(Robot Quentin must've sung it ["Five Little Monkeys"] to his kids.  Which I think is very cool.  [ghost_happy])

I guess that was James Storm doing the voiceover, and I wish it hadn't been.  When Quentin was a non-speaking ghost, David Selby never did a voiceover, and his voice was a lovely surprise when we finally heard it in episode 701.

Lydia, I feel the same way about Storm's voiceover, and for the same reason.

Hi, Medeival Frisbee Guy!!!

LOL!  Magnus' "Medieval Frisbee Guy" window:

is the Queen of Coins from Natalie/Magda/Hannah's Tarot deck:

I love the idea of a stained glass window of a Tarot card, though that wouldn't be my choice for the hallway outside a children's playroom.

Has Stormcrest been mentioned by name yet?

Why oh why does the DS Program Guide list "Ghost of David"?

Somebody's attic has a portrait of a wrinkled Carolyn because she's looking 25 years younger here.

Revelations:  The playroom, Tad, Carrie, crazy youthful Quentin, Stokes was away but tells who was found where and who was nowhere to be found, Carolyn can't remember, Quentin feels guilty, 2nd worst birthday party ever.  Six familiar faces (not counting Abner or The Picture of Quentin Collins).  Me dizzy.  Forums pretty.

The opening scene is a replay-- a tact that will become more common in future eps.  And honestly, I don't know why they didn't do it more often before this point in the series, especially when the reshot material is identical to what came before.

Carolyn to Mrs. Johnson (brushing her own hair):  "When I was a young girl, you used to brush it for me."
A faulty memory borne out of madness?

Barnabas to Julia:  "I don't ever remember seeing this room."
I think that's very creepy-- the idea of a secret or perhaps even ghostly room.  But does it fit with Mrs. J's recollection:  "I was walking down the corridor outside of the room that the children called the playroom"?  Since it wasn't a room before Barnabas vanished into PT, then wouldn't Mrs. J find it odd that the children had nicknamed a
linen closet?
I'm imagining the writers having a conference and deciding, "OK, three days of getting nowhere is the limit, and after that we start losing viewers."

You may be right, because while I can't imagine it would have been easy to turn away from the show without knowing what occured in the summer in 1970, TPTB at DS weren't always perceptive at knowing what the audience needed or wanted.  And actually, I thought the revelations of 1995 started coming a little too fast for me after this ep.

I said yesterday that Julia was uncharacteristically frightened, and now I see that the uncharacteristicness is the point.  I wish there hadn't been a sound problem when she was talking in the Old House living room; I wanted to hear all she had to say about germs of evil being nourished inside her - or whatever it was that she said

All I could make out was that the evil entity, with just the one look, was capable of making a grain of evil that existed in her nature grow and grow.  Or something.

According to Mrs. Johnson, there was a spirit of joy and love at Collinwood just before the bad thing came on the scene.  Somehow I doubt that Barnabas and Julia will get the message that everybody's happier when they're not around.

LOL  Shouldn't the happiness and joyness ;) that was felt throughout the house have been cause enough for suspicion?  :D

Cool Batman angle.   It works.

I like it too.  And as a side benefit, it almost disguises the fact that the hallway will have had a remodel the next time we see it (after this scene is replayed).

If you don't think Stokes' device looks old-fashioned now, then that's good because all I can think when I see it is how silly it is that they didn't consider that medical technology would advance in 25 years.

I meant the one Stokes wore, which had separate components attached by a long wire.

I have news for all you people that make fun of Quentin's wardrobe from this storyline: a lot of the things he wears, including that color of yellow shirt, are coming back in style. I was in JC Penny and Van Heusen this past Monday and saw dozens and dozens of them.

Noooooooooo!

just think of how much fun it could have been to have had her around if McKechnie had been available - particularly because she could scream with the best of them...

She owns the portrait of Angelique from NoDS (which was based on the one in this storyline) and a few years back there was a publicity photo published of her posing in front of it (which may be the same photo Midnite was referring to).

