Oops, I meant to answer this.
I guess it's okay to post the date the show aired for those who may be watching on VHS!  If not just let me know! :)
It's okay as long as the same info hasn't already been posted in the topic.  Same with the voiceovers-- if, for example, a poster has already said that Edmonds did the voiceover, then VO LE is simply repeating, but posting the info again as a comment such as Louis Edmonds did a great voiceover is fine.  Hope that was clear, and thanks for asking. I know if I was Liz and I'd had that dream, I would have had the exact same reaction to it as she did - a look of what the hell was THAT about?!  [santa_undecided]  [santa_wink]

LOL, MB!  Love your dream montage.

No ABC logo?  [wink2]

At the beginning, what's the thing that Carolyn put in the window?

Liz's hairdo looks like a helmet-- so stiff and round.  I swear that huge flip could take out somebody's eye.

Were the puppets an indication that David and Barnabas were puppets too?  Or did the Dark Shadows people just like using puppets?  There were puppets in Jamison's dream about 1969.
Or Violet Welles likes puppets, since she's responsible for both dreams.

Thanks for the text of the poem, Lydia.  Couldn't they find a love poem about a man instead of changing "her" to "him" in an established poem?

Quote from: Lydia
Why, in her dream, did Elizabeth give in and laugh - or, on the flip side, why did she hold out for so long?
There's a line by Barnabas to David before it that I never noticed before this viewing:  "Your Aunt Elizabeth has a way of taking things very seriously, doesn't she?"  So I guess the dream sets out to make her lighten up, and it takes 3 funhouse mirrors and a silly rhyme (the version I remember from childhood is fat and skinny went to bed, fat rolled over, now skinny's dead... ahem, sorry) before Liz was able to relax, enjoy herself, and even laugh.

"Unknown Man: David Selby" in end credits... thanks so much for preserving that secret; who could it possibly be?!
I'll forgive them this one time since we get a quick look at Selby's face at the end. [cheesyg]  At least they didn't give away the name of his character, and kept the audience guessing.

Did anyone notice that the unknown man wore a watch?  Snort.

I take it that the same person or thing that knocked over the desk and phone in the shop to distract Liz also turned off all the lights there earlier that evening. ???

That Olivia displays her own headshots in her hotel room is just too funny.  She's a well-known actress-- we get it.  It's also decorated with items from her grandmother's time, such as the mantle clock that can also be seen in MB's screen grab of Petofi's lair when it figured prominently in #825:

I wish the sets had been included in the closing credits.  If they had, then yesterday we would have seen "Paul Stoddard's room....Room 24" and today we would have seen "Olivia Corey's room...Room 24"..
I think Paul's room resembles Burke's suite (#24) more than Olivia's does, but in the previous ep, Paul told the front desk that he's in Room 37.

If you look really closely at the x-ray that Olivia pulls out of the sleeve, you'll see it's actually not of a canvas but of someone's chest, and I'm guessing they got it for free since it's a tad overexposed.

Paul to Barnabas, in front of Carolyn at the Blue Whale:  "I barely know her, I swear it."
Ouch!!!

Louis Edmonds joins the story!
Carolyn:  "In 20 years, don't you think it's possible for a person to change?"
Roger:  "A person, yes, but not Paul Stoddard."
Me-owch!!

The antique light bulbs in the foyer have been replaced by the modern ones again.  [crazd]

Poor naive Paul doesn't realize that there's no way the Leviathans would have let him run off now with Carolyn.  I'm assuming they'd do anything to keep her there-- even kill a member of her family.

I LOVE Carolyn's camel coat with the chocolate brown collar and cuffs.

The sexism aside of Carolyn being Paul's possession, based on his conversation with Barnabas at the Inn, it sounds as if Paul was saying that Carolyn meant a lot to him when she was a baby but he didn't realize it at the time because he wasn't thinking straight.  Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, does it?

The framed maps hanging in Paul's room look familiar:

MB's capture from #762 of Evan's house

Barnabas waltzes into Paul's hotel room in the dead of night, and when he starts talking, the room lights go on by themselves!
I'm pretty sure it's morning (Carolyn arrived late for work in the previous scene, and I think Barnabas says something about it being too nice a day for Paul to be sleeping), and Barnabas opened the window shade to let the daylight in, but the technician was really late.

