Eleanor_Rigby, I answered your questions on the Testing. 1, 2, 3... board as a topic called "YaBB codes to bold, italicize, and add color".  You can access that posting board via the forum home page.

A belated welcome to cocoa! :D

I'm looking at the preview and I see the html language showing up.  How do you make it go away so that you have bold, italics, the change of color?

It's actually a special YaBB code, though similar to HTML.  And like html you have to use them precisely to get them to do their job yet not show up in your posted message.

To get this--
blah blah
Type this--
Code: [Select]
blah blah
(Ignore the word "code"; you type only what's within the box.)

To get this--
blah blah
Type this--
Code: [Select]
blah blah
To get this:
blah blah
Type this--
Code: [Select]
blah blah
There must be a corresponding tag at each end of the text (the text is always between the tags; no spacing is necessary) and the one containing the slash is always the second tag in the pair (in other words, it follows the text).  Please feel free to experiment on the testing board as much as you'd like.  Good luck!

Me again.  Welcome to our newest registered members!  One more would make an even 100.  Anybody?

Hi all,

You've probably seen MB's article about the benefits of becoming a registered member, and I want to take this opportunity to invite anyone that's interested in registering to come on board.  We apologize to any AOL members that were inconvenienced when asked to reregister with another email server, including the users with netscape.com, cs.com, and Road Runner.  There's still no patch currently available through YaBB that allows AOL members to receive email from dsboards.com, and therefore you won't be able to receive your password if you register using AOL.

BTW, it's worth mentioning that ANYTIME you change the email address in your standing registration, a new password is sent to you.  Therefore, you can't use AOL addresses even after you've registered cuz, again, you're not going to receive your password at your AOL address, and without the new password you won't have access to your profile to change it back without help from the forum administrators.  And... if anyone hasn't received their password, please email either MysteriousB@dsboards.com or Midnite@dsboards.com .  You can change your password to one you prefer after you've logged in for the first time, and during registration you can opt to have your email addy hidden from other readers.

I still haven't gotten to the purpose of this message, sorry:  In the event that what's keeping you from registering is that you've been unable to come up with a username, I thought I'd list the DS-related screen names that have been chosen already in order to illustrate that there are many more as yet untaken, and if that doesn't help then I'd be happy to suggest DS names for anyone that would like to email me.  To date, these are the DS-related usernames that are NOT available:

Barnster
Ben (hey, it's a DS name, hee hee!!)
Bob_the_Bartender
Gerard
Julia99
Josette
Joshua_Collins (JC, if you see this, PLEASE email me!  I've made several attempts to reach you...)
Latisha
mrjuggins
MrsJ
Nathan
Nicky
Paul
petofi
ProfStokes
Quentin
SonofBarnabas
The name Angelique is reserved for someone already in the process of registering.

There are several other registered usernames that are too numerous to list, but the board will indicate if you're attempting to register with a name that has already been taken.  But if there's a username you decide that you want to use to post, there's no guarantee that it'll be available on your next visit unless you register it.

Okay, I'll shut up now... Hope to see you on the board!

I don't know, do you use spoilers??!?

Eleanor_Rigby, thanks for reregistering, and I'm glad you got your registration squared away so quickly.  And again, welcome!  To answer your question about spoilers, there's no rule against them but it's much appreciated by our readers that are watching the series for the first time or have forgotten plots that writers indicate that spoilage is coming up (as you did in your message).  There's also a spoiler icon in the "Message icon" menu that's there for you to use, if you wish, when you're posting.  I like to do both to make sure the newbies see it.

Yay, Raineypark!

And please don't worry-- MB and I have been with these boards since they started 3 1/2 years (and 2 servers) ago and neither of us is going to bail now.

also i have a question about time travel are there two pasts one that Vicki wasn't part of and one she was
and is is that why Barnabas didn't recognize her when he firt was released or is there only one past the changed one?

I believe that Vicki wasn't in the original past, which makes it fun to speculate if Angelique made Phyllis Wick her patsy the first time around.

Yes, we both posted about the montage at the same time, so I removed mine and replied under yours instead.

ROFL!!!  I just saw it too.

MB's special "flourish" is temporary, so anyone reading this thread on Sunday will have no idea what we're talking about.

Raineypark, call me an idiot-- I completely forgot that I can demonstrate YaBB codes so that you can see exactly how they're done.  So I might as well take advantage of it by showing you how to quote another poster's text so that it appears in the shaded box.  Instead of the quotation marks, this is what you'd type:

Code: [Select]
their words
You can get those same tags to show up for you by clicking on the 2nd to the last light colored box.  Just make sure to insert the text you're quoting between them.

Have fun!

Hi,

Changing the board so that you can post new topics is next on MB's agenda, I promise!  We were just discussing that in IM this evening.

Number one - other than Spoiler - what do any of the other items mean.  Number two - if one wants to do that, mark a spoiler for instance, how is it done? ?!?

The poster that starts a thread can choose a message icon to illustrate the content of their message, and they're available for responses too.  Just click anywhere on the bar that follows "Message icon" to open the drop down menu.  The default is the one you described, which indicates a regular article or message.  Clicking on each one makes it display next to the menu, and whichever is displaying when you submit your message is the one that'll show up in the list of topics.  A registered poster should (I think) be able to modify their choice afterwards.

Thumb up or thumb down can show the poster's approval or disapproval of the topic.  The exclamation point is for emphasis, the lamp indicates an idea/suggestion or realization, and I changed the message icon that was next to your message to a question mark since... you get the idea.  The rest are smileys.

Some of the still shots shown daily are priceless, (good job midnite if this is your photographers handiwork).

MysteriousB has the software that makes the captures and afterwards goes through them to choose the ones that will make into the montage, and then it's put together.  I can't take any credit for them, and I agree that the selections are always the best.

First I made your day, and now I'm going to unmake it.

I've gone round and round with the tags, but I can't get it to work.

It's probably something really simple that you're not realizing you're doing.  (Which is probably true about a lot of things in our lives, hee hee!!)

Quote
I get the effect I'm looking for, but when I preview it, I get the "code" on either side, along with the effect!

I've tried leaving spaces, not leaving spaces and I can't remember what other possibilites, but I still come up with the 'code' in the message.

I can duplicate what you're describing if the / is in the 1st tag; it has to be in the 2nd (only).  YaBB code, like HTML or even URLs, has to be exact or it won't work.

Quote
Oh, and the color change is defeating me too.
Sorry....I'm not the quick study I thought I was.

Oh no, and it's no problem to explain it!  Open the drop down menu under Black and click on "Navy".  I'm going to leave out the pairs of [ and ] for the sake of explanation cuz otherwise they won't show up in my post, so that leaves you with color=Navy and /color.  Type something between them (Quentin is a hottie or whatever!) without adding any additional spaces and with the pairs of [ and ] in place.  If it doesn't work this time, I'll be happy to take a look at it if you leave it on the board, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if you're mastering YaBB code very soon!
