I thought that was pretty cool to hear.  I wonder how big a fan Michael is?

You know that Michael T. Weiss appeared in the '91 DS, right?  He played Joe Haskell and Peter Bradford.   [hall2_smiley]

Sorry that these aren't the greatest.  The smoke didn't help with photographing Selby's performance.

Sideburns!
Birthday boy Cobert.  Isn't ProfStokes' vest the coolest thing?

Oh, very good!   [clap]

Also, DSReborn's announcement topic is pinned to the top of the current Calendar Events / Announcements board.

And welcome, Kristin!   [wave]

Do you have a photo of yourself tickled crimson? I'd like to see it. (kiss)
If I did, it wouldn't be able to be posted here.  [hall2_grin]

Oh whew, so she was talking to you!   [hall_wink]

Thanks for posting those pics Midnite!

You're welcome!  And I'm not done yet, hee.  The cement ceremony:

If Robert Cobert bent down to sign his name, I totally missed it.  Or perhaps Jim Pierson added it for him (below, right).

Karen Black explained inside the theater that DC allowed her to give input during work on Trilogy of Terror.  Among her suggestions was that she have the jagged teeth at the ending.
Her tribute to him was very touching, particularly when she told us that when we feel a sudden gust of wind or a jolt of energy, or hear an infant kicking up a fuss, that would be Dan.

Below, she pointed out that this was her best side.

From the Forum Guidelines, which must be agreed to as a condition of registration:

7. These boards are not forums for the spreading of gossip or innuendo, or the defaming of the DS actors' private lives. Comment on their public behavior, whether it be a personal appearance or in the course of some other form of public exposure (i.e. a talk show, Fest appearance, etc.) is perfectly acceptable, however.

innuendo:  a hinted at or veiled reflection on a person's reputation or character

I have to ask, did Barbara Steele sign any autographs? (He doth ask with baited breath...)

I couldn't tell you if she sat at the autograph table (see reply #8  [hall2_rolleyes]) but I asked her to sign a photo of her as Dr. Hoffman and she was very gracious and friendly.  I was tickled crimson.

Switching reels again, I was trying to figure out why I'm not feeling the same disappointment about the evening as ProfStokes and joe integlia.  Then it hit me-- duh, it's because my expectations about the scheduled events were so low.  The last ShadowGram had already downgraded the musical portion so far that I wouldn't have been surprised if they'd just played a music CD while Robert Cobert sat in the audience (and I was half right).  I hadn't seen the tribute to Dan Curtis, and I'm glad I got to see his Emmy presentation and speech, but I knew at the recent Fest that I'd have numerous chances to see it.  The [ShadowGram] promise of a "big-screen presentation of unusual DS material" seemed suspect to me as well, and I'm sorry, but the NoDS trailer and blooper reel do not qualify.  I even debated blowing off the evening, but decided that catching up with friends, some that I hadn't seen in a year or more, made it worth being there, plus I wanted to meet Barbara Steele, and for those reasons the night didn't disappoint.

My understanding is, he was a fan, who ended up taking over the Fests, then at some point after (I think) went to work for DCP.

Yes, Marcy Robin, Kathy Resch and Maria Barbosa started the DS Festivals in the early 80s.  Barbosa was the chairperson and when she stepped down after 3 years, the other two suggested Pierson and he ended up taking her place.  He started working for DCP after that.

And...

I suppose he means three separate characterizations?  Lugosi was Count Dracula in ACMF and then the original movie.  The other vampire creations were under a different name if my memory serves correctly.  Lugosi played Count Dracula in a few revivals on the road.

He was referring to his portrayal of a vampire in movies.  Sorry, I forgot to mention "movies".  He played Dracula twice, and Tessla once-- just 3 times as a vampire.  Christopher Lee played Dracula in something like 10 movies.

nice pics. roger davis name was in an ad placed in the local L.A. WEEKLY newspaper that came out a week before the event.

Aw, bummer.  I should've said from ads I've seen.  And thanks.  It was great seeing you, and I'm looking forward to your pics.

Here's someone's blog entry about the event. It includes photos.

Where the heck was the autograph line?, the clueless moderator asked.

I don't know nothin' 'bout no "self-absorbed," but Selby poured his all into the performance, emoting the hell out of "Shadows of the Night."  A friend likened the audience reaction to that of a rock star-- flashing cameras, screams and squeals, and thunderous applause at the beginning and end.

Good pic of the grammophone.  I'm sure someone will be reporting about Selby's entrance, which may have been the best ever at a DS event.   [hall2_tongue]

john karlen, jerry lacy, roger davis and chris pennock were no shows. ... kathryn l. scott and lara parker were in costume but i dont think they were costumes from the show.

ARRIVALS:

Barbara Steele...

Lara Parker...

LP, KLS, Betsy Durkin, Robert Rodan...

KLS...  (she named her dressmaker but it's gone from my memory, darn!)

The Scream Queen, whom I found DELIGHTFUL...

Karen Black also arrived in the limo.  Selby did not; however, his presence wasn't a mystery if you recognized his wife, son, and publicist in front of the theater since well before the event.   [hall2_wink]

Roger Davis' name was dropped from advertisements before the event, nor was it on the marquis, so he really wasn't a no show.
