Wow Wow Wow!  This one is awesome, though it takes awhile for them to get organized for the performance.

Jonathan and Lara reciting Poe's magnificently strange poem,"The Bells," at some DS event:

Doctor and K-9, is this from one of your recordings?
Yes. I made audio recordings of many of the events in the 80s. I believe The Bells performance was one in which there was a prohibition regarding video taping. There was no mention of audio, so I recorded it. I have the entire performance and plan to post it later. I have several  that I will be posting, including Genesis of Evil which was his first one man show. Frid reads DS fan fiction along with the usual readings from literature.

I also posted a message Dan Ross recorded for the 1st DS Festival about the novels he wrote as Marilyn Ross.

The Manhattan Shadows Technical Panel should be up momentarily. The quality on that one is better because the participants were using their mikes more consistently.

I posted another audio. This one is from Manhattan Shadows 1, which was held the Saturday before the 1st Newark Festival. This star panel has Joel Crothers and Addison Powell joining Jonathan Frid who was pretty much the emcee of that convention. The quality is horrible. You'll find better quality video excerpts on YouTube, but I believe this is the only recording of the entire panel. Later I'll post the tech panel from that same event.

There's actually one point where a fan asks about the abandoned Betty Hanscombe storyline and Ron just says the story was changed. Remarkable given that in 1983, nobody had seen those episodes since 1966.
If memory serves that fan was Geoffrey Hammel who co-wrote a one-shot fanzine about the Pre-Barnabas era. It was not nearly as detailed as the concordances, but it was edited and produced by Kathy Resch. Geoff later edited a fanzine called The Eagle Hill Sentinel that ran about 6 issues.

I recorded the Ron Sproat session and just uploaded it to an online archive. I don't recall what Ron has to say about the creation of Barnabas. I've not listened to it in a long time, but you can download it at the link below.

I was not impressed with Dacre Stoker's "sequel" to Dracula. Great nephew or not, he chose to interpret the character in the modern manner of portraying him as a romantic hero, the misunderstood vampire. This is a clear departure from the original novel. I don't think I'll be reading his prequel any time soon. I bought the first book when it came out. I might pick this one up second hand, if it's cheap.

The forum has a lot of Charmed fans, so I decided to share this:

Charmed Reboot Gets CW Pilot Order — What Changed From Last Year's Pitch?

Though apparently not everyone is happy:

Holly Marie Combs Slams Charmed Reboot: 'Don't Even Think of Capitalizing on Our Hard Work'

It's interesting that all the original DS cast vocally supported the '91 Series ....but the original Charmed cast has been against any sort of reboot since the get go.  [snow_wink]
I think in the case of DS, the support came because the cast realized that almost 20 years had passed since DS ended. Many of the key actors were either too old or dead and would not be likely to be at the center of a new DS. In the case of Charmed, the actresses are relatively young and probably feel like a Charmed II or Charmed-The Next Generation with them playing key roles would be the way to go. I believe we could all be happy if Charmed TOS was reborn on something like Netflix as a limited series AND the new show got greenlighted. I don't know why it has to be an either/or proposition. It's probably because of rights, but I think that contracts could be written to allow for both.

For those interested in the Paperback Library series, here are some links.

The Dark Shadows Book of Vampires and Werewolves, and Jonathan Frid-A Personal Picture Album can be found here http://www.luminist.org/archives/     Scroll down to author Jonathan Frid. I know he didn't have anything to do with the anthology, but that's where they put it.

You can also find 23 Ross novels and HODS here. This collection includes Barnabas, Quentin, and the Vampire Beauty which is often found offered at absurdly high prices on eBay and other places. The mobi (kindle) links don't work, but the PDF and TXT files do. I pasted the text from the TXT files into Word. The PDFs are image scans of the actual pages.

They also list several of the Marilyn Ross titles, including one not available on archive.org.

Current Talk '18 / DS in ME TV Poll

ME TV has a poll about what you would watch if it were 1968. DS is on it.

I may have posted about this show before--if so, I apologize for the repetition.
Best, G.
If you did post before, I missed it, so I'm glad you did.

I found digital copies of 23 Ross novels and HODS. The PDF files are fairly large, about 14 MG apiece and are made up of jpg or similar picture files compiled into PDF form.

There are also text files that are much smaller. The formatting is frustrating to read in the original form, but I found that you can copy and paste the text into WORD and it becomes a fairly easy read. These smaller files are searchable whereas the PDFs are not. It's like looking at photographs of the pages.

The books available are 1-19 (Dark Shadows to Barnabas, Quentin, and the Crystal Coffin), 23 (Scorpio Curse), 26 (Body Snatchers), 27 (Jekyll's Son), and 32 (Vampire Beauty).  The last one might be most useful to some. I've met many people who have most of the collection but are lacking the last one to three or so. They can be very costly, because the print runs decreased. I'm pasting the link below.

The mobi (kindle) links are not working. I don't know about the others.  I only tried the text, PDF and mobi formats.

I just watched this on DVD yesterday with my family. It's a classic in our family. The cast is first rate and it's hilarious.

I purchased a copy back in '04 at the only festival I attended just to have it.  While the artwork is superb, the stories and plots - to me - fell flat.

This is intended to be a more lavish publication with larger panels and the Sunday strips are supposed to be in color.I qualified my terms in the last sentence because this project keeps getting delayed. I'm by no means certain we'll ever see it published.
