***** CHRIS PENNOCK IN NEW PRODUCTION OF SHAKESPEARE'S "KING LEAR"

Chris (Jeb, Cyrus/John, Sebastian, Gabriel) asks SG to please tell fans that this classic play opens July 13 and runs to August 1 (Chris hopefully adds, "and maybe beyond!").

Performances are at the Lee Strasberg Film and Theater Institute, 7936 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90046. 323-650-7777. (The location is near the intersection of Santa Monica Blvd. and Fairfax Ave.)

Chris says, "I'd love it if all the Dark Shadows fans in the area could come and support me in a truly terrifying endeavor. It's a wild and radical King Lear!"

Fans attending "King Lear" are invited and welcome to share their reports, photos, and program books with SG so fans who cannot be there can enjoy it through your experience.

To clear up conflicting info that has circulated following the above announcement, this is from the Theatre flyer:

SPOILER ALERT:

I seemed to recall Alexis say the PT Sam Evans drowned in a boating accident. The only way he could have come back would have been as a ghost....which isn't impossible since this IS Dark Shadows after all. ;)

Yep, Angelique said he mysteriously drowned while sailing on the Collins' yacht, and that Quentin's father committed suicide soon after-- another PT thread that was dropped (and further evidence of the dysfunctional union of Mr. & Mrs. Quentin Collins of PT).

Leave the confetti. Take the cannoli.  (That's what Clemenza said, right? ;))

G is for Grammy Award.  In 1970, "Quentin's Theme" was nominated as Best Instrumental Theme but lost to "Midnight Cowboy."

In that scene where he visits Angelique's room, ostensibly to tell her that there was no hope, the one MB referred to, he obviously can't resist her. He grabs her and lays one on her very passionately. I saw that not just as lust, but as a man really hungry for the woman he truly loved, one who'd missed her desperately. That he tried valiantly to ignore it is true, but he wasn't very successful at that point.

Assuming you mean the scene I posted (since MB's post refers to another time period), it took place in Barn's room and occurred in the ep previous to the one in which he visits her quarters and kisses her.  But anyway, I do agree that the kiss was passionate, but I don't equate the passion he felt for Angelique with love; far from it.  ;)

I'm not completely sure if it was adequately explained on the show that Barnabas had an affair with Angelique BEFORE he started courting Josette. It could've been during the courtship, or he and Josette could've broken up and Barnabas could've taken refuge in Angelique's waiting arms.

It was made pretty clear in this conversation in Barnabas' room on Angelique's first night in America:

A:  You're so different here.  You're as cold as that wind outside your house.

B:  I am not cold, but I want to be.  I have to be.

A:  Why?

B:  Because, Angelique, I didn't know that we were going to be married then.  To be honest, I thought I was in love with Josette but I didn't realize she was in love with me.  But now that we've written, (pause) well, you and I... It's impossible.

In that same scene, he blamed his own weakness for their affair and admitted that he continued to think of her after leaving Martinique.  I'm certain his dalliance with Angelique was borne out of passion and not rebellion.

E is for English, as in English branch of the family, or English cousin.

Current Talk '07 II / Re: Please help me with airdates of reruns

Hi!

The show captured my imagination when NBC Channel 4 in NYC began running the reruns in the afternoon. It lasted a while, but eventually I was forced to hunt for the 3am broadcasts. This must have been somewhere around 1982 or 83, but I just don't know when exactly. Can anyone help?

I think it was 1982.  The broadcast time was changed to early morning (or as MB and I would call it, late night ;)) by the summer of that year.

Quote
Additionally, if anyone can tell me the month and year they began to rerun DS on NJN, I'd appreciate it.

That one I know for sure, because it was around the time of the first DS Festival (held in Newark)-- that was Fall, 1983.

This is based on what I've read over the years, because I was and still am on the other coast.

Nah, using the info given here, it took only a few minutes to find.  Assuming that Joeytrom is referring to Ann Wilson's reported phone conversation with Turgeon, that is:
