Rebecca Staab (Daphne: 1991 TV series and very recently in our slideshow) has a role in "The Miracle Season", the [true] story of a high school girls' volleyball team as they rally for the state championship.  The movie opens next week.  Staab, according to the trailer, plays the mother of one of the many blonde teammates. You're welcome to you both.

Josette, I can't speak for the East Coast times (I went by what the website says when you first load the page and Eastern is at the top-- sorry about that), but this past Saturday I watched the 2nd episode of Kojak at 6 p.m. in Los Angeles.  So, as I usually say in these posts, check your local listings for the times in your area.  And thanks.

COZI showed up not long ago in my lineup.  But I'm still waiting for Decades.  [easter_rolleyes]

The 1977 episode "Kojak's Days Part I" featuring Virginia Vestoff is scheduled to air on COZI TV on 3/24 (next Saturday) at 3 PM ET/6 PM Pac.  It's a great opportunity to see her in a contemporary role and showing off her beautiful natural hair that even David Selby has publicly commented about.  Vestoff is a hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold and displays wonderful chemistry with Telly Savalas.  Maud Adams, who previously starred opposite Selby in The Girl in Blue, has a small role as Kojak's girlfriend.

Vestoff also appears in "Kojak's Days Part 2", which is set to air the following Saturday (3/31-- the day before Easter) at 2 PM ET/5 PM Pac.  [In some Southern California areas, Spectrum shows infomercials in COZI's 2 PM slot, so I'll miss out on seeing Part 2.  [easter_sad]]

...I find it strange that this review criticizes the show's main emphasis on the teacher character rather than the students when the series is based on a book written by a real teacher detailing his experiences. It seems odd to expect the focus of the show to be otherwise.

I think the point is that he should have, and could have, been written better.  While transforming the school's theater department, the book's author also spends time coming to terms with his own sexuality; the TV version is a straight-washed, self-absorbed and often clueless man who stepped over a more qualified woman to get his new gig.  There's little to like about Radnor's character.

My excitement to see this show had to do with our mutual friend who coincidentally also transitioned from English teacher at his former high school to head of its drama dept.  His infinite talent made him a perfect fit, and I've found it impossible to go anywhere in his smallish college town without running into a former/current/future student demonstrating their respect and adulation for him; it's adorable!

Do let us know what you think about the show, MB.

"Rise" premiered this week on NBC and I was surprised to see Marley Shelton playing the wife of a (really annoying, to me) Pennsylvania HS English teacher [Josh Radnor] who sets out to revamp the school's Drama Dept.  The series will air Tuesday nights in the "This Is Us" spot.

When production of the series began on July 23, 1990, it actually began at Ports O'Call and Fisherman's Wharf in San Pedro, CA. They served as settings for Collinsport and the water just beyond it. In order to help to curb high production costs, DC directed scenes there for multiple eps.

As a native San Pedran, I can tell you that DC did all of that filming within a very tiny part of the harbor.  (If you go to that spot now, there are hardly any fishing boats left.  It's all about the marina now and the private boats.  Very sad.)

Anyway, there's a huge parking lot between the narow channel seen in the capture and the palm trees, which surround the main entrance to Ports O' Call.  So it's not like the trees were right next to where Joe kept his boat, and you'd have to focus on the distant background to notice them in the shot while filming.

At the beginning of David Selby's movie "Raise the Titanic" (made before evidence was discovered that the ship was not intact), a spy on a frozen island north of Russia comes upon the famous Arctic Pine Tree.  He is right next to it.  What were they thinking??

Whether it be old love, new love, borrowed love or blue love, ‘Look Me in the Eyes’ offers a distinctive variety of couples. In an informal ‘up close and personal’ setting, 9 actors, 6 playwrights, and a poet explore the ways in which we stay together – or don't. Their portrayals range from longtime married partners to others on the brink of commitment, from cherished companions to strangers meeting in a park, from couples united by their fears to those whose insecurities make it difficult to trust. All material was developed in the Workshop at ARTC, a professional, intergenerational company of talented newcomers working alongside veterans of stage, screen, and television.”

***** DAVID SELBY – RECENT ACTING PROJECTS

DAVID (Quentin) and his wife Chip provide news about his 2017 and upcoming 2018 projects:
“David’s work schedule took him to Washington DC for a Gala at Ford’s Theatre; to (his home state) West Virginia for a poignant film, BACK FORK; to the Boston area to shoot a nice scene in an episode of the new Stephen King TV series CASTLE ROCK; and back to Los Angeles late in 2017 for another scene in the 2nd season of the Marvel FX series LEGION.” 2018 will be full also, with his writing and more acting projects.”

He and Chip spent time last year in Florence, Italy, and Paris, “as well as our annual visits with friends and family in West Virginia and Virginia.”

CASTLE ROCK is a new original series from Hulu, due in 2018. Hulu description: “The world of Stephen King is coming to television in CASTLE ROCK, a new original series.

---- “CASTLE ROCK, a psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body… Numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. (This series) is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind re-imagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.”
---- BACK FORK Description: “A timely and relevant independent film deals with the opioid crisis in Appalachia. Based on real experiences, it was partly funded by public support in a Kickstarter campaign. Director/star Josh Stewart: “The story I’m telling is fiction. I’ve made it all up. But these universal truths are real. This struggle is real. Addiction is very real and what’s happening with prescription opioids is truly an epidemic. I was born and raised in West Virginia. I know this land, I know the people, and I know their stories. They are my home. I see this picture so clearly because I’ve lived with the truths in this film for years. Some of them my whole life.”

Josh explains on video: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1159798350/back-fork/updates

Publicity: “BACK FORK is the story of everyman Waylon, struggling to hold his life and family together after a heartbreaking tragedy. He and his wife Nida barely recognize themselves, let alone each other. Their inability to continue on and heal leaves them hopeless. With the growing burden of the unanswered questions of why, and a heavy dose of self-blame, it’s only a matter of time before Waylon turns to the magic of the pills to make the problems disappear. He finds a kindred spirit in his sister, Raylene, as he sleepwalks through life with addiction. It's only a matter of time until Waylon finds himself at a crossroads. He learns that he's been asking the wrong question all along. The question isn't "Why?" It's: "Where do I go from here?" He's then able to see that we’re all wounded animals. Sometimes we die, but sometimes we live.”

Please share with SHADOWGRAM any media coverage you find about CASTLE ROCK and/or BACK FORK. (SG/Marcy Robin contact Addresses are within this Update.)

Do Christopher Lee and Harvey Keitel count?  I can't think of anyone else.

You'd think Depp would have at some point in his career...
