Kojak (after apologizing):  "May I?"  He takes a taste and says, "I thought it was coffee.  It's just my style."

He makes her laugh by telling her that he has a number of nieces and nephews that also "hike".

She's more forthcoming.  When asked for names of John's friends:
"He never mentions them.  He knows it annoys me."

"We stay to ourselves.  It's safer that way.  Believe me, I know..."

"John's father ran of with one of my friends.  John was only 6.  Does that prove anything?"

Kojak answers:  "It says a lot, Mrs. Cambell.  It says an awful lot."

In the next scene, he catches her son as he's about to permanently silence his victim.

Gothick, I just don't see the frumpiness.

Her 4th scene:

Kojak points out that her son didn't pack his boots and warm jacket for his supposed hiking trip.

"See here, Lieutenant, I don't question every move my son makes or what he wears.
Now what is this all about?"

"I refuse to be intimidated  by the police on some vague pretension."

She refuses to tell him anything more.

Her 3rd scene:

GH:  "There's no need to be sarcastic with your mother."

He tells her he's going hiking with some friends.
"Girls too, I suppose." she says suspiciously.

Her voice suddenly softens:  "Oh, that's all right.  I want you to have all the fun you can while you're young.
Heaven knows you'll get to be my age soon enough, and then you'll know what it's like to be left all alone."

A little sloshed:  "And keep warm.  I don't want you
coming back here with any cold to pass around."

These are from her 2nd scene:

GH:  "I'll get it."

The father of the girl who was attacked is on the other end.
He lies that he has her son's spare glasses, but really intends to kill him.

"He's not here right now."

"Really, I'm not an answering service, you know."

The episode is actually called "Hush Now, Don't You Die."

She was wonderful even though I think she barely gets five minutes of screen time. But she appears three times, so the good stuff is spread out...

Here's a grab of her first scene:

With amazing timing, Grayson's character, who is away caring for her sister, phones her son only seconds
after the police have left the door of their apartment.  Afraid that she called earlier while he was out
drinking, murdering a friend, and raping a virgin, he lies to her that he was working in the garage,
to which she frets, "I hope you were careful."

More are coming!

In the meantime, my VCR was set to record a little early and taped this late action from Cagney and Lacey:

Can you identify the DS alum that Cagney is arresting in this scene?  :)

I'm with onyx_treasure-- he looks bizarre.

The preview is here:  http://chocolatefactorymovie.warnerbros.com/video.html.  Violet (Denise Nickerson's role) is now a tiny blonde.

By the way, Midnite, I love your avatar.  Selby as young Elvis.  How old is he in this picture?  He looks 19.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it.  It was taken by a studio kid, so he was 27 or 28.

If anyone can find the old vampire themed Peanuts strips, would it be legal to post them?

I think posting them wouldn't be a problem.  I'll see if I can find any.

This is OT, but I could really use a couple of people to explain blog to me.

I understand it's an internet 'journal'; I don't understand why it exists....

This topic was locked, but if you google "What is a blog?", including the quotation marks, you'll find definitions, history, sites, etc.

Cute!

Does anyone else remember when Peanuts did a series of vampire-themed strips?  I think it wasn't long after DS went off the air.

Oops, didn't notice til I saw the broadcast credits that it's co-produced by Barbara Steele.

Some terrific performances and wonderful moments, but I would have preferred seeing a movie about Ted Danson's character (got a kick out of his slipping into Becker mode), or Daniel Baldwin's, Ellen Burstyn's, Brian Dennehy's, or Chris Bauer's... but "OF" focused on so many characters and events that I can't say I learned more about any one of them than I gleaned from reading news reports about the scandal while it was happening.

Cardinal Law, seen as one-dimensional, was the worst of all the portrayals.

Gothick was pretty close to the mark-- the flashback scenes to the abuse with Cobert's music and Curtis' trademark camera angles didn't help the movie at all; it felt more like watching DS, which gave them an unreal quality.

Happy Birthday, coteriemc!

May all your dreams come true.
