As for Ned, I think it's a knickname for Edward. The only other Ned I can think of offhand is from the tv show The Lost World.

Actor Ned Beatty, character Ned Flanders?  And that infamous DS Forum member damNEDrodan, lol.

There actually was another Ned on DS-- the unseen Ned Calder, Liz's admirer and recent general manager, whose name came up in at least a dozen eps early in the series.

And haven't we seen that drawing of Depp as Barn before? It looks awfully familiar...

It's very similar to a color drawing posted on page 70  that appeared in Film Fantasy:
...scan from the magazine (it's from one of its collector's editions called "Life Story")...

I'm about to begin watching DS from the beginning, decided to post my thoughts about it in this old thread.

Hope that's okay, figured it's better than starting multiple threads about each episode.
That's fantastic!  I'm looking forward to reading your comments, though I suggest the corresponding Robservations topic for your posts.  Each discussion thread in the Watching Project links to a Robservation, so once the WP gets to the early episodes, your comments for each ep can be easily referenced.  The topic for #1 and #2 is currently on the last page of the Robservations board, which starts out in order, though as soon as you've posted in a topic, it will move to the first page.

Couldn't find any threads about the pilot, after repeated searches.
Here's the most current one:
WB 2004 Pilot Redux
(Using the Advanced Search feature, I limited the search to topic titles from the last few years that contained the words "WB Pilot")

An Official Internet Publication of SHADOWGRAM - The Official "Dark Shadows" Published Newsletters

Number 225. October 3, 2010

Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS), announces the following breaking news in this Online News Update "bulletin."

--- DAVID SELBY – NEW MOVIE RELEASE & FALCON CREST TRIBUTE
--- DONNA WANDREY – STARRING IN "THE GLASS MENAGERIE"
--- JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT – SPECIAL EVENT
--- ROY THINNES – CONVENTION APPEARANCE
--- ANNOUNCING: PLANNED NEW DS MERCHANDISE

**** DAVID IN "THE SOCIAL NETWORK"
**** DAVID & SUSAN SULLIVAN TO ATTEND "FALCON CREST" TRIBUTE

--- SG previously reported David's (Quentin) role as "Gage" in THE SOCIAL NETWORK, which opened nationwide Oct. 1. Industry, critical, and public interest has been very high for the movie.

David's wife Chip tells SG: "David has a small but very nice role in the big film opening on Oct. 1st, The Social Network. We saw a screening - very well made morality study of the beginnings of Facebook."

Written by the acclaimed Aaron Sorkin (THE WEST WING), the movie follows the development of Facebook by two Harvard undergrads in 2003, tracing as the internet network explodes into a worldwide phenomenon worth billions within a few years. LA Times 9-26: Star Andrew Garfield: "The themes are universal: friendship, betrayal, power, greed, filial obligation, differing value systems, success, money. It's all very Shakespearean. It's Greek" in its personal and professional tragedies. "Everyone's right and everyone's wrong. It's all gray."

The new SG #119 print issue will feature interviews, articles, reviews, and other media coverage for the film.

--- SG just received confirmation that DAVID will participate in FALCON CREST: A LOOK BACK at the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles on 10-12 at 7:00 pm. SUSAN SULLIVAN (DS Ghost), who played his FC wife "Maggie Gioberti Channing," also is scheduled to attend.
David starred as "Richard Channing" in the primetime drama from its 2nd season (1982) through 1990. That complete 2nd season DVD now is available from www.wbshop.com

The prestigious Paley event hosts other cast members and series creator Earl Hmaner, who all will discuss the series and comment on selected FC episodes/scenes to be shown.

Paley publicity: "Ah, the decadent eighties. America exhibited an unquenchable thirst for nighttime soaps; witness the phenomenal success of Dallas, Dynasty, Knots Landing, and this Napa Valley–set CBS sudser, pivoting on the battle for control of Falcon Crest Wineries between the virtuous Chase Gioberti (Robert Foxworth) and the conniving Angela Channing (Jane Wyman, Oscar-winner and Ronald Reagan's ex). Falcon Crest was created by—of all people—Earl Hamner, whose previous foray into family drama, The Waltons, was the anti-prime-time soap: wholesome, chaste, and poor. Falcon Crest, by contrast, was all about money, power, sex, and wine. Come relive the Reagan years as Hamner and the cast look back on one of the most popular and exemplary shows of the decade."

Tickets are $10 for Paley Center members, $15 for non-members.
The Paley Center for Media is located at 465 North Beverly Dr. in Beverly Hills, CA.

The Vermont Stage Company offers "professional theatre in an intimate setting." http://www.vtstage.org/

Theater publicity: "Vermont Stage Company presents Tennessee Williams' autobiographical masterpiece at FlynnSpace in Burlington. The story of Tom, a young writer, his fiercely optimistic mother Amanda, and Laura, his beloved and broken-hearted sister, this delicate and haunting memory play is a true classic of the American theatre."

FlynnSpace is located at 153 Main St.,Burlington, VT 05401. 802-863-5966.

Yet he's also "Regular Joe," the encouraging face and voice of HitRECord.org

Website welcome: "HITRECORD.ORG is a project I started almost 5 years ago now, and in 2010, we've evolved into a professional open collaborative production company. We create and develop art and media collaboratively here on our site. Even this introductory video is the remixed result of a great many contributions. So rather than just exhibiting and admiring each other's work as isolated individuals, we gather here to collectively work on projects together. Videos, writing, photography, music, anything -- we call them all RECords. "
Their FALL FORMAL event is planned for 10-28 at 8:00. Publicity follows.

"Ladies and Gentlemen of New York! Summer is gone and Autumn has come - you know what that means... It's time to put on a show!

As David and Hallie talked in the gazebo, I thought: "David's old enough to know he should get some help on this."  But then, as David talked about wanting to wait and see who would come, I imagined David going to Barnabas, and it didn't compute.  David wants to believe he's big enough to handle these things himself.  And it's not at all certain that Barnabas would be any help.  I mean, I'm assuming David doesn't want to see all his friends and relations dropping like flies.
I'd be miffed and frustrated too if I overheard the grownups fussing about some terrible thing that would center around me, but no one would talk to me directly about it.  So if I were David, I might decide to keep my own secrets from them too.

Liz's reading material-- Astrology by Louis MacNeice-- is a real book:  http://www.amazon.com/Astrology-Louis-MacNeice/dp/0385052456
But according to on-line biographies, the author was drinking heavily and viewed that work (published posthumously) and other free-lance projects written during that time as "hack work."

Did they neglect to put Kathryn Leigh Scott in the closing credits?
Whoops.

Do we have any idea yet of why the latest spirits started haunting Collinwood now?  When Quentin's ghost was doing the haunting, there were identifiable reasons for the timing.  I can't remember ever learning what set off this latest haunting.
This isn't a spoiler, but since a lot of fans believe that Amy's presence at Collinwood was the catalyst for the first haunting, it seems likely that Hallie served the same purpose.  How could Carrie have returned to dance with David otherwise?

It was cool to hear Maggie mention computers.

Shaw's pad had some very familiar touches.  It reused the set and items from Evan Hanley's house.  And I spied a screen from Carolyn Frederick's beach house and the drawing room drapes from PT.  But for once, the windows appear to be genuine stained glass.
