What a well done fight.  Oops, Jeb smacked the future "stairway through time" with a chair.

And yet another Barn & Maggie moment.  This is getting to be a habit.

Poor Liz, surprised by a ringer for the Ghost of Quentin with her unconscious daughter in his arms.  I would've screamed too.

Carolyn to Liz:  "Sometimes he seems quite mad and other times he's charming."
I guess I was in the bathroom during all of Jeb's charming moments.

From the Jonathan Frid Mangled Dialogue Collection:
Barnabas:  "Carolyn, you must forget about your father and take care of your health. Now you must do this. You and I are going to be firm."

I don't think Jeb promised Carolyn "liberation" in the previous version of the first scene.

I *think* they drank a toast to it in both.

Quote
Q confronts Jeb... two big guys in a room full of breakables!

lol  They managed to avoid the pretty copper pots, only to have Jeb knock them all on the floor in a fit of anger.

Quote
Jeb has powers... how can he be beaten up?

Barnabas was concerned that Jeb would get to his room and transform, so maybe that's how he becomes powerful.  Though it seemed that Jeb hypnotized Maggie in the woods, or are we supposed to think she was paralyzed with fear?

I was sort of disappointed that we didn't see more priceless antiques being wielded as weapons.

Something in that store is priceless??!!

Is the lighted upstairs window supposed to be Carolyn's room?

Maggie is being held in the Stockbridge crypt!

What was that old movie music playing just before Carolyn sees Sky?  I thought he must have turned on the TV.   It's very out of place as DS background music.
I think Sky said something about having turned on the radio, or did I imagine it?  Did anybody recognize that music?

I had no clue, but Bette gave it a listen and recognized the finale, which her SO (not a DS fan, but definitely a fan of music) identified as Dies Irae (Day of Wrath)... even with Carolyn talking and screaming over it.  However, that still doesn't answer your question, because as you can see on that page, some form of the Dies Irae has shown up in a lot of works, including Requiems and symphonies such as "Night on Bald Mountain" (you probably heard it in Fantasia), and just a few of its modern appearances are in "The Ballad of Sweeny Todd," a scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and the Decepticon theme in Transformers.  But one name mentioned by Dave and Bette that uses its melody was Berlioz's "Symphonie Fantastique," which turned out to be the one.  It sounds so very much better here than on the show: Symphonie Fantastique - 5th Movement (Dreams of a Witch's Sabbath) and if you listen from 7:20 to 7:55, you'll hear the part of the piece that played on DS.

Thanks, Bette and Dave!

I wonder if someone got it wrong onsacreen, then.   I keep a spiral notebook handy and write these things down right away, and that surprised me enough to grab the notebook.

Well, Jeb transformed in the police station from the creature to Jeb.

I grab a spiral notebook too to write down the quotes that strike me as interesting.

The reunion scene between Barnabas and Angelique could have been spectacular, but I sensed an immediacy to cover certain background information, leaving no room for meaningful dialogue.  Or maybe Gordon Russell just wasn't up to the task, because I found the rest of the ep boring.  I honestly feel that the Leviathan shark has been jumped.

Angelique:  "Carolyn knew me as Cassandra."
Barnabas:  "She won't recognize you. You had dark hair."
 [rofl10]

I recognized the piece Carolyn supposedly plays on the piano as Chopin's Prelude No. 7 in A major.

Red flags should already be raised, but when Jeb let himself into her house and barged in on her closed-door conversation with Quentin, the last thing that Carolyn should have done was comment about how unsurprised she was by his behavior.

Quentin:  "Why don't we kidnap him and keep him away from the room?"
Barnabas:  "Take my word for it, as risky as it is, my way is the best."
That's SO typical!!!  Even though Quentin's plan might actually have worked, it always has to be Barnabas' way!

Jeb > monster anywhere, but monster > Jeb can only take place in the Room.  I didn't know that.

That's backwards, MT.  The monster can turn into Jeb anywhere, but Jeb has be in the room to become the monster.

