akhet, if the pic is stored on geocities, tripod, or any of the other sites (angelfire?) that don't allow their images to display on sites that aren't theirs, then that's probably the reason it didn't show up in your profile.  Unfortunately, the same goes for images you might try to place in a message here or on any board that also isn't theirs.

But though dsboards can't EMAIL aol addresses, images stored on their pages do show up here.  Go figure.

Stuart, that's SO nice of you!

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Word list
« on: March 05, 2002, 09:29:41 PM »
Some posters have been hesitant about typing certain words :-X, which isn't surprising considering the un-generous censored word lists we've endured in the past.  But on these forums (as on eboards), administrators have complete control over the word filter :), so the result is a minimal list that I don't think would be considered unreasonable.  So please don't be timid with your language-- if you happen to type one of the words on the [short] list, it'll be automatically edited in your message by either having a syllable trimmed or 2 or more letters starred out.

To demonstrate: (We're not on VantageNet anymore, Toto.)

Hitchock directed Dick Van Dyke in a movie about a classy rottweiler bitch. ;)

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / OT: Yahoo glitch trips up e-mail
« on: March 05, 2002, 07:58:25 AM »
A large number of DS lists reside on yahoo, and CNET news.com has provided the following explanation for the lack of email from them today:

(Pacific, not parallel)

Members of Yahoo's free e-mail list service are without a clubhouse.

Yahoo Groups, a collection of discussion lists based on various interests, has been inaccessible from the online portal's Web site since Monday morning, Yahoo spokeswoman Mary Osako confirmed. The outage, noted in a message on the Yahoo Groups home page, has prevented millions of members from receiving e-mail from their cohorts.

Osako would not discuss details of the problem, but she said it is hardware-related.

Can you think of any other possible "cat spell" victims of Angelique?

Bob the B, you're too much!

I'll give it a shot--

Both Vicki and Hello Kitty have that hair bow-coordinating-with-outift thing going on.

Willie could be turned into Riff Raff the criminal from Underdog.

Like Klondike Kat, Sheriff Patterson tenaciously pursues his mouse, er, man.

Shirley the Collinsport Inn waitress never got any lines, and neither did Shirley Feeney's Boo Boo Kitty...

Current Talk '02 I / Re: Questions for Thom & Rainey

Welcome to the board, Thom!  I'm thrilled that you're enjoying yourself.

I think Alex has stayed away from conventions and the like because she was afraid of fan reaction but from what I understand when she appeared the Museum of TV & Radio ceremony last year she got the biggest applause of anyone.

I do realize that you were just speculating here, but I wanted to add that I don't believe Alexandra has ever publicly stated why she hadn't attended any DS events before her appearance at the DS tribute.  Your post is fine, Thom, but my concern is that fans reading these boards may mistake the opinions expressed here to be facts, especially when they have to do with an actor's private life, and that's why I feel we have to be careful when making guesses or speculating about their personal motives.

And yes, the response she got from the audience was tremendous.  It was very touching.

Is it my imagination, perhaps an aberation, that you are on a crusade against the character Angelique (or the actress that plays the part) for some reason? I can't say a word in reference with out you jumping all over me.

Everyone is encouraged to express their opinions about the characters on the show, and if you put an opinion out there then it becomes subject to debate; that's the nature of a discussion forum.  But VAM, I'm asking you to please refrain from making direct references to the posters for their opinions.  It's not my intention at all to upset you or silence you and I certainly don't want to drive you away, but I'm thinking that maybe you're not aware of how you're coming across, yet your comments lately often sound to me like personal attacks.  So PLEASE, I'm only asking you to stop making the disagreements personal.

the above addy is for the general listing of recent daily robservations, done by Our Hero.  go there and pick the dates for whatever shows ya missed, and read the detailed acccount of that days eps.

Oh wow, I just noticed that it's very close to the 100th board-- just a few posts away if you guys are still starting new boards after 100 posts.  The SciFi boards and Tim's FAQ site were my DS haunts when I first went online, but back then there were only a few more than 10 SciFi boards.  Where has the time gone?!

i've read the stuff but I don't seem to understand how to use the font commands, bold, italic.  .I figured out glow but that's it.

