No one mourns the gypsy girl.  Quentin is focused on his intolerable burden.  All Barnabas talks about is his mission.  And for Magda it's all about the guilt.  It's no wonder that Julianka is furious with this self-absorbed bunch.

Why did Beth only rate a tiny pentagram on her forehead?

From #648:

Quentin:  "Good girl, Beth. Good girl and always faithful, loyal until the end."
Arf?

It's interesting that Barnabas' curse was that "whoever loves you will die."  Magda's-- "everyone you love will die."

there is no Lara on the scene now.

I don't know what the point was of having her character say "I would like to stay" at the end of the previous ep.  She forgot to ask Dan Curtis' permission?  Another difference here-- despite his ordeal, Quentin's hair is combed, his clothes have been tidied and he has a coat and tie and is accesssorized.  And Magda is now present; why then wasn't she sent to get the fresh orris root?

Quote
Didn't Barnabas have a clue that the one person who could help was Julianka and perhaps keep an eye on her?  Apparently his thickheadedness continues even when forwarned.

Thank you!  His excuse that he didn't think it would happen this soon is a joke.  The first event occurred almost immediately after he was told the details of the dream.  And by his own admission, that was 3 weeks before.  So how much time did he think he had?  [ghost_rolleyes]

By the same "reasoning" though, Vicki Winters' trip back to 1795 hasn't happened yet, either, so the book shouldn't be available in 1897.

Yeah.  It's a mess.

During the seance, Quentin, who was really scared, broke the chain and ran out of the Old House.

Was Quentin scared at the seance?  I thought he ran off because he couldn't bear hearing that his last bit of hope had been ripped away.

Since it's no longer there...

Q:  What town is the basis for Collinsport in the Gothic horror TV show Dark Shadows?
A:  [spoiler]Bar Harbor[/spoiler]

I believe we have been told that Quentin was born in 1870.  Jenny's headstone says she was born in 1869.  It always interests me that Jenny was older than Quentin.

Very nice catch.  And welcome back!

In another groovy glitch, Aristede is wearing a protective medallion that he didn't have at the end of the previous ep.

Sorry, but Barnabas is an IDIOT.  When it became apparent that Julianka was the only person who could cure Quentin, he should have been thinking about the details of Jamison's dream, specifically the 2nd revelation (the 1st already came true) that the one person who could help Quentin was murdered.  And he should have been doing everything he could to keep the young woman safe, such as not letting her venture out alone.  But when she was late returning that last time, it still did not compute!!!

Julianka:  "I must begin at the moment when the moon begins to descend to the earth,..."
Not too swift at astronomy, is she?

"...the moment before the moon disappears, for when it does, it must take the curse with it, to the underside of time."
Now that is cool.

Angelique:  "Barnabas, wouldn't it be safer just to give him what he wants, for once not to have some elaborate plot that might not work out?"
Who are you?  Really, who are you?  And what have you done with our Angelique?

alwaysdavid mentioned that he had a hard time following Barnabas' conversation with Angelique.  Well, I thought this exchange between Barnabas and Aristede was quite the mess--
A:  Who are you?
Voice of B:  Where is he, Aristede? Where is Quentin Collins?
A:  I don't now.
B:  Yes, you do.
A:  Show yourself to me. Show yourself! (Barnabas appears) Who... who are you?
B:  Who are you is more the question.
A:  Stay away from me.
B:  You'll stay here. (quick glance forward) I will willingly go and you will not let me. If you told me where Quentin is, you would be much better off.
A:  No.
B:  Yes, you would.
[lghy]  If they'd followed the script, and I'm only guessing they didn't (though it's pretty obvious that JF delivered one of Stroka's lines and then went right into his own character's response to it), it might have actually sounded like an intelligible conversation between grown men.

Hmm, I don't understand how a buffoon like Aristede could defy Barnabas' command while under hypnosis.  I've never heard of an amulet on DS that protected against both vampires and witches!

We now know that Petofi had to give up his hand as payment for removing his curse.

Since Julianka would have left town had Barnabas not taken away her free will with his powers, her blood is now on his cold hands, and I think she should be counted as one of his 1897 victims.

Ouch, that was harsh.   [ghost_wink]

Actually, the site owners do state in their Terms & Conditions that DVDs sold may be "individually compiled."

And I understand the motivation to add an unavailable (not released on DVD or OOP) movie or TV series to one's personal collection, but unless these films or shows are in the public domain, I hope fans aren't automatically assuming that some company does not hold the rights to them and therefore it's legal to copy, buy or sell them.

I also found some terrible online reviews for that site, CB, which you may want to investigate for yourself.  And maybe it's just me, but I do not like the lack of a customer service phone number or address.

I think this is what she meant--

http://www.planetdvdhouse.com/product.php?productid=38420

The site is called PlanetDVDHouse, formerly PlanetDVDStore, which is not the same as PlanetDVD or the more familiar DVDPlanet, sigh.  (Providing at least a URL for the home page is helpful.)

Wait a minute ... Right before Angelique used the hand on Quentin, causing him to transform though the moon wasn't full, we were shown that it was 11 on the clock at Collinwood.  Here, we learn that it's the same night and Quentin has transformed again and awakened after being in the underground room for less than an hour.  We also hear a clock strike as Aristede and Quentin are conversing... 11 times-- proving yet again that time really does stand still at Collinwood!

