all right do tell! is it worth getting a copy of the DVD
for a peek? >:D

If you ever do come across the DOD DVD, buy it!  It's nearly impossible to find.  The video is readily available, but I hear the interview that's only on the DVD is to die for.

Calendar Events / Announcements '03 I / OT - QuickTime popup

I like the montage too but the pop up to download whatever it is that wants to download is so annoying

Eleanor, are you talking about the Quick Time box?  That's what I see popping up alot on the board.

That popup asks you to update QuickTime.  If you'd prefer to not update, the topic "** NEW FEATURE - IM Sounds ** / IM E-Mail Notifications" on Testing 1,2,3 explains how to get rid of it.

Maybe this is where the "Haunted Newport" idea came about.  It sounds like a blast, but that's not surprising since I'm wild about both Halloween and Newport (including a certain great house by the sea).  I know last year's event included the haunted hayride:

http://www.austensharp.com/hauntedcalendar.htm

I imagine my question belongs on the testing board, but since the topic is here, I'll just go ahead and inquire:  can the montages be downloaded?  I use to do it all the time because they're so marvelous.  I have an entire zipdisc filled with them.  But I can't download them anymore, whether I'm using AOL, internet explorer or netscape.  Is there a way to download them?  It's been so long since I've been able to do it, that I don't remember anymore the last one I copied.

He may not have seen your request yet, Gerard.  The Testing board is your best bet for calling things to his attention quickly, but it's no big that this is here and I'll call his attention to it.

(It may be too scandalous to report on this Board, but I've read in several sources, starting I believe with the original KLS MY DS Scrapbook, that Roger Davis was constantly trying to steal the doughnuts Thayer David would bring to the studio to snack on.  There's also a story about Thayer and Grayson's fondness for small red bananas, that I think Grayson bought at some Chinatown produce mart.)

You are too funny, Gothick!  I know you're teasing, but to clarify for anyone else that may be wondering, we have no problem with someone repeating what's in KLS' books, or what they heard from the stage at a Fest or other public event for that matter.  This way the comment is the responsibility of the author/publisher or speaker respectively.  It's when conclusions are drawn here or gossip is repeated that the forum becomes vulnerable.  One of my kids is webmaster of a YaBB forum and a friend was appointed as Global Moderator.  My child is the webmaster and the GM is the one that reads all the posts and is supposed to insure that the visitors comply with the rules.  Unfortunately, it was a completely thoughtless post by the GM that resulted in the local police and school contacting me.  If you could see my face right now, you'd know how thrilled I was to learn that the comment was there.  Not only was it mean-spirited and highly embarrassing, but it exposed me (as parent to the owner of the site) to a potential lawsuit, though of course I made sure the comment went *poof*immediately and the GM with it.  :)  Anyway, the reason I'm telling this is to show that we have the guideline about repeating gossip just as much to protect the owners of this forum as to keep it as pleasant as possible here for everyone.

Gerard, I think the MB put a block up to keep folks from downloading any of the images posted here.  I forget the reason but I believe it involved bandwidth (you know, that weird thing programmers always invoke when they're doing something arcane they don't want us to know the REAL reason for).  It may have to do with the DCP copyright, though, for all I know.

LOL, Gothick.  There's no block; just a disabled right click for security purposes.  I'll let MB explain...

I JUST REALIZED WHAT I DID :-
(not to mention, I didn't know how to quote).

Midnite...go ahead and delete it..... :-[ :-[ :-[

Patti

oh my gosh

Are you sure, Patti?  I fixed your formatting, so you can change your anwers, or I can split the post into a separate topic of "Best and Worst of 1897", or I can still delete it.  You pick. :)

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Re:The new "new" tags
« on: June 18, 2003, 08:07:34 AM »
I love that feature.  Saves me loads of time.

FYI, if you click on a page in a topic in which there are no unread posts, "new" will disappear when you switch pages within the same topic.  In other words, if there's a post you haven't read on p. 2 of a topic, opening p. 1 of the same topic first will result in the tag not being there when you get around to opening p. 2.  So for topics that have multiple pages, I'll sometimes back up to the board's main page instead of using the up/down buttons so that I can access the last page of a topic directly.

If that explananation was fuzzy, you can blame the glass of merlot. ::)

Current Talk '03 I / Re:Parallel Time
« on: June 18, 2003, 07:24:59 AM »
Everyone complains about Maggie in this story, but don't forget, they are basing it on Rebecca.  She's supposed to be mousy and timid and actually, given the life she's led, does show more spark than that.  And, Quentin is supposed to fly off the handle over any suggestion of anything concerning Angelique.  Sometimes in this story it doesn't always seem to make sense, but just picture it as Rebecca.

The 2nd Mrs. DeWinter was shy but brave.  Maxim was older, aristocratic, also mysterious and moody, and as the story progressed became increasingly withdrawn.  PT Maggie, on the other hand, deals with nearly every situation by running from the room crying.  And PT Quentin is a brute who, at one of his lowest points, orders his wife to her room as if doling out a timeout to a child.  I find their scenes together very nearly intolerable.

You know....given the number of Fests, books, groups, sites and what-not that DS has fomented, I'm astonished that a list of the dead, their manner of demise and burial places hasn't been published by now.  Surely there's someone out there with the encyclopedic (not to mention obsessive) knowledge of DS detail to do it. [smrtasb]

You can find any info you want in the DS FAQ-- it's 1 mb and available about halfway down the page at http://members.tripod.com/~MrJuggins/.  It was written by Roy-Alan Hansen and Tim Choate.

I figured people might enjoy it.

Might enjoy it?  Stuart, that left me breathless!  Fabulous work, and the addition of the Kylie Minogue song struck a perfect chord.

i have been patiently waiting for you to get rid of it.  i haven't said anything because i was being patient and waiting to see.  and just because folks haven't said anything doesn't mean they don't hate it.

We knew how you felt about it, victoriawinters, and appreciate your feedback and your patience. :D

Patti, I hope you don't mind that I moved your post off the "TEST - please ignore" topic, but I've been using that other thread as a teaching tool and will be again today.

Regarding being able to use the smiley and YABB codes in the new feature, you can try making a list of the ones you use most often and keeping it handy.
