We learn several things about Sky Rumson in this ep-- he's famous, important, demanding, self-disciplined, rich, a savvy art collector, sentimental, blunt, and anyone who would glance at his watch and announce that his wife will arrive in "around seven and a half minutes" is definitely anal!

"Geoffery Scott"-- did they spell his first name wrong?

No doubt Dark Shadows had to do a Death Personified story somewhere along the line, but I'd like to know what Mr. Best thinks of Collinwood.

Kinda weird that the actor portraying Death will return later in the series to play a man of the cloth.  And one that HAD to go and ask the question about whether any man knows any reason why the two shouldn't be joined together...

Quote
When he talked to Amanda, he gave no indication that he was acquainted with Quentin, despite the fact that Quentin has already died at least once.

Maybe because Quentin ended up earthbound as a zombie? [idontknow]

I do like Skyler’s home as it is lovely.  Does anyone spot any redressed parts?

Well, the fireplace in that Gallery Room (as Sky later calls it) will become infamous when yet another portrait of Angelique is hung over it.

Gorgeous cover!  Can't wait for this one.

The ep opens with Chris' portrait magically returned to the easel, cuz it was on the floor the last time we saw it.  Blooper-- Tate's front door slipped open as Quentin arrived, and he closed it since he wasn't supposed to rush inside til after the title sequence.  As the werewolf fled the house, a man off camera said something like, "I need your key right now."

What did Julia whisper in Q's ear?  He answered that he'll do it, but I have no clue what any of that meant.  A vicious animal was on the loose, but the characters went on about their business as if it wasn't.

In our discussions to date, we've forgiven the lycanthropes for their sins because they can't help themselves.  But this time I'm not sure we can.  Chris forced a man in his late 90s (earlier, it was said that CDT was in his late 20s near the turn of the century) to remain with him in a room without any way to summon help-- Chris dismantled the intercom, the house had no phone, and the guard dogs were somewhere on the other side of the locked door.  The moon was close to rising, but he kept the key inside his own pocket though he knew about the paralyzing pain that was to come... unless the portrait did its job, even though the painter swore that there was no way it could.  Did Chris commit murder?

I liked that bridge set, and I liked the old-time-movie tone to Mr. Best's voice, but suicidal Amanda didn't do it for me.

Same here!  I also liked Mr. Best's face.  He was no Robert Redford, but sweet and gentle just the same.  And I wonder if the writers were drawing from that TZ, btw, because RR has a line to the old lady that what she thought was the end was the beginning.  Amanda to Julia:  "The beginning was another ending."

The werewolf seems to really be fond of that particular rock!

This time, you can see that he's climbing up onto a wood platform built on top of the rock.  ::)

Quote
Hmm….I wonder why the werewolf didn't hurt Amanda?

The wolf suddenly turned around, as if it sensed someone or something behind it, and then retreated, and my take is that it was Mr. Best.

Quote
There seems to be a cut after Donna's line  “My mirror told me I hadn’t”

The shots jump about at that point on the video too, but the music plays seamlessly.  I don't know if that's what you saw, Taeylor.

Mr. Best to Amanda:  "I hope you're ready."
Yes, yes, take her away, puhleeze!!!!!!!!!

The voiceover places Tate's house "not far from Collinwood"-- evidently, Rockport borders Collinsport, and vice versa (?).

Carolyn on the evening of the first full moon (MB's cap from #917):

Carolyn the next day (from this ep):

Didn't she go to bed?

Rollerskates!!

Quentin:  "Something is drawing me back to that crazy man and that crazy house."
What drew him back?

Oh come on, three episode numbers for this one?!
It made up for the pre-emption on New Year's Day during the week before, plus one they missed that was mentioned in this post:
Re: Discuss - Ep #0894_0895

For this one, it could have been for the previous week's 11/24 pre-emption for the Apollo 12 mission landing or the 11/27 pre-emption by football on Thanksgiving.  But they got caught up later when #919_920_921 was assigned.

If the Leviathans are going to create a thoroughly nasty universe, then why do they want it?  What's the point?
Power?  Leviathans despise us for assuming control over the world.  Humans forced them to submit or be destroyed, so I imagine the Leviathans have the same thing in mind if they were to rule.  I'm picturing Joss Whedon's vision when the portal was opened at the end of Buffy's fifth season-- horrific creatures and chaos and darkness.

Barnabas may have been told that he was to be over the Joseph-Alexander-Michael entity while it was a child,

Yes, and to you and me, Michael is childlike, and Barnabas referred to him a child, but all I said in the part you quoted was that Michael believes he's in charge.  Based on his future behavior toward Carolyn and his insistence that Barnabas kill Julia, I'd say he doesn't see himself as a child at all.  Ah, adolescence.  I'd swear that my kids woke up suddenly possessed on their 13th birthdays, lol, believing they knew everything while adults knew nothing, so that's my frame of reference.

We all seem to agree that Michael's demand was foolhardy, but it's interesting that when Barnabas performed the ritual to explain his reasons for disobeying it to the Leviathans, Adlar, who should know best of all, showed up and instead of agreeing that it was a bad idea, told Barnabas in no uncertain terms that he had to follow the order.

I guess Magnus was pointing out the same thing when he talked about ghosts not being fooled so easily.  Sorry about that.  Anyway, Violet Welles wrote both the ep in which Michael orders Barnabas to kill Julia and this one that informs that Leviathans are very wary of vengeful ghosts, so you'd think she would have seen it as a plot hole same as we are, because even if Julia's death were to be caused by somebody at Collinwood, her suspicions are already focused on the antique shop and the weird succession of kids.