David ... What woke him up?
Could it have been the thing upstairs?  I'm trying to figure out if the thing also turned off the lights one by one in the antique shop, or if we're supposed to conclude that some unseen Leviathan is taking care of business.  (I'm so confused.)

Quote
Way to respect David's privacy, ECS, listening at the door
You'd think Liz would have noticed that there was no school book (or for that matter, schoolwork) in sight for him to have supposedly been reading.

Quote
Did Carolyn go to bed on the servants' floor?  Well, what are servants for, after all?
Ha!  I'm pretty sure that the last thing we see her do is turn off the lights and head upstairs.

Quote
A phone call with heavy breathing convinces ECS that PS is no good?
I'm thinking she was already convinced of that, though she'd like to believe she's been wrong about him.  But finding out that somebody is hounding Paul makes it look like he brought trouble with him.  Another woman?  A detective on his trail?  A loanshark or his bookie?

A mysterious stranger hanging outside of the antique store!  Who could this be?
Is that really David Selby playing the mystery man or a fill in?
...
The stranger's big ole hands look familiar!

I'm so sorry to disappoint, but the stranger is played this one time by Charles Rush.  We'll see Rush again, but his only other role worth noting is:
as a guard who gets karate chopped by 1840 Quentin.
Carolyn to the front desk:  'Did Mr. Prescott leave any messages for me?"
How could Paul be registered under that name?  I thought "Prescott" was made up by Carolyn at the spur of the moment in an effort to fool David.  No?

Paul to his crazy self:  "The Naga, it's gone!" [from his wrist]
Okay, I know the sailor didn't call it a Naga, so how'd Paul know to call it that?

Lydia, I do think the flashback was real, but that it didn't have an affect on Paul's actions that day because he thought it was just a drunken game.

I also loved the confrontation between B & J, evil Barnabas' chat with Paul, and the flashback.  It's due to great acting like we get here and in the previous ep that I can't yet say that this storyline is bad.  The actors are workin' it!  BTW, I think your suggestion of a scene for Frid to discuss is terrific, Taeylor.

The 1940s bartender was played by Jean Pierre Boru.  Or Boro, if you believe the Incorrect Movie Database.

The opener seems scripted pretty much the same as when we saw it previously, but it's interesting how the two directors (Swift and now Kaplan) interpreted differently what Paul should be doing during the scene, such as his movements and whether a line was spoken or in his thoughts.

All of Paul's declarations that he forgot he had a daughter were really ticking me off.  ("I can't lose a daughter I've just found." / "Your old new father." / "I thought I'd forgotten you.")  Grrr.

Elizabeth's dressing down of Paul was a beautiful thing to see.  It seemed to go on forever, and I didn't get tired of it.
Same here.  And Carolyn's reaction when Paul finally expressed his love for her was precious.  I really wish the writers had continued to mine these relationships (Liz/Paul/Carolyn) before the story became all about world domination.

More information was given on the thing, or creature, without a soul.  It needs a soul in order to be real.  How is it that I never noticed that piece of information before?  The implication is that Paul Stoddard made a bargain like the one in The Devil and Daniel Webster, selling his soul for a period of worldly success, and now it's time for Paul to hand over the soul.
But isn't all that about it needing a soul
just a red herring?
With the way the sailor was glaring at Paul, did he want to just buy him a drink or pick him up?

He actually is paranoid at this point.   All he has to go by so far is his having been mysteriously drawn to circling a date on a calendar, and a threatening note.   It's a little early to talk about "things" out to get him and vast conspiracies.   Oh, and the tatoo.   Okay, that would weird one out just a bit.   Good thing he ran into a Leviathan expert by chance at the nearest bar.
Definitely the tattoo.  But also, someone would have to have been watching and following him for them to have known to leave the note for him at the antique shop; presumably, he kept his trips to meet Carolyn to himself.  And being mysteriously drawn to a weird altar in the woods-- that's kinda unnerving too.

Maggie's right, downing a few can give you a whole new perspective, wink wink, glug glug!
LOL

What bothers me about the mentions of a neighboring village is that pre-1897, it seems everyone settled into calling Collinsport a town, but in switching to constantly calling it a village, the writers seem to be swiping yet another detail from The Dunwich Horror.

But it's a real beauty...A serpentine cutie...How it got here I haven't a clue.
Ha!  Nice, Lydia.  (Why am I suddenly craving a margarita?)

At the end of the ep, even the boom mic was after Paul.

The turn-of-the-century light bulbs are still in the foyer???
