Hail and farewell to Patrick McVey, who plays John Harris, Elizabeth's banker,
According to the above links, McVey did comedy, musical, and dramatic plays on Broadway and performed in a few off-Broadway productions-- what a versatile actor!  Not to mention his extensive film and tv credits.  The first thing that came to mind when seeing his face this time around was Perry Mason.

And Timothy Gordon was walking about the Blue Whale in his 3rd uncredited appearance.

We learn for the 1st time, at least as far as I've been able to make it out, that Collinwood's number is Collinsport 4099.

Carolyn mentions the interest she receives from the bank, which I assume means she also has a trust fund.

Incidentally, she changed her hairdo after she had lunch with Burke, right?
Yes, and she had it cut.

I'm not familiar with the author, but loved this statement:  "It was vampire and werewolf crack and I was a spook fiend."

Fabulous!  Thanks, MB and Sara Monster.  The panel of Liz is my favorite.

Why does Bill Malloy stir his black coffee?  [scratch]

That was frequent extra Timothy Gordon yukking it up at the Blue Whale.

Have Bill Malloy and Vicki met?  I mean onscreen, before?

Uhhh, can't remember it if they did.  But they did discuss the car accident on the phone.

They've been living off the money ever since-- I doubt Maggie's supporting them both.

I think she is.  She said she wouldn't be working there if he hadn't blown all the money.

They're saying Vicki and Sam have never met.   Didn't Sam issue a very valuable and coherent warning about death, in the diner, recently?

Shame on Francis Swann-- they met 3 times.  But Vicki doesn't know yet that the Sam she keeps running into is Maggie's Pop.

Thanks for the heads up, Gothick!

LOL, Janet

A couple more things--

Burke and Blair ordered scotch and water, which the swanky Bangor Pine Restaurant served separately.  Blair emptied his shot glass into the water and sipped his drink, but Burke gulped his scotch down straight, ignoring the water.  It's because of little touches like this that I find the early eps so endearing.

The tall maitre d' in the Hotel Restaurant was played by Ray Stewart.

I catch Barney Miller now and then on KDOC out of Orange County, and on that series, Ray Stewart (his DS character showed Burke and Carolyn to their tables) played recurring gay character Darryl Driscoll.  There are photos and a writeup about his character here.

Also, he shows up at 5:40 in this BM ep on YouTube:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej5vS4hp9wo

I thought a new character was needed rather than a replacement for Bronson, because wasn't Bronson a PI?  I'm pretty sure Burke mentioned paying him a retainer.  But at this point, what's needed is someone believable as a representative of a NY firm that's interested in purchasing outstanding notes and mortgages as investments, so enter Burke's banker.

The tall maitre d' in the Hotel Restaurant was played by Ray Stewart.  Does anyone know who played the waiter?

And when I have a sandwich, I generally have coffee with it.

A container of coffee, and hold the mustard?  [winkb]

I'm also waiting to hear "I don't understand" from Vicki

I just heard that recently, though I'm afraid not for the first time-- Roger caught Vicki at the drawing room doors and questioned her.  Here it is, from #37:
How long have you been standing in that doorway? demands Roger, horrified. I couldn't sleep, she replies, I came down to find something to read. To read or to listen? he asks. I don't understand, she says.
Sorry!

I think this is the episode where for years, it was thought Joan Bennett said "Welcome to Hollywood" when Sam arrives.

In a Nancy Barrett interview on the MPI videotapes, she reveals that Joan Bennett greeted one of her characters that way.  But she also admits that she may be misremembering it.  I believe that was the source of the rumor/myth that attributed it to Joan, though we know it didn't happen, at least not on tape.  I know you've mentioned before that you thought it involved David Ford, but that was the only other time I'd heard that detail.

Other actors do replace Collinwood with Hollywood-- Lara Parker, for one, during the 1840 storyline.

Vicki to Liz (when asked how she's getting to Collinsport):  "Walk. The exercise will do me good. I don't understand why you don't get out more... I'm sorry."
The other benefit of Vicki walking to town-- it will require her to take her foot out of her mouth.  [cheesyb]

I checked to see if Luciaphile had any Idle Thoughts on the subject. ... it was fun reading what she had to say about the episode anyway.
If anyone would like to check out the Idle Thoughts for this and the next episode:
Say It with Flowers - Episodes 41 & 42

Thanks for the recommendation, Lydia-- they were indeed fun, and insightful, particularly her comments about the Collins' finances.  Totally agree with Luciahpile that Vicki's dress makes her look dumpy, and that Joe looks damn good.

Was that a map of Michigan in Joe's office?

Yep, and all areas bordering the Great Lakes.

Roger's wound moved lower down, the sketch of Burke moved onto a bigger piece of paper, the phone booth moved back into the restaurant, Bill made a move to get Sam to talk, and Carolyn is on the move, period.

Food and or drink comment of the day: In the space of a few sentences regarding Bill’s arrival at the cottage, coffee is mentioned seven times. Seven!
...
Finally, Bill is tired of coffee.
Hilarious!

She asks him what time he’s leaving for Bangor. He tells her 1:00. She then tells him that she’ll meet him in the hotel at 1:30. Huh???
I heard her say 12:30.

My sympathy for your loss, Lydia.

IIRC, the wound on Roger's forehead will begin morphing and moving about from one ep to another.  [ghost_rolleyes]  (BTW, Roger already had no dressing on his forehead when he entered Sam's cottage at the beginning.)

The climax was to be Vicky learning the truth about what happened and Roger forcing her to Widows Hill to throw her off the cliff.  Just as he was to do so, David would appear and throw Roger to his death over the cliff.

I think it's an important distinction that "Shadows on the Wall" does not have David throwing his father over the cliff.  It states:  And, as [Roger] grabs [Vicki's] arm, and she sees the madness....she struggles. But they are not alone. David is in the darkness, too. He comes forward, crying out. Roger turns sharply at the sight of his son. He loses his balance, slips, falls down....down....down. David screams....and rushes off into the night.

Paraphrasing:  David runs for Burke, who returns him to his family, and Vicki sees Burke in a new light.  But the boy will be tormented by what he witnessed on the cliff, and, as he becomes jealous of Vicki's budding relationship with Burke, will blame her for what happened.

Love love love Liz's Day #4 hairdo.

Burke orders more coffee and some cream, and instead of refilling, Susie brings two fresh cups, clears away the other ones, and totally forgets the cream.  Wake up, little Susie.

And for the first time, in this scene... Angelique's music!

Good catch!
