I may have mentioned this before, but for me, Dark Shadows audio goes back to my earliest roots with the show. I have very vague memories of a few eps during the original run.  I saw a handful of episodes in syndication in '76,77. WLVI had it on a 11:00PM, much too late for me to watch regularly.  I generally got to see it on Friday nights, when I could see it at all. My main exposure then was through the Ross novels and the comics. When I was in college, some fans copied audio tapes for me. For years I had most of the series on audio tape, all of the first year of syndication, and most of the rest of the series, but with many gaps. It was still considerably more than half of the episodes, with some time periods virtually complete. When I first got access to a VCR, it was on a limited basis. The dorm had one to share among 300 or so people. It was in the office and a staffer would put your tape in the machine, if it was not in use. Your offering would then be broadcast throughout the dorm via the antenna system.  When I did get VHS tapes, I focused on episodes that were pivotal or visually exciting. Kathy Resch also sent me her 6 hour condensation of 1795. But aside from that, it was an audio medium for me. So for me having DS without the visuals is nothing new. In fact it can be refreshing. My imagination is not hampered by effects that go wrong.

I'd love to see DS with the original commercials if there were options to watch with or without the ads.

After what Joe said, I'm beginning to think I heard it wrong at the Fest. Memory is a tricky thing.

This doesn't answer the question about how I could have heard that announcement over in an episode from late 69 or 70. I wonder if they continued it, but did not record it on the master in favor of having it go out live on the broadcast date. I'm certain I heard it at a festival, but it came from what looked like a BW kinescope instead of one of the color masters. I could be wrong, which is why I'm checking to see if anyone has similar memories. All my old audio tapes are not of any help. They don't have the end credit music.

This has puzzled me for years. As I'm sure everyone knows the DS eps used to have that announcent that DS is a DCP. It stops during early Barnabas. I was at a Fest and I'm pretty sure I heard a clip where that announcement came on after a Leviathan episode!  Does anyone remember if this was done on air during the original run? If so, why was it on the tapes for the first year or so and not later?  It's a very trivial question, but I've wondered about it for a long time.

Not only is the second audio series underway, they are hiring some quality talent. According to the Big Finish website David Warner has joined the cast. His credits are exetensive. He's best know to me from his two appearances on Star Treks V and VI. In the former, he was Chancellor Gorkon, the Klingon head of state in VI. To be honest, I'm trying to forget V. He was the Cardassian who tortured Picard in Star Trek the Next Generation-Chain of Command 1 and 2. He voiced Ra's Al Ghul in Batman the Animated Series, Jor El in Lois and Clark.  Most people probably remember him best as the henchman in Titanic. He has almost 200 credits on IMDB. He's also been in many of the Doctor Who audio adventures. I remember him best as the alternate 3rd Doctor in one of the Unbound stories. It's kind of a what if the Doctor had never been exiled to Earth after War Games. The DS universe is extremely blessed to have him as part of its mythos.   http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001831/

According to the Big Finish news section, recording it well under way for the 2nd series, Kingdom of the Dead.  Lysette Anthony and Alec Newman are joining the 4 regulars from the original DS and Andrew Collins.  Other original series cast memebers will have roles in the production as well. I can't access the forum at work, and I don't want to give the wrong information, so I'm beign a bit vague about who will guest star. They are scheduled to be released in July. You have the choice of ordering one CD a month or all four as a box set. Check the Big Finish site for more info.

Kitty was
an American who married Gerald Soames for his money. I don't think it was ever revealed for sure whether she loved him or not, but by Edward's account they were happy. I think it's probable she married for the money and either loved him or at least got along with him. My memory could be faulty.
Getting the CDs in July is all the bonus I need!  Thanks for the info! I'll be ordering later today.

What's the difference between buying the boxed set and the indiviual releases? Do boxed set purchasers get them earlier than the rest, or are they sent out after all the indivual releases have been mailed out? Are there any bonuses in the boxed set? I'm inclined to go the set option, assuming we get them all at once. The Big Finish site has a July release date for that, but I don't want to assume anything. I want to avoid misunderstandings. I've waited a long time for this series and I want to get them ASAP. Oh, another question, is the downlooad option the same for the boxed set as for the individual releases?

Forget what the critics said.  They have probably never seen the original.  I enjoyed the moive very much. I was impressed with the way they fleshed out the original story with some interesting new materail. I think the critics were exepcting an Underworld wannabe

Final Judgement is a POWERFUL story! I have to admit I thought the trial angle was a bit hokey at first, but it worked out very well. If you're a fan of both characters, you're in for a treat. This one breaks the tradition of having a major and minor reader. Both parts are roughly equal in time and focus. It was great to hear Josette come to "life" again. Ok we did get a one two word cameo on another release, but aside from that it's good to have her back after forty years or so.

Dark Shadows Final Judgement is on Big Finish's download page!!!

Current Talk '24 I / Re: hoDS/NoDS DVD Release?
« on: January 24, 2010, 03:49:37 AM »
In my opinion, the ultimate versions of HODS and NODS as of now are the DVDs I made of the Turner Classic Movies showing that were commercial free. I recorded these "Live", since I think there's a slight improvement when you record as it's showing versus copying from the DVR. I'm not sure if that's true, but I think I notice a slight difference. I recorded both on separate discs at 2 hour speed. Now I have not seen any of the online offerings, so it's possible there's an improvement. I am in no rush to see these films on DVD as I think that if they were slated for release now, the powers that be would not restore NODS. I think time is on our side. When this Depp film is made, and I believe Depp is too dedicated to the idea to drop it, I believe that we have a decent shot at getting a restored version. That's just my take, but hey I thought Cindi Lauper would be massive and Madonna was a flash in the pan, and I thought Buffy would flop and DS 91 would last for years, so what do I know?

aren't jenny,laura,beth,angelique and amanda all quentin's concubines?

I don't think you can count Angelique. Angelique pursued Quentin and made the deal to force him to marry her. As far as I remember they weren't romanitically linked as far as he was concerned.