It appears that bits of the set used as Dirk's hiding place, including the walls, were reused.

Aristede to Quentin:  "I don't take any pleasure in all of this."
I love the grin on his face as he says it.

Angelique to Barnabas (after ignoring his latest summons):  I saw no reason to return to Collinwood to continue an argument."
The poor dear was disoriented.  She was at Collinwood already. ;)

Please, I'd like to see Julianka try to cut out Barnabas' heart!  Why'd he let her get away?  Come to think of it, Aristede also backed off when she pulled out the knife.  That tiny girl intimidated both a vampire and an assassin.  But Barnabas' confrontation with her in the woods, his staring eyes illuminated, was very effective.  Her parting line to Barnabas, "You do not understand what [the hand] means to us" made me think no, empathy for anyone outside of his immediate focus is not in Barnabas' repertoire.

I heard someone whispering at the start of Barnabas' and Julianka's scene, just after Angelique left to meet Aristede.  Lela Swift, maybe, saying something about a cord??  And I'm guessing DD blew a line here-- after Barnabas told Julianka that he couldn't bring Quentin to her until the following night (since Angelique's backfired attempt complicated things), she said there wasn't a full moon tomorrow night.  Shouldn't that have been a full moon tonight?

Quentin nearly got a haircut as he lowered himself onto the table. :-X

A neat factoid to keep in mind with the pendulum scenes is that Mike Stroka claims (I thnk I saw this on one of the Anniversary tapes from a Fest), that both he and Selby went up on their lines somewhere in one of the  scenes, then basically ad libbed it from whatever point that was, on.  Story I remember is they knew the basics, but winged it on the actual dialog.

That's very neat.  I wonder if it's the part where he has Quentin get on the table, starting with Stroka's desperate glimpse at the teleprompter.  The rest seems to flow strangely from there.

Interesting fact comes out here,  Julianka says that she could count on one hand the number of people who understand the hand and know how to use it.  Does that mean she isn’t the last hope after all, that there is another ?

[spoiler]Nope, she's the only one who knows how to use the hand to cure a werewolf.[/spoiler]

And Pansity, I think Barnabas didn't try explaining about the children because of her statement, "I care nothing about reasons."

Quote from: Pansity
Is this HER way of trying to fix the damage Barnabas did to history, or is she just thinking of Quentin as a convenient way to keep her status with the family?
I think she just wanted to get with Quentin to keep her status in the family.

Angelique hints in this ep that she has plans for Quentin, but she won't reveal the real reason behind their engagement for quite some time.

American writer Claudia Gray (Evernight, Stargazer) had this to say in an interview on ninemsn.com about her popularity with Australian readers and why vampire fiction is the "latest literary fad":

The modern era of the sexy, romantic vampire probably began with Barnabas Collins of Dark Shadows and of course the Anne Rice books.

Why fact check when you can throw in the word "probably"?  lol

Congrats also on the massive amt's of posts that Magnus pointed out.  [occasion18] [occasion16]  The rest of us have NO chance of getting close.  (Though I was happy to see that somewhere along the line I crossed the line to Sr. Poster lately.)

Thank you.  But a certain gentleman is already close-- so close that I can feel his warm breath on my neck.  [ghost_wink]

Belated congrats on reaching Senior level, Jeannie.

BTW, if anyone hasn't seen Diana Davila's memorable performance in "Play It Again Sam" (or wants to see it again since it's SO good), here's a clip of Woody Allen trying to pick up her character in the art museum:

We learn the names of 3 new characters in as many eps.  The 2nd half of 1897 sure starts off with a bang.

The boom mic also drops in.  Twice.

Aristede is a terrific character.  But my god, did he really need so much eye makeup?

Aristede to Julianka:  "I have a fondness for gypsies."
And I get to play one in Parallel Time.

When Victor told Aristede to meet him in the woods outside Collinwood, he neglected to mention that a werewolf was loose on the estate.  Nice.  And yet, Aristede seemed willing to sacrifice himself to save his master.  What a fascinating relationship those two have.  Victor took immediate and complete control of the werewolf, but had to order Aristede to leave twice; lol, who's the more obedient subject?

Julianka, sigh.  So much potential there.

Petofi gets aged quite a bit in this ep.  In #766, Magda said she was a child when the old gypsy (Julianka's mother) cursed him.  Now we learn from Julianka that the curse was her great grandmother's and there were a couple of generations in between.  His fear of gypsies, however, does jibe with Quentin's ramblings about being in the forest with nine gypsies closing in.  Brrr.

Hmm sounds like this really is a later Ang.
There's much beyond this conversation to indicate that everything we've seen of her so far in the series is part of her past, including her Cassandra days.  Her powers are now considerable, apparently improved during her time spent in hell, but not good enough to master the hand.  Ouch.

It must be nearly midnight by the time we get to the Blue Whale scene.  Maybe that explains its lack of customers?

why is Barnabas at the Old House when he is being hunted?
I guess the mundane reasons are that it was his meeting place with Angelique because the room was already dressed for the opening scene, and he was still there when Julianka showed up to help move the plot along.  But logistically, I agree, it makes no sense for him to be spending time there.
