clear she is in control.   Then she drops the bomb that she has the power of attorney.  Which recalls to mind that magical confession story that was never resolved.
I suppose by now the writers had forgotten and Trask will never be exposed for the death of his wife.
Back to Evan who is digging his own grave, surprise, not!

Jeremiah's ghost is warning Kitty that "he will kill you."  Obviously in reference to Barnabas.
Quentin in Petofi's boby  finds he has the power of the hand.  Now this is an excitng plot development and now the fake Quentin doesn't hold all the cards.
Judith want's her power of attorney.  She must not trust Greg.

Joan Bennett is back in the voiceover and if one didn't already know who had come in during the seance, one should now.  I particuarly liked the line, " All that paint on your face."   I reminded me of when my grandmother came home from one of her functions that had inculded a "modern dance"  and how that was " shocking."   Then she says, "My Collinwood."  Then the reveal that she was in the sanitarium for four months and Greg never came once while he said he was visiting once a week and stayed overnight.  What can Greg have been doing?   Judith wants to save Pansy "from a cheap and tawdry life."  Things are picking up.
It is revealed that Judith bit her governess and that her parents were buried on the same day.  Judith didn't cry until afterwards and Quentin was the one who saw her.

Naturally Kitty is caught and uses her possession to free herself from suspicion.   We learn from Quentin with Petofi's mind that Gerald Soames died a jewel thief.  What an interesting story.  Too bad the writers seem to save in most interesting stories for the backstory and it's never shown.
This episode features no less than three characters who are dual personalities.  Quentin/Petofi, Kitty/Josette, and Charity/Pansy.
There is a seance.  They are always fun and I know who the figure in the door is and it's about time.

Quentin with Petofi's body fools Kitty into  believing and threatening her with the hand she is supposed to remember even though the gypsies had it until recently.  How soon the writers forget.  Edward forgets and calls her Katie.  Nora takes and instant dislike to Lady Hampshire and at least Nora knows that a child would never call and adult by her first name unless she preceded it with Aunt.  "This grownup likes to win."  was a fun line.  It seemed like Kitty had many opportunities to steal the Tate where she wouldn't get caught and squanders them.
Spell check suggested that I can Petofi to Prof.   I'm guessing it too longs for a return of the other Thayer David character.

Hasn't Petofi been around long enough?  He's got the body so why not move on to safer territory and get some distance from the dreaded gypsies.
Angelique pulls her dress out of a very modern looking clothes box.
Now Petofi's body can't get Beth to believe him and she knew the real Petofi was up to something.
Jullia is feeling strange.  The sound effects are really eerie in these scenes.   Julia looks pretty today and she often doesn't due to bad hair, clothing, make-up and lighting, but it seems to come together for a change.  Naturally the only one to believe Petofi's body is Julia and she is gone.

It was funny when Petofi told Aristede he'll have him try the I Ching.
Edward says he'll marry Lady Hampshire  because she is wealty.  Does that make him a golddigger also?
Petofi's body tries to tell Edward he is Quentin. Surely there is some way he can convince him who he is and get this out in the open.  Interesting camera angles in this scene,
Aristede gets a dock girl.  She's history.  Yes, she turns into a skeleton.  I keep thinking that there has to have been a better skeleton or at least skull out there.  My brother had a ceramic bank that looked more realistic than that.   [skelleton_runs]  This would have been better.

I've been thinking about the music box also.  Is it the ghost of Barnabas,  Angelique,  or the ghost of Josette?  If Kitty is the reincarnation of Josette then that would rule out the latter, but if she is, then she could have put it there herself.
