LOL, MaggieEvans.  It's great that you've jumped right in.  [wave]

(Ed Wood was a hit?  It made about $5.  Gilbert Grape and Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas were hits?  They made about $10)

LOL

I wonder if the writer actually spoke to any Orlando club fans, or if he just Googled DS and learned where they meet.

In discussing this documentary filmmaker's background, we learn that his inspiration to write and make movies traces back to Dark Shadows, since that's where his interest in horror and scifi movies began (page 3):

At around the halfway point of the vid that Vlad posted is an interview with the editor of the Wyndcliffe Watch zine.  Some might also remember May from the old OLD DS SciFi board.

Oops, sorry, I didn't see that 2nd part where you also mention May when I previewed, Taeylor.

Hate 1841 but love Chopin.  You can listen here to Rubinstein (whose Ballades I first heard, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's his recording in the scene) play Ballade No. 4 in F-minor, Op. 52.  You'll recognize the melody that begins at exactly 0:36.  Enjoy!

So how does a witch, who is vulnerable to fire, fight a creature of fire?  By outwitting her!  And so the powers of darkness have defeated the power of the Sun.  That was Diana Millay's last appearance, and I for one will miss her.

“So I created a doppelganger! A double my dear!”  I love that line.  And Lara delivers it with such satisfaction!
Speaking of new words, I'm pretty sure this is where I learned that one.  She also said "exact replica," presumably to make sure the kids understood its meaning.  (I shudder to think that for a time, there were TWO poison green dresses! [twch2])

Was Jamison's room really the closest for depositing Laura, or was there no space/budget left to create an additional set?

Great showdown between the two blue eyed blondes!
The blonde fur was really flying?  [ghost_wink]

If the whole future of the Collins is dependent on Jamison and Nora, how where they  saved before Barnabas became a time travelling meddler? ...
I'm in the camp that believes Angelique was in the original period, summoned even then by Evan's and Quentin's ritual, and we saw her show an interest in Laura's powers even before Laura became Barn's enemy, so perhaps Quentin asked her to prevent Laura from taking the children the first time around?  That's assuming that Barnabas didn't muck with events so much that Laura would not have gotten this far without his interference.

... (Ok, so that one deserves a topic all it’s own.) [ghost_wink]
True, but the question is also very on topic for this episode.  [ghost_wink]

Curious that Edward refers to having “always known” that Laura was a dangerous and disturbed individual.  Makes you wonder how they originally got together, and when this “always” that he uses for a point of reference covers.  Sounds like he courted, married and had kids with her knowing she was disturbed.
Could his comment ("I can accept the fact that she's a disturbed and dangerous woman; I've known this all along") refer to the time since she returned after running off with Q?

isn't this the first mention of the East wing, outside of when Vicky arrived?

I remember David and Mrs J talking about it when she was first hired, and M Findlay asked Liz to take her there first, which I assume happened (though oddly enough, she didn't mention sensing any weirdness there).

Is this the first time we see a room in the East Wing?

I think so.

Production mistakes kept taking me right out of the episode.  Selby and RD were watching for their cue at the start of their scenes, and Grayson seemed to be getting instructions from an unseen person (she answers, "What?!") during her entrance.  In the blooper that Taeylor mentioned, RD's scarf was low enough to reveal his bite marks before he was bitten.  And LP's arm was clearly visible while Laura was trying to wake Jamison.  Sloppy, sloppy.  Not to mention RD's overplaying of the bat attack that was noted by Pansity.  And this one can't be blamed on direction or camera work, but I'd swear that when Laura ran up to the unconscious Dirk, she called him "Derek" before getting it right the 2nd time.  (The blood gushing from his wounds must've reminded her of an oil well. [winkb])  We get great storytelling, but this is not DS at its best.

Laura: "O great god Ra, why have you forsaken me?"
She has GOT to be kidding!!

Magda to Quentin:  "What do you DO here? This is a public house? You come, you go, as if you live here. You do not. Get out."
LOL, what a beatdown.  She's managing to not only berate him (which gets better, as others pointed out), but also to start working on getting him out of the Old House before Barnabas emerges from the basement; of all the DS characters, could Magda the one who's the most clever?  She definitely thinks fast on her feet, and as we saw in the cottage in the last ep (when she relieved Laura of the scarab), she lies convincingly too.

Laura to Dirk:  "I must take the children.  I promised Ra."
Huh??!  I thought she wanted the children.  I don't understand!

Had things gone differently (and they surely would have in a Barnabasless 1897), would she really have returned for Dirk?  And didn't he realize the price of admission was burning alive?

I'm assuming that the purpose of the seemingly endless window shot was to reveal that it was dusk, but it really didn't, and the crack in the pane was yet another distraction.

I'm pretty sure this was the only time somebody called this Laura a Phoenix.

Ok, now this is the second time he’s watched  a woman burn to death.   That sort of thing could really give someone a phobia.   [covereyes]

And they both came back, yikes.

alwaysdavid, that plot is from The Manchurian Candidate (the 1962 movie, or possibly the book), though it was the Queen of diamonds, not spades.  [ghost_wink]

Maybe this is the link he meant to post.  It mentions the death of Storm's character, Bill Spencer Sr., which apparently occurred offscreen--
