I'm just disappointed that the music is apparently going to be different, according to the Amazon listing.

Thayer has a supporting role that is not large, but it is significant with several fine scenes.  It's also an U.N.C.L.E. reunion with Vaughn and Powers (Napolean and April-The Girl from U.N.C.L.E.).

What about the Oscar Collins mentioned in the letter from Quentin to Jamison that Barnabas and Julia found in 1968?  We never saw him...
Oscar was the original name chosen for Edward, just as Molly was the original name for Amy.

In 1795, Natalie refers to her late sister-in-law (Andre's wife and Josette's mother) Marie DuPres!
If you count the extended canon, she does finally appear in the Big Finish Production "The Chrimson Pearl", played by KLS.

Let's remember that acting on DS was  arduous, a new script daily, and little prep time. I saw her in a movie, Eating?  She was fantastic!

Mine was Fleetwood Mac's songstress Stevie Nicks!  My heart still skips a beat when I see her!

2)  Joan Bennet said to Victoria upon her arrival, "Welcome to Collinwood...."

Both sound like Hollywood to me.

Regarding no re-takes:  What was the famous scene that Frid messed up and fought to have it re-done?

Episode one, if you look at the slate reads TAKE 2 or TAKE 3, I'm not sure which. They must have done it again. They obviously were intent on making a good first impression. Perhaps Bennett said it in the early take.

As for reshooting, from what I remember of comments about that, they would reshoot if the set fell down. I take that to mean, if the problem destroyed the entire episode. Later, as editing became easier, I think the actors implied that there was a tad more  leeway. I know one person said that Bennett and Frid could get away with an occasional expletive forcing a retake.

As for the original question, I think I recall someone, I want to say Costello saying something to the effect of we were behind almost to the point of having to do a show live but it never came to that. This was at a festival and I think he made mention of taping 2 days ahead of time and having to shoot on some weekends to regain a backlog. That festival was in the 80s and I could be totally off.

As long as we get more Big Finish CDs, comics, novels, and a restored Night of Dark Shadows, the success of the Depp film is just a bonus. If it flops, well, I'm sure the original will continue to have it's relatively small but vocal following.

Take Doctor Who, a show and fandom that meant a lot to me for years.   The new series, which keeps shifting more and more away from everything I liked classic DW for, now defines what DW is to people.  The classic 1963-1989 show is just something in the misty dawn of pre-history which led up to new DW.   Staying true to the old show isn't a priority.   All this distorts fandoms.
I think the spirit of the original show is alive and well at Big Finish. They've been putting out classic Doctor Who since the '90s. In fact, their output of audio dramas alone has exceeded the running time of the original show which produced almost 700 episodes!

I tend to doubt that there is more rehearsal footage out there. MPI and DCP are aware of the enormous selling potential of anything connected with this show. I'm feel confident that they would have put any available stuff on the Bloopers and Treasures or some other release. I am hoping very hard that I am incorrect and that more will surface later. We are fortunate with DS. We have the entire series available and are wishing for technical "backstage" stuff. GH or AMC fans would kill for a 5 year run of their show from the very beginning.

A thought just occurred to me.  Episode 191, the climax of the '67 Laura story had some audio only footage of Lela Swift directing the cast. This was at the end of the episode on the tape that was shown at one of the early Festivals. It ran for a few minutes and a friend had an audio tape of it. I don't know if I ever got him to send it to me.  We heard it again on his cassette recorder at the airport. There might very well be more of this type of stuff. The audio was followed by another version of the climax scene. MPI might be unaware that we would be interested in this type of thing.

If he does 5 a week, 52 weeks a year, it will take about 4 years and 9 months to finish!

Rated GP!

I love those old ratings! "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" featured some fairly explicit violence and language. A character is shown being shot in the head, another shot repeatedly. A bloody  hand jams down a button that blows up the world. What was it rated? G!  Times have changed.