Today we learned that Barnabas did consult with Julia about how to poison Jeb.  How disappointing.  I thought for sure that she would realize anybody who could grow from baby to man as fast as Jeb did would not be susceptible to ordinary poison.

At least that scene established that no amount of poison could affect Jeb, which explains why in this ep he was able to drink the drugged champagne along with Carolyn but was not affected by it.

Angelique's all ready to be spun off into a sitcom.  I never could stand Bewitched,

Has LP as Angelique bitten her lip before, as she did when she opened the door and saw Barnabas?  It seemed to be a Samantha-like gesture, but maybe I'm reading too much into it.  At least she didn't say, "Oh, my stars!"

Quote
Has anybody here caused his or her own car to break down?

Nope, but I think I'd simply fake it, because as little as I know about cars, Carolyn probably knows even less.

Ed Riley is a trooper for spending as much time as he did under the peat moss.

Sandor, I hear you and though we jest, I think the only thing creepier than zombie Davenport was the possibility that there could be oceans of creatures just like him.  His appearance saved the ep from being a total snoozefest.

Jeb reanimates Davenport, sends him to Collinwood, then shows up on the scene himself to talk crazy talk to Carolyn about their marriage tomorrow.   What's Davenport there for, to carry Carolyn away in case she refuses?   He seems stuck there with nothing to do.

I don't think Davenport was sent there.  We saw him rise and just start walking, ending up at Collinwood and hiding when he heard Carolyn, and then, perhaps instinctively, he followed Jeb back to the Antique Shop where he was greeted and instructed for what seemed like the first time.

When Carolyn was hostile to Jeb on the terrace, did he by any chance think to himself, "Barnabas may not have been entirely incorrect in his reasoning when he said Friday was too soon for the wedding"?  No, of course he didn't.

I'm still trying to get past the fact that he never once considered that he was the one responsible for Carolyn's mental state.

Quote
and I doubt that Barnabas consulted with Julia, either.

I assumed it was where he got the poison, since Magda is no longer around to serve that purpose.

No stopper on the crystal decanter?

Oops, one more thing.  Julia told Barnabas that Angelique lent her the portrait in exchange for a promise to never involve her with the Collinses.  But that's not true.  The promise that Angelique asked her to make was that Julia would never tell the Collinses she was there, which Julia just broke by telling Barnabas about it.

Opening Michael's grave was accomplished under calm skies, and Julia was dry when she arrived at Collinwood to force an explanation out of Barnabas.  The two of them decided to head for the privacy of the Old House, the DS theme played, and then cue the thunder and lightning, the mood lighting, and the raging fire.  But that's not the most implausible part...

I get why they added the never-before-seen part with Oberon.  It served to impart information that had until now unfolded slowly over nearly 50 eps-- from the start of the storyline right up to the last one.  In other words, it was an easy (perhaps lazy) way to insure that all viewers got up to speed on the story.  But I happen to think that Leviathans, in theory, was not a bad idea, so maybe I'm alone in thinking that catching up this way is the same as skipping chapters of a marvelous book and reading the Cliffs Notes instead.  But even worse, to insert the scene at a point when we thought Barnabas was unconscious threw the door open to inconsistencies, as retconning often does.  For example, it makes no sense for Oberon to tell Barnabas the details of the punishments that the Leviathans had in mind for him if the intent was that he would forget them anyway.  And it clearly was not the only thing that Barnabas didn't remember about Oberon's lesson; based on #915 alone, Barn came to the present not only unaware of the background of this race of people (Adlar had to spell it out for him even though Oberon covers it here), but he seemed clueless that any punishment awaited him at all and horrified that the Leviathans knew his dirty little vampiric secrets (despite Oberon telling him here that "we know everything about you").

Like Patti, I hated the revelation that Barnabas was drugged at the cairn.  No no no!  What need would powerful, ancient beings have of pharmaceuticals?

BTW, the hand of Sheriff Davenport belongs to Assoc. Prod. George DiCenzo.
