Okay, I am totally confused.  Where are these applaud and smite buttons?
Hi John,

I gave instructions on page 1 to read Joseph Fung's explanation of the karma feature.  He wrote the mod, so I'm sure I couldn't explain it better.

i give this whole karma thing a way thumbs down.  one, i totally hate popularity contests.  and two, what are we doin', playing dugeons and dragons or something?  i'm sure now my character will be able to buy things cheaper at the marketplace.  oh boy!  if only that were so in real life. :)

The karma feature has been very popular on many sites.  It's all in good fun and was never intended to be taken too seriously.  You're not the first person to express hesitation about it (though your comments are certainly the most colorful ;)), but at this time we're not offering any opt out to members and we only ask that you give it a chance.

would someone go in and please change jounior to junior.  i'm not very picky about spelling normally since i'm such a rocket scientist at it but i just don't want someone to think i did it!  lol.....  victoria is amused....   ;D

MB took care of it.  Because YaBB SE is provided in many languages, this was just one of many words that showed up with a foreign spelling.

I'm afraid I have absolutely NO idea to what you are referring!  What possible connection can there be between our heroic Mysterious Benefactor and that odoriferous little rodent?

Have you been at the Merlot with a straw again, my dear?

rainey  ;)

LOL, well, to demonstrate that I'm not quite ready for the Betty Ford Clinic (yet), you can check out I'LL grab his hair for him!!!!!! at the very bottom of p. 5 of the Current Talk II board.  Scroll down around 4 or 5 replies to your conversation with he who has come to be known as "Pepe".  Enjoy! :D

I can't seem to get the date right in profile. I read help (it only mentions time, not date)...so I just emptied the slot. Earlier (yesterday?) I posted something about this, changed the date to 2/22, everything seems wrong). Any suggestions?

You'll have to tell us what slot you're emptying because the date doesn't display in your profile.  The forum time is there, but that's only so you can use it to set your Time Offset.  The date referred to under the Time Format setting is the date on the forum pages; your display for today should say February 23, 2003 followed by the current time.  If you don't like this way of displaying the date you'll have to look through the codes in Time Format (follow the ? mark) to get it the way you prefer.

We saw your other post about dates but unfortunately you'll have to repeat the question because you seemed to be asking why all the topics had that day's date on them, which wasn't at all the case.

(There's not one there now, right??)

No, though Robin's summaries will be illustrated again when MB is able.

Thanks, raineypark! [insert thumbs up smiley here :)]

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Updated profiles - EMAIL ADDRESSES
« on: February 23, 2003, 09:09:44 PM »
While many of us are taking the time to update our profiles, while birthdates, avatars, or secret questions are completely optional, I hope everyone can verify that their profile lists a current email address.  I can't speak for MB or dom, but I'm being inundated with password requests following the conversion.  Now please understand that if someone is having a login problem I do want them to let one of us know, but the vast majority of the forum-related emails I'm receiving have to do with a problem that can easily be solved by using the Forgot password? link on the login page, which of course requires a current email addy.

Please don't forget that if you decide to change your email address, a new password will be generated by the system, and you'll be required from then on to log in with the new one in order to regain access to your account.  Oh, and I should mention that MB and I haven't had a chance to test to see if Compuserve, AOL, Netscape, and Road Runner servers accept email at our new location and with this version, sorry.

Thanks!

But what, exactly, is the 'secret question' for?

Password retrieval.

With MY memory glitches I'd forget it 15 minutes after I put it in and THEN what would I do?  ???

Not if you enter a question that you won't forget the answer to.  Like your bank or credit card company would ask.

OT - I thought of you and MB when the latter's alter ego got a mention on last nite's SNL. :D

I was just there to add my birthdate and do the secret question plus put in my password--again it said, please add your password. So, I went back, added it again, and it still said the same thing. It's the same password I use for everything.

Pulling a Vicki:  I DON'T UNDERSTAND
I see the 2 errors.  I guess I don't understand either, cuz if you enter your correct pw in the Required Info area at the top, add your b.d., and add or edit the secret question & answer as I just did in mine, the changes should be accepted.

Thought only the administrators could!  (Don't worry Julia99 -- I'm a comin' to the rescue).

Oh my, you thought MB and I were doing all that?  No wonder you thought we blew chunks. ;)  Everybody has the [applaud][smite] buttons except in their own posts.

But I did enter my password and it still said the above.

Hi Carol,

I was able to add a secret question to my profile just now without choosing a new password.  Maybe there was a typo in the pw?  Also, if you reload the page or return to it using the back button after entering your p/w, you have to enter it again; that's also for security.

Have you been able to add a secret question/answer since you got the error message?

I changed the setting so that modifications are hidden cuz I figured this version gave us all something to get used to.  I can put it back if you want. ;)

If you ever want to know if one of your posts has been modified, click Modify and the info (the last time [only] that an edit was saved for that message) is recorded there.

uh. . .can you explain the karma thing. . .i don't get my rating, i really gotta ratchet up the + points before i got to Court Tuesday

At the bottom of any forum page is a YABB SE link (as in "powered by").  Help in their horizontal menu takes you to their FAQ board, where you'll find, among other threads, an explanation of the user karma mod by one of their admins.

Good luck in court, and with your move!

Ringo, I discovered today that if you click the (blue) "new" icon that appears after the topic on any given board, it will display the earliest unread post in that string. I was so relieved!
Wow, thanks!!!

Now that deserves a round of applause, hee hee.