No problem!  You can discover what each square does by passing your cursor over it and reading the bottom of your screen.  B bolds, I italicizes, U underlines, S strikes a line through words, etc., and they affect only the text you put between them. To demonstrate making something bold, I'll click on the B, get 2 tags, insert your name with no spaces between them, and the result is Julia99.
The image tags are the 4th box in the 2nd row; put the url of an image between them to get the image to show up in your message.

To change the font size, click on the black A and put your text between the tags.  You can change the size number to get these:

This is size 2.
This is size 3.
This is size 4.
This is size 5.
This is size 6.
etc.

This is the plain ol' Verdana font.

You can use more than one kind of tag for the same text, so don't forget to test out the colors at the same time; just make sure that each tag you use has a corresponding tag on the opposite end of your text.  So are you ready now to experiment?  Registered members can use the "preview" and "modify" features as many times as they want while playing.

I also posted that GMT thing in the wrong place. . so sorry. . [blshg]

No need to apologize!  I've been wanting to test out the administrative "move" feature.  It only took a couple of clicks... that was fun!  (I'm easily entertained :D )

I tried to put a smiley in this. I did a click and
drag but it would not work. How do I put them in
a message?

Just click on them and they'll automatically appear (once per click), though they generally show up at the END of whatever you've typed so far, so if you what you're doing is going back to insert them inside your message such as the middle of it, you're usually better off just typing the code for them yourself where you want them.  When you click on them and get them to appear at the end, you'll be able to see their code.

Second, how do I mark a item as having been read?

You can't mark each post, but what registered members can do is take advantage of the "mark topics as read" button to clear the system, then when a new post appears, the grey buttons before each forum title on the home page will turn blue to indicate that there's something you haven't read on that board.  If you're finished reading what interests you but decide there's something there that you're not  interested in reading (perish the thought, hee hee!!) just click the "mark topics as read" button again and it'll be as if you read it.  There's a sampling of what the blue and grey buttons look like underneath the last board on the main page.

Each time a thread gets another message added to it, it jumps to the top of the board.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / For Caro!!!
« on: March 02, 2002, 09:25:33 PM »
Carol,

I'm also seeing you registered under a yahoo addy as "Carol" in addition to the Road Runner address as "carolinamoon".  If you haven't received a password via the yahoo address, which you should have, we can email one to you that you can later change.  However, that password will only work for the user name Carol.  If you want carolinamoon registered, you'll need to start over with registering it (the carolinamoon registration is now deleted, so the name is once again available, and I can always delete the registration for the user name Carol afterwards).  Why don't you email me via Midnite@dsboards.com and I'm sure we can easily straighten it out.  Thanks!

« on: March 02, 2002, 09:10:24 PM »
Hi Carol,

This is the problem:  You're registered with a Road Runner addy, and RR is owned by Time Warner, which is owned by....  AOL!  We've been unable to get email from dsboards to members whose mailboxes come through AOL servers.

I'm deleting your prior registration now, and this is the reason you haven't been able to reregister prior to my doing that-- the name is already registered.  But it will be available on your next attempt, though I must ask you to use another address to register that's not Road Runner or AOL**.  There's a link to hotmail in the "Registration" section of the Help files if that's the way you want to go.

We're really sorry about this inconvenience and I promise that we're very anxious to get you registered!  Please let me or MB know if you run into any more problems.

**or Netscape.com, also owned by AOL, and we're still waiting to hear if our registrants with Compuserve have been able to receive their passwords too.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / A test of the "Spoiler" icon
« on: March 01, 2002, 08:07:53 PM »
Isn't this cool?!  MB got the idea to create a flashing icon that alerts readers that there's a spoiler in the message.

You can still type spoiler into the title and/or message, but this is something extra.  To add it, go to  the "Message icon" listing that's below the subject space and click on "Spoiler warning".
