The repeated close-ups of Mr. "Hi, like my medieval frisbee?!" keep giving the impression that he has some significance, when he doesn't.
Hmm, I'm thinking that should be Ms.  On account of her lady lumps.

Barnabas is being creepy to people in this episode.  Why?
I don't know!!  It's like he was channeling Boris Karloff when he asked Hallie, "You're not afraid of me, are you?"  Intimidating much?

This time around, I'm watching with the knowledge that David H was crushing on Kathy Cody while she just saw him as a pesky younger brother.

That is a beautiful coat!

(Yes--
Except for the addition of an open doorway next to the fireplace, Stokes' living room set is identical to the room we saw in Mrs. Fillmore's home in Collinsport.  It has the same front door, the same half-paneled back wall with shuttered windows (already used multiple times, including Seaview house, the 2nd Worthington Hall, and Frank Garner's office) and the same brick fireplace (once part of Rev. Trask's room).  But of course his home is in Rockport, so Stokes can't be living in the same house occupied by Mrs. Fillmore in 1897...
--there's even a topic dedicated to the Seaview set with photos.)

Hi, CastleBee!  Very cute merch by that artist.  I honestly don't know if she's a member of the boards or not.

Thank you for the heads up, MB.  Seeing her as a golden blonde was very reminiscent of a certain witch from the original DS.

Nice, MB!  Looking forward to more.

LOL, Magnus!!

The intensity of the episode and its manic acting-- Hallie was shrill, Barnabas and Julia were jubilant and chatty despite all they'd been through, Quentin was annoyingly über helpful, and Liz's sole emotion was shock-- made the subtle fade-in of the lovely playroom at the end a very welcome relief.

So Hallie not only senses that something terrible is going to happen, but she has also mastered the art of eavesdropping on the adults-- already it seems she's a perfect fit for Collinwood.

And they finally got Kathy Cody's name spelled correctly in the credits.

The prop person had to come up with a replacement for one of the family history books since they trashed the original (blue) Volume 2 for a scene in the 1995 story.  And now the constant book research (and I do mean constant) by B & J has begun.

On its Fb event page, he writes, "Join us for a reading, book signing, and plenty of Dark Shadows stuff going on."

Patrick Hester blogs that he prefers his vampires evil and scary and believes their romanticization traces back to Barnabas:

A couple of eps ago, Lydia pointed out that it was surprising to watch Gerard and Daphne manipulate a piece of paper.  In this one, Gerard can be seen manually closing a door and locking it.  How silly.

Barnabas:  "Do you remember how you were 25 years ago?"
Stokes:  "Of course I remember. That was when I made my worst mistakes."
Barnabas:  "You're too old to make another."
Stokes:  "Too wise."
Ha!!!

What a pointless seance that turned out to be.

Barnabas has been referring to the ghost by pet names like "evil man" (lol), and all of a sudden he asks the Sheriff, "Have you ever heard of a Gerard?"  Um, how'd he learn the name?  Everybody seemed too afraid to speak it, and I seriously doubt Julia would have defied Gerard by revealing his name.

We've heard the stories about the torrent of fan complaints when Barnabas turned evil while under Leviathan control, but was there any fan uproar while Julia was lying to Barnabas, betraying him left and right and smiling about it?  Shouldn't it have been just as upsetting?

Don Crabtree, aka Sheriff What's-His-Name, performed on Broadway in 42nd Street, and his wonderful singing voice can be heard in this vid on stage at the 1980 Tony Awards (it won Best Musical).  Crabtree played Dorothy's sugar daddy; he's standing on the landing of the stairs amd sings the lines "the rumble of the subway train, the rattle of the taxi" solo.  Also in the Broadway production:  Jerry Orbach, Tammy Grimes, and Wanda Richert as Peggy.

There was scribbling over the volume numbers in an attempt to hide the fact that they were two Collins Family History Books, but you can still tell that the intact book that was plucked from Barnabas' hands was Volume One, whereas the one he later handled that was missing a chunk of its 19th century history was Volume Two.

It was surprising to see Daphne and Gerard physically handle that note, and then to see Gerard tearing it up manually.

That was jarring for me too.  I think the writers sometimes needed to try harder to figure out how to get a result they wanted instead of breaking their own rules about DS ghosts to accomplish it.  We never did figure out how Beth
moved the shovel to where it was needed in the woods,
did we?

The updated manuscript of Barnabas & Co. is in very capable hands.

The voiceover mentions that the ghosts of David and Carrie have been seen, and now I'm really confused because I thought it was Tad's spirit.  And it's bad, bad continuity that Professor Stokes doesn't remember
Hallie
when questioned about children at Collinwood in 1970.

In the previous ep, Quentin told Julia, "I never mean to hurt people intentionally," yet here he wants to murder Stokes. I know I shouldn't try to make sense out of the actions of a DS character who is mad, but it seems he has wanted to kill Stokes for a long time.

An image showing Julia's pin (along with, by now, some VERY pungent clothing) next to MB's capture of Minerva wearing the same pin:

So Stokes held an unsuccessful exorcism.  What happened to him?  When he was fighting the dream curse, he had power, but ever since then it seems to me he has been a source of knowledge but not power.

Since the exorcism resulted in his almost being smothered to death by an "overwhelming sense of evil" (from #1065) that caused him to turn and run for his life, it seems this ghost is just too powerful for any human to face.
