Current Talk '08 I / Re: Discuss - Ep #0543

Instead she tells Adam it's wrong to kill.  It's nice to see Adam getting some instruction in ethics, but at this point it's a bit late.  Adam didn't ask her, "If it's wrong to kill, then how come Barnabas was going to kill me?  How come Harry was going to kill me?"

Then Carolyn could tell him they were wrong.  What parent (or teacher) hasn't come across the situation where they are explaining that something is wrong to a child who answers, "But so-and-so does it"?  For parents that argument is irrelevant because it's their job to set moral standards for the child regardless of what her or his peers might be doing.  And Adam is nothing if not an over-sized child.  Hey, B & J and Carolyn, nobody says parenting is easy.

Who here, when you were growing up, has heard, "If Jenny/Tommy jumped off a cliff, would you do it too"?  I'd love to hear my mother say THAT to Adam, who has, you know, actually jumped off one.  [ghost_wink]

He's seen a lot of confusing things in his life.

Poor Adam.  Another crazy part in this situation is that Adam HAS killed someone.  (I know several here disagree over who is responsible for Sam's demise, but Adam believes himself responsible for his friend's death, and other characters on the show have often placed the blame squarely on Adam's big shoulders.)  But how does Carolyn deal with it?  Does she tell Adam that he has to turn himself into the police, confess to what he did, and accept punishment for it?  Does she or anyone else encourage him to talk about what happened, to express his remorse, or to apologize to Sam's loved ones?  No and no.  Instead, the lesson seems to be that killing another person is wrong, but if you do it we will hide you away, sneak you food, continue your education in private, and avoid talking about the incident as much as possible.

BTW, I don't think killing Harry could have been considered self-defense.  Once Adam completely disarmed him, harming him was not justified by the law since Adam was no longer in imminent danger, and it would not have been morally right to kill him either.

I hope to be cremated when I die, and watching Dark Shadows confirms me in this plan.  Golly, the dead never get a minute to themselves around Collinsport!  Except for Jason McGuire, and that's only because very few people know that he's dead.

Har!

i also was paying some attention to the shoes of all three ladies during this exchange.as usual it was a low, squat heel with a squared-off toe.the kind of shoe that makes some here seeth with rage(wink*midnite).but are they really that bad?i wasn't around so the fashions hold a certain novelty for me but are the shoes really that ugly?

Well, I wouldn't have been caught dead in Vicki's shoes.

I remember the square toes and chunky heels being fashionable, and I like Maggie's shoes in that scene-- shiny with a slightly higher heel and very stylish for 1968.  The plain white was conservative compared to the bright colors and adornments we wore back then, but how often were we dropping by the mansion for tea?  If you were like me, not too often.  Okay, never.

I grew up in a beach town so we also wore sandals a lot.

Granted, Vicki didn't wear loud colors, but if she had to wear plain pumps, how about red patents with that navy dress, or a combination of red and blue?  Anything but black, and a heel that's not less than an inch, please.  But my guess is the goal was to avoid unwanted attention as much as possible, as Alexandra occasionally had the misfortune of standing with legs apart.  Sorry.

I can't remember Cassandra's shoes in that scene.

Wow, I must be really lucky too.  I installed SP3 last weekend and haven't experienced a single problem.

Calendar Events / Announcements '08 I / Ivana Milicevic on "House"
« on: May 13, 2008, 05:44:39 PM »
If you missed Ivana Milicevic on last night's AMAZING Part 1 Season Finale of House, you can catch an encore on the USA Network on May 30 at 11 p.m. (check your listings for the ep "House's Head").

It's also possible she will return (Fred Durst does for sure ;)) in next Monday's Part 2 called "Wilson's Heart" (on Fox), but I recommend watching the two-parter from the beginning because there are twists you will NOT see coming, particularly the meaning of Ivana's appearances as the beautiful passenger in hot black shoes.  As this is a very out-of-the-box episode, all her scenes take place outside the hospital.

"August Osage County" continues to win accolades, and now has been nominated for 7 Tonys (the most this year for a play) including Play, Direction, Leading Actress (2), Featured Actress, and Scenic Design.  While Michael McGuire was not nominated, be sure to check out the awards broadcast on June 15 (hosted by Whoopi) to catch a few glimpses of him!

Wonderful photos, MB!  It's always good to see there were Italian Americans in Collinsport.   [ghost_grin]

The full poster for "Papa-Palooza" is here.  But how bizarre is it that Will's page links to Robert's IMDb page, where (if you believe everything the IMDb says, but seriously, don't), according to dad's bio, Will does not exist?
