Taeylor,

Ah, thank you.  If you're a Joan Bennett fan, definitely.  Of course it's about the family:  Richard and his daughters Joan, Constance and Barbara, and the author was extremely thorough.  And while it's not quite the page turner that RJ's book on Grayson is, there's lots on Joan's career (my favorite part).  However, don't expect a lot from the chapter on DS-- in terms of volume or surprises.

LOL

That's awesome.  Thanks, MB!

According to her biography by Brian Kellow, Joan was born on February 27, 1910.

Where did Jeb get his clothes?  Did the book tell David to get thee to the Big & Tall department at Brewster's?  And did Megan stash them in the fireplace and not tell Philip?

Julia to Quentin:  "In some way, Amanda was given a second chance at life. When that chance failed, all trace of her lice disappeared."
Heh heh

Again:  "Oh Quentin, Quentin, what you need is a new interest."
God bless Julia for thinking that tactic would work.

More personal information was revealed about Davenport in a mere 3 episodes than George Patterson in more than 40.  Those wacky small-town sheriffs, cuz separating himself from his gun with a murderer on the loose doesn't seem like such a good idea now.

My condolences to Magnus on the absence of Megan for what must be feeling like an eternity to him.

“Jebez Hawkes”  What an interesting name. I don't think I have ever heard the name before Dark Shadows.

The first time he introduced himself, I swear it sounded like "Jabez," the name of the character in The Devil and Daniel Webster that trades his soul to the Mr. Best-like devil (to improve his fortune, a la Paul's deal with the Leviathans).  But he pronounced it differently the 2nd time, and is Jeb short for Jabez anyway?  I'm so confused.

With Amanda they never really get too deeply into it, so we can't say with certainty how it works.

Yes, because if the desk clerk at the Inn doesn't remember that she registered, then did her agent remember she was a client, and.., oh, never mind.

B.Collins, yay for the search engine.  A search for "cliffhanger" on this board took me to the page that has a discussion about it:

The Dramatic Readings releases are a secondary range to keep Dark Shadows moving along for Big Finish between the full-cast seasons. Series two is currently being written, and will resolve the cliffhanger we left The Rage Beneath on, fear not.

I believe Season 2 begins release this summer.  Hope that helped.

Sorry about that, but the boards don't accept filk songs, and all the rest was your lyrics.

Especially since much of their appearance was merely a replay from the previous week's work, neither Selby nor McKechnie got a lot of camera time here.  DM has written and spoken about how she was abandoned beneath the peat moss as the lights were turned off and everyone else rushed off to shoot the next scene, which I found amusing to think about as I watched the rest of the episode.  Yes, I'm easily entertained.  (Her autobiography has her dressed in a wig and period dress for the scene-- an example of faulty memory.)

Also underutilized in the ep-- Professor Stokes. :(  His phone is now the one that says Collinsport 4099, which was established long ago to be Collinwood's phone number, and while it's been shown that the Collinses do not have exclusive rights to the number, Stokes doesn't even live in Collinsport.

Just in case anyone doubts that Davenport is now the man in charge, he has a nifty patch that says "Sheriff" sewn to his left sleeve.
Davenport:  "I don't know what to say either except to say that he died horribly.  I've never seen ... a corpse that looked like that."
Like what?  Slimy?  A little singed?  Davenport must be new to the area, because how bad can the corpse of a sickly man look compared to bodies torn apart or drained of blood?

Philip to Megan:  "Oh, he's the one who's strong, resourceful, and ruthless, while I'm none of those things. I'M JUST PLAIN SCARED."
Love it, love it, love it.

Davenport:  "It seems that someone mentioned what we believe to be your shop in his dying words."
Philip:  "Who was that?"
Davenport:  "Paul Stoddard."
Philip:  "Carolyn's father? Is he dead?"
Davenport:  "Yes sir. Very dead."
It seems that on DS, there are 3 Stages of Death:  Dying, dead, and very dead.  [laughing11]

Did Dennis want to leave?  It seems like someone commented that he had another project to do or something and that is why he was killed off.

It seems to me that killing Paul was the inevitable next step anyway.  But despite some big hints that he would be returning as a ghost to haunt his murderer, he wasn't available because he was working on the movie "Joe."  Amanda (if you care ;)) was killed off because she was leaving, as rehearsals for Company were about to start.

How is someone very dead? LOL

I think it's like being just a little pregnant.

we see it in what is apparently Megan's bedroom in episode 927.  I think this is supposed to be a different bedroom from the one we saw in episode 892; that bedroom later had its windows boarded up and is, unless I misunderstood things, the breathing room, so Megan would now be using a different bedroom.

The Antique Shop definitely has two of them, cuz one can again be seen in the boarded-up room in #933 after [spoiler]the creature breaks out to find Paul.[/spoiler]

Quentin:  "We must not touch."
It's an interesting obstacle that was surmounted nicely by the lovers in Pushing Daisies (using dish gloves and cellophane) and is also oddly reminiscent of a certain love scene in The Naked Gun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YFC0O393DQ). [wink2]

Quentin:  "Don't struggle. Stand still. Stay still."
Amanda (stuck in web):  "I can't."
OMG, what is wrong with this woman?!!
The idea that love sometimes requires an act of heroism is a good one, but Amanda is so constantly annoying throughout that I suspect this is the episode that caused me to turn DS off in 1970 and sign up for a high school activity with daily after-school practices.

I thought this was hilarious!--
Megan (about Paul):  "Now you said it would be best if he were dead."
Phillip:  "I didn't say that. You did."
Megan:  "Oh no matter. It's true."

I guess Stoddard is "safe" now (according to Elliot) because of TES's elaborate security system!   Elliot's other room.... I keep thinking Adam's in there.
[lghy]

Julia to Stokes:  "Paul Stoddard is dead."
And you didn't have to play the episode backwards to hear it!

At least one thing went right for Paul-- if he'd died a few hours earlier, he would have crossed paths with Amanda in Mr. Best's hotel.

The final scene of the previous ep was reshot-- with identical dialogue and camerawork-- except we actually see the portrait this time.

The portrait was separated from its frame long ago, so now the "Quentin Collins, 1897" is printed directly on the canvas, and we're not supposed to notice that it wasn't there before.

The Stopping Off Place is now the Passing Through Place, and I wonder why Amanda behaves as if she's never seen it before even though she once related her memories of being there in 1897 to Julia.

Mr. Best is aware that Quentin lives "courtesy of Count Petofi," and do you suppose Death and the Count have ever met?

Quentin:  "I'll love her like no other woman's ever been loved."
::swoons::

Goodbye to Olivia Corey, because the end credits are calling her Amanda Harris again.

(edited)
Taeylor, these comments are not for this episode, which may solve the mystery of why you didn't review #933.  Just to be sure, I'll move them after I've had a chance to watch it.

The accident that landed Quentin into the hospital must have been quite a severe one if the portrait couldn't heal his wounds right away.  Bravo, Barnabas!  Very neatly executed!
If Barnabas really did mean business, hitting Grant hard enough to kill him, maybe it's Quentin's death that the portrait prevented?