There's a color version of Lara Parker in front of the NoDS portrait on her official site; it's currently the 5th image in her gallery:
http://www.laraparker.com/gallery/index.html
Someone must have set her straight, because in an earlier [online] interview she identified it as being from late in the TV show.

Not sure about either of the portraits from the series, though.

The 1795 portrait sold at a Festival years ago for $2500.  I've never heard what came of the PT portrait.

Points off for the by-now obligatory music-box theme.   You're not allowed to have a music box theme if no music box is in the storyline...
A carousel music box doesn't count?  [hdscrt]
Oops, I meant to respond that your memory and eyes are fine, Lydia-- Naomi's plaque used to be under the lion's head and Joshua's was on its left.

Both extras (the records clerk and the trespasser) had roles during Leviathans-- as Art Professor and zombie respectively.  And the Collinsport Inn set was recycled to house the Dept. of Records.

I just love 1995.
Me too.  [ghost_happy]

Golly did Carolyn look awful!  It was clear that there was a lot of makeup there, and I imagined Carolyn slathering it on every other morning or so.  I thought of Carolyn as we first saw her in 1966, young and silly.  It was terribly sad to see her so changed.
In his DS Video Reviews, David Hofstede wrote that Nancy Barrett should sue "since she looks a lot better than the makeup people predicted."  I suppose they meant for her character to have been through hell and back, but still...

The big oval light bulb lamp in the closing credits might be the one and only trace of anything "futuristic".    I'm glad we at least got that.
Yes, but it still doesn't make up for Stokes' hearing aid, which was obsolete by 1971.  Ugh!

Kudos to Sy Thomashoff for the best trashing of an established set ever!

The slide that we see at the start of the 1995 eps makes Collinwood appear eerie and abandoned, but it's unfortunate that it's also always backwards.

Julia:  "We forget how rare a life of love can be. You're not the only one who has had so little hope. It's something one learns to live with. We can get used to anything if we have to."
Awesome!  And Barnabas' reaction is priceless.

In 1970, Henry Beecham is a year old.
But he was born in 1967. ;)

Leonardo has been moved, from left of the fireplace in the drawing room at Collinwood to the right of it.  And evidently he wasn't considered worth taking to the place at Finlay's Cove.
Hmm, perhaps the survivors didn't know who the hell he was either?

Had we seen "Finlay's Cove" before?  Not bits of the set, I mean fictionally.   B said PT Roxanne had lived there.  Did we know that?
Roxanne first mentioned Finlay's/Findley's (?) Cove in #1058 when she said she was returning to her house there.

Quote
Is this on Collins property?
Possibly, since Julia knew about it and considering the current occupant, but I really don't know.  The fishing shack that burned in 1967 was, and in 1840 the focus shifts to one on Indian Cove.

Apparently we're to assume that even though we never saw Carolyn Loomis and Maggie Collins meet during the brief and turbulent time that the latter was at Collinwood, they somehow did.

Everything makes a lot more sense than usual in this one, up until the point when Will uses the cross on BC as instructed, and BC refrains from overpowering Will's will (as he'd just done a couple of minutes earlier) to get out of the room, and resorts to a trick or violence to get the cross out of Will's hand, or something.
That thought didn't occur to me, but I think the action that we saw made sense.  By the time Barnabas escaped from the secret room, he had lost the ability to concentrate on anything but wanting Maggie, so he wouldn't be able to concentrate on overpowering Will's will.

Has there ever been another time when Barnabas so lusted after Maggie or any other potential victim that it distracted him from using his mental powers?  If it never happened before, then how would Barnabas know it would happen?  That's why, like Magnus, I thought the sequence of events was absurd.

Has Stanley Simmons doing the costuming because of HODS or is he even knew?  His name doesn’t sound familiar.  Perhaps he was brought in to give PT its look!

Unless I missed it earlier, Stanley Simmons' name first appeared in the credits the same week that Frid returned to the show after filming HoDS.
