« on: June 21, 2002, 09:04:09 AM »
Hi tripwire!

A spoiler is a revelation of a plot or key event that's yet to come, and a spoiler warning informs readers that one is coming up so they can decide for themselves if they want to continue reading.

They're not mandatory here since the series has been around for many years and has aired in syndication in addition to being on videotape, but since the show continues to bring in new viewers and established fans may have forgotten what they've already seen, spoiler warnings are added so as to not lessen anyone's enjoyment and not make them afraid to read the boards.

In addition to adding the word SPOILER, there's also a spoiler icon in the Message icon menu.  It's the flashing S you see at the top of this post.

Sorry to have to say this, but I know people that won't come near the DS boards because of things like this.

No need to apologize for saying that.  I'm not sure I understand what you're referring to, but if you're willing to email me off the boards I'd like to hear your thoughts about it.

Quote
Yes, Luciaphil's comment did bother me. I certainly can't say I like it. I believe in being polite and courteous.

Politeness and courtesy (netiquette) are expected from everyone, as the 1st forum guideline states.

Quote
Even if I didn't like someone, and I knew there is someone here who adores the person and has great enthusiasm for them, I would not say such a thing. Nobody wants to read trash about their favorite character/actor.

It's great that you hold back so as to not hurt someone else's feelings, but the philosophy of these forums has never been that someone can't express a negative opinion about a character or storyline (or whatever the DS topic) simply because it's a favorite of someone else's.

Quote
There are opinions and there is also courtesy. I draw the line between the two.

All opinions are welcome here as long as they're within the forum guidelines.

Quote
My enthusiasm, love, etc. for Noah Gifford/Harry Johnson (Craig Slocum) will never be dampered by anyone. That isn't what I meant  when I said, "Your bad comments about my favorite character and my enthusiasm don't go together". It was a polite way of saying to Luciaphil, I don't think friendship is in our realm here under these circumstances.

Okay.  Thanks for explaining.

I won't waste my time trying to refresh your memory, Luciaphil. You'll see it when it comes on. Your bad comments about my favorite character and my enthusiasm for him don't go together.

CS, I have to confess that I don't recall any specific incidents of his breaking and entering either but then again there are a lot of scenes that I need to see again in order to refresh my memory.  :)

But regarding what just happened, I'm sorry her comment bothered you but I wish (easier said than done, I know!) there was some way you could not feel hurt if someone says something negative about your favorite actor.  My feeling is that in our discussions, we should be able to openly express our dislike for certain characters, actors, or performances to the same extent that others may want to express their ardor for the same things, and I honestly don't think that by expressing her lack of enthusiasm for Harry, Luciaphil set out to damper yours.  Am I making sense?, cuz I was only interrupted about 10 times since I started writing this reply. ;)

It's not a matter of receiving an approval, Kitty_Cat60-- you're in as soon as your complete registration is submitted.  Then you're emailed a password by the board that you use to log in and that'll get you access to the username and your profile.

The most recent registration was on June 15.  I don't know what the problem has been with your registration but I'm sure MB will be able to figure it out.

Oh no way!!!

I'm not sure about your previous efforts, but your latest attempt to register on the 17th didn't go through.  After you fill out the username and email address spaces and decide if you want the addy hidden or not, are you selecting "I Agree" (assuming you agree to the board guidelines) and then clicking "Register" at the bottom of the registration page?

Bob recently pointed out to me that it's my 6th Fest.  Hard to believe!

Regarding meeting up with each other, do please check the bulletin board near the Festival registration/information area.  PatrickM from the SciFi boards will be posting a notice sometime on Friday with info on where and when the meeting will be on Saturday.  Pat (Prez of the Florida fan group) has generously invited dsboards users to join them.  He'll either be reserving one of the rooms that Jim Pierson usually sets aside for fan events, or he'll find some other appropriate place (the bar?  hee hee!!).

BTW, I understand there's a piano in the convention area that guests are allowed to use.  Ah, Gerard, if only you were coming out so we could be treated to that duet with Ben we were once promised, <sigh>.

I think there's a very good reason why Dan Curtis and the writers NEVER got God involved in their story lines.  It's treading dangerous waters.

I agree.  Though DS often made allusions to Christian faith, I can't recall that they were ever so overt as with the symbolism and dialogue of Trask's exorcism.  I never understood, though, why Trask is suddenly a powerful witch hunter in death.  (I'm ignoring the lame excuse that he got the jump on Cassandra because of her love for Barnabas.)  Trask had NO power whatsoever, divine or otherwise, when he was alive, so is this simply the power of a crazed ghost?

LOL, I have to thank you both for your attempts to work DS into the Mets/Red Sox/et al discussion.  But it seems to have turned into a lengthy off-topic discussion so can it please be taken off the board?  And I swear this has absolutely nothing to do with my being a staunch Dodger fan; condolences can be sent to Midnite@dsboards.com [wink2].

Hi Richard!

First off, I hope you don't mind that I moved the post here.

The feature does work, but some email servers don't allow mail that's generated by the board to get through to users, and that's how the response notifications are sent.  I'd have to check to be certain, but I think you're the only member that's currently registered using prodigy.net, so I don't have any other reference as to whether Prodigy is one of those email servers except that I recall you didn't receive your password when you registered.

MB may have more to add, but you might want to consider checking with Prodigy about the problem.

Adra,

If you like having your story on the DS Creative Board, you'll need to first register with SciFi if you haven't already and then can post your next 4 chaps by going to http://bboard.scifi.com/bboard/browse.cgi/1/1/1645?pnum=109 and clicking on Post Article for: Dark Shadows Creative Board #25.  Good luck to you!
