Current Talk '06 II / Re: Goodbye to DS on Broadcast TV in 2009?

That goes without saying, Buzz.

But analog antennna reception is beyond atrocious, and a joke, frankly.

The point is, if you actually love television, and seriously watch it, then I highly doubt you're watching it with rabbit ears.

If you don't care about television, at least enough to pay for even basic cable, to get any kind of tolerable picture, or are using your TV solely as a monitor to watch your VHS tapes and DVDs, then I doubt it'd cause you that much distress if the over the air reception just snapped off 3 years from now.
---Umm, unless like me, you live in an apartment where the landlord REFUSES to allow either cable or DISHtv--I'm stuck with rabbit ears, hate it, but we are not the only ones in this situation. There are more landlords than just ours who feel this way--it sucks, but it is reality.

Maggie: Does this dress make me look fat?

Barn (thinking): I've lived more than 200 years and there is still no good answer to that question.

ROTFL! Perfect! [clap]

My vote goes to Julia & Barnabas for unrequited love-and to Bramwell & Katherine for true lovers

I switched to Firefox some time ago after being a lonnng time IE user. And I have to wonder why it took so long to catch on! Firefox is wonderful! It is simple to use, does lots of cool things, and I LOVE their e-mail system. Bill Gates is Dead--long live Firefox! I'll NEVER go back... [clap] [9050]

Current Talk '06 II / Re: Jump cuts in Episode 432
« on: November 14, 2006, 01:30:56 AM »
Picture a wide shot with a person standing on one side of the screen. Then that person walks to the other side of the screen.  Now imagine someone cutting out the bit of tape where the person walks, and splicing the footage from either side of that shot back together.  What is left is a "jump cut"- ... - an edit where the camera does not move, but some action has been removed. Now the person simply "pops" from one side of the screen to the other. You see it in bad edits, but sometimes it is done for intentional effect, or for visual impact (like in a Godard film)  In this instance I mentioned earlier, it seems to be covering an error in filming, thoug I don't know what.

Great explanation! Thank you! [knockwood]

Thanks to horror-host Svengoolie of Chicago, I now know what jump-cuts are.    I'm reminded of another with Mrs Johnson, when we last see her in 1995... she obviously couldn't keep still for that long, so more than one edit.

...And jump cuts are.....? (Curious minds want to know!) [huhb]
