Just as soon as the story returned to 1969, the appropriate portraits were returned to the fireplaces in both mansions.  But that was a couple of eps ago, and in this one we still see the 1897 bulbs in the Collinwood foyer.

Stokes to Julia, about Ned:  "He seemed a rather surly fellow."
Ya think??!!

When Chris mentioned that Sabrina was "still in Collinwood," I'm guessing the actor misspoke, but when he said, "She's still the only person who ever witnessed the transformation," the writers obviously forgot about Joe.  And that's if you only consider the short list of survivors.

Now that we're seeing Lisa Richards' real hair (with a temp color), one could say it's grey, or silver, or even blue, but it's definitely not white.  I can't believe I'm saying this, but they should have kept the white wig.

Julia to Barnabas:  "Today, I was given reason to believe that Charles Delaware Tate may still be alive."
Huh??!??

Uh oh, there's a phone in the foyer again.  We know what that means!

I'm confused.  As far as I could tell, when Barnabas appeared between the halves of the stone monument, he was carrying a book, not a box.  But he told Julia that he had brought the box from the past.
As I watched, I was thinking that the box appeared around the book to keep it safe and hidden.  Yes, I know that makes no logical sense.

Quote
I was surprised when the heartbeat started coming from Barnabas's portrait.  Apparently it's beyond Barnabas's control, because he certainly had no desire to see Julia.
Now that one I chalk up to the writers needing an excuse to get Julia to the Old House at night.

I didn't know Sabrina had amnesia; I just thought she couldn't talk.
I don't think that's why Prof. Stokes was prompting all those questions; I'd always believed that he was trying to make Sabrina talk as much as possible so that she'd be able to speak less hesitantly.
I think it's more likely a repressed memory, which [debatably] can occur after an emotional or psychological trauma, rather than amnesia.  Though Sabrina's treatment probably should have been handled by a psychotherapist, Stokes seemed to be using talk therapy to help her.  In Freudian psychoanalysis, the focus is on bringing repressed memories to the conscious mind, blah blah.  [hall2_wink]

JF does contempt and sarcasm so well.  Makes me wish I'd seen him as Richard III in his prime.

There was also this topic about a Season 1 ep:

In the redo of the opener, the stranger faces the camera and we can see that Dennis Patrick is back.  Yay!!!

I'm not sure which is odder-- that Carolyn and Julia wore the same clothes two days in a row (did Carolyn at least take them off to sleep?  We know Julia slept in hers), went antiquing in them, and busied themselves back at Collinwood without either of them changing into something else OR that they wore their coats in the house?  (As someone who doesn't even own a coat, I choose the latter because I can't fathom anybody wearing one indoors.)

What was the reason for Carolyn's fixed expression of shock after Julia bought the painting?  That Julia is knowledgeable about art?  That she likes ugly landscapes?  That she didn't bother to make a counter offer?  That she has $300 in her checking account?

And yet, Carolyn seemed to underact after meeting up with the trespassing stranger in the woods who creepily told her, "You're a very beautiful woman."  Rich people are so weird!

Ah, a phone in the foyer.  You just know that a phone call is imminent!!

The beings that are to come are linked in the thoughts of Oberon and Haza and hidden in their loins (the usual thanks to Robservations for supplying me with the exact words)
Hmm, I'm pretty sure Oberon said the beings were latent in their thoughts, but it's no big.

I also absolutely adore this episode of Dark Shadows! I find it so beyond intriguing, wierd, wild, far out and one of my favorites of DS as well! LOVES IT! [hall2_grin]
What Taeylor said!  [cheesyb]

An unfortunate blooper-- as the stranger (played this one time by Mart Aldre-- another DS performer lost to AIDS) walks purposefully through the woods, you can see quite a bit of the edge of the ground cover.

At age 14, I was rooting for Barnabas and Josette to marry in 1897 (not 1896; silly Barnabas!), but deep down, I must've known it would mean the end of the show.  That was some seriously fast-acting poison, btw.  Josette had barely swallowed and was already on the floor.  [hall2_rolleyes]

Poor, poor Natalie, forced to betray the niece whom she loves so dearly.
Did Grayson, as Natalie, summon real tears?  She made me believe she was really crying.

