Messages - The Doctor and K9

I was initially interested in these reprints, but I assumed they would be omnibus editions of 5 or so books with extras. I thought it would be similar to the Gold Key collections and probably prices at about $30-$40, for a cost of about $8 per reprinted book $14.99 for EACH novel is quite high and I don't plan to buy them.

I would like to have hard copies of these novels so I can retire my originals, so they won't fall apart, but this is extremely expensive.

I remember the model kits of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman and The Mummy.  Did Aurora make those model kits as well?

And, in addition to King Kong and Godzilla, there were model kits for such super heroes as Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, The Hulk, etc.

Weren’t there model kits for Quentin and Angelique as well?
I had a General Ursus model from Planet of the Apes. I know there was a DS werewolf. I think it had modern clothes, but I'm not sure. I don't recall Quentin or Angelique kits.
I also had a Lost in Space Robot kit. The first major purchase I ever made. It took me several weeks to save up for it. Then I got to the store and my mother asked about glue. The world fell out from under me, but she agreed to pay for it. Thank God.

I believe that JF and LP performance of “The Bells” was recorded at the DS Festval in NYC in 1988.  It was the last event on Sunday afternoon if I can recall correctly after 31 years.

I'm not sure of the date, but that sounds about right. You are definitely correct about the reading being the last event.  It was quite a climax.

Marvelous, Doctor and K9. Thank you!

My personal favorite item on your Archive pages is the incredible recording of Jonathan and Lara performing Poe's poem "The Bells" at some DS fan event. Probably tied for that are the early 1980s Shadowcon panels, especially the technical panel and another one that Ron Sproat participated in. The people on the panels actually still remembered specifics of what doing the show was like. It's such a service to fandom that you have made this material available.

Sincerely, Gothick
Thank you for the kind words, Gothick! My personal favorite is the "Genesis of Evil" reading. In it, Frid reads from DS fan fiction and script excerpts from the show. It was great to hear him revisit Barnabas years before the Big Finish production "Night Whispers."

One of the surprises for the Tarrytown event has been revealed. Since it has been already been posted on Facebook, I don't think that it warrants a spoiler notice.
Attendees will get to hear the abbreviated version of The Legendary of Sleepy Hollow that Jonathan Frid recorded for MCI in 1991. Back then, you could call in on an 800 number and listen toll free. This has not been available since then and will be accompanied by a video montage.
I'm going to preface this with a hope that it doesn't come off like I'm bragging. I suppose I am a little though. I've had this for years on an audio tape and posted it to my archive pages some time ago. It's been available for free download to all interested parties since then. The quality is very rough, and I'd love to upgrade it. I'm pasting a link to it and another to the page itself. I've posted this before, but hopefully someone might find something interesting on it. I had MCI back in the day, and my answering machine allowed me to record calls. I made several attempts, but this was the best I could do.

I guess it depends on how much the producers/writers stick with the canon. Angelique had cured Barnabas in 1971 (1841).  Back then, he would've been in his forties.  If his character is still alive, he'd be close to 100. What would there be for him to do, other than living in Shady Pines?

Again, call me a pessimist.
I have an out, but I doubt they'd ever use it. You could argue that Barnabas was under Angelique's curse and cured in 1840, but when he returns he reverts because Jeb's curse takes over. It would take a great deal of exposition and almost certainly confuse the audience. I can't take credit for this explanation. A friend speculated on this idea.

I've tried, several times, to get through SP several times (it's all on-line).  I tried my best.  Never made it.  I'm grumpy today.

It took me several times to get through that second arc. I'd be watching and something would interrupt the flow. One time it was our annual summer vacation to RI. I vowed to finish when I got back, but never did. FINALLY earlier this year, I finished the last two stories. Not realizing it was the 50th anniversary year, I decided to skip the first arc, my favorite and plow right into the second and through the third. It ended in June. I'm watching the first 65 episodes between now and the end of the year and I'll read the 2nd and 3rd novel.

I did not like the ending and the places they took the characters. I doubt I'll ever watch the entire series again.

It's a pretty good job, but the guy can't spring for shoes or boots? They must be reasonably easy to come by.

I watched Strange Paradise on WNEW from NYC. I believe it aired at the dinner hour here as well.
I wasn't allowed to watch it, since I was only 6. It aired on WTEV 6 New Bedford/Providence. I lived in Newport RI. I was amused to see the ads reproduced on the Strange Paradise website were from my region. It aired at 7:00 PM, right after Star Trek. As I said, the serial was forbidden fruit, but I'd steal occasional glimpses when I'd "forget" to turn the TV off. I was finally told that I would not be allowed to watch Star Trek if I continued to procrastinate. My most vivid memories were of Jean Paul speaking to the portrait. I remember Raxl referring to Jaques as "the devil." I took this literally and thought he was actually Satan. It was pretty terrifying for a kid in first grade.

I wrote this remembrance of my initial 1969 viewing of SP for my friend Curt's blog:

Best, G.
This is a great piece! I'm planning to start rewatching the first arc tomorrow and reread the last two books to celebrate the 50th anniversary.  I watched the show not too long ago, so I'm not ready to see the whole thing again. Despite being very slow at times, I really enjoy the first 65 episodes, and I just came across a good deal on the 2nd and 3rd books.

For some people it's not really about the money. If they REALLY want something, and if they have the amount of disposable income to afford it, they'll buy it whether what they're buying is worth the price or not. Possessing it is what gives them the pleasure and the money is simply a means to that end.

If my wife and I made, say triple what were bring in now. I'd probably buy an unopened Barnabas Collins game to have as a kind of museum piece. I understand the desire to own something like that, and cost is relative.

My friend posted a photo of himself holding a CD of the Barnabas Collins recording. I do not know if he got hold of a pre-release, or if the discs are coming out in advance of the online drop.
Mine was delivered by Amazon on Wednesday, August 14.

I attended my one and only festival/convention in 2008 in Brooklyn.

Gerard
Were there two conventions in 2008? I attended one in LA that year.

I remember the good old days (and yes I'm aware how old that makes me seem) when having two festivals a year was the norm.

THANK YOU! I heard about this and sent information to one of my best friends in Louisville. He went to see it and was impressed with it. I hoped video would surface eventually.