I LOVE this intro to the new storyline, even knowing that it's the one that caused me to give up watching DS altogether.  I love the costumes, the makeup, the props, the ritual... It looks like a good deal of planning went into it.  The pins that the beings wear are very cool-- 3 s's that meet in the center, overlapping to resemble a 3-headed snake inside a circle.  It ties to the "S" that Haza traced in the air with her hand.  Very, very cool.

Petofi box in Millicent's room?
Yep, it sure was.  Her entire room was recycled.  Natalie's gown, too.

There was no Barnabas or Quentin in this episode! [cryg]
And no Julia or Angelique, though I would've thought that Don Briscoe had the chops to carry the episode, but he didn't do it.  DB was way over the top in his scenes, Donna McKechnie was over-emoting and we see that annoying habit she has of facing the camera to scream or even while just conversing (this isn't Broadway, sweetie), and Roger Davis seemed to be doing his trademark ad libbing, and the end product was a terrible, awful, very bad mess.  The one bright spot was the dialogue between Petofi and Beth, which used the analogy of finding a new road after the first one has ended to beautifully spell out why she has suddenly turned to Petofi, which is why I anticipated seeing Violet Welles' name in the credits, though I suspect it's not for the same reason that alwaysdavid expected to see it (Reply #2).  [hall2_wink]

The I-Ching experience felt very rushed.  We don't see Beth walk through the door, and we don't see what she saw.  She then tells us there were shadows.  "Only shadows," she says.  Just shadows, really??!!!

The camera really ought to stop showing the actors turning over and rearranging the wands after they're tossed.  But why is Beth not getting a clue that there's a reason she threw the 23rd hexagram?

Like the previous ep, Thayer David got very close to an actress' face and delivered a p-word so strongly that it made her blink and blew her hair about.

How fortunate for Amanda that she was well out of Tate's reach when she first appeared.  Would she have been treated to the same manhandling and verbal abuse that he showed his male creation, who also got stuffed into a closet, kidnapped, pressed for information by Tim, and then threatened again?  Maybe to some degree.  It had the Barnabas/Julia method of child rearing written all over it.

Amanda to Tim:  "I saw that man unable to speak, trembling with fear, in a world where he doesn't belong-- I saw that creature and I saw myself."
Was Amanda admitting to having vague memories of being in the same sorry state when she was first created?

alwaysdavid and Lydia, has it ever been established that pay scale on DS was lower in the absence of any dialogue?  I hope it's not the impression I gave when I've talked before about the tendency to not put an actor's name in the credits for a non-speaking role.  I wasn't referring at all to wages.

Sally, I added spoiler tags to your final milestone.  It happens in the next ep.

It's on one of the DvD interviews probably on volume 16.  He was very emphaptic that he had nothing to do with the storyline and everything else that was successful was his idea.  I wish the interviewer had asked him why he let it happen if he was in control of everything and knew it was going to fail.

Actually, what he says in that interview, after talking about how much he enjoyed doing a DS version of Frankenstein and how great the first Turn of the Screw tale was, and about the popularity of Parallel Time (which he implies came before the Leviathans story) that temporarily saved him during a time when he was running out of ideas (to "rip off"), DC says:

Then we started getting into things like the Leviathan and stuff like that, and I was becoming disenchanted right along with the audience...

and then he talks about how his input waned during the last 6 months of the show, when I couldn't squeeze my brain any harder to come up with one more story...  So he does claim credit for several story ideas but he does not say that
he had nothing to do with the [Leviathans] storyline

But also, I think one should take Curtis' claims, especially in these later interviews, with a grain of salt.  Another segment of the same interview that's on Coll. 11 provides a WTH moment when Curtis takes full credit for selecting Frid and hiring him to play Barnabas, admittedly while working in Europe.  A quote from the Coll. 16 interview that unintentionally sums it up for me:  I've got a pretty good imagination.  You said it, Dan.

It would be very odd if DC said he hated the story idea since Lovecraftian themes and threads showed up in his later works, such as NoDS, The Norliss Tapes, and even a couple of the stories in his second Trilogy of Terror.
