Calendar Events / Announcements '14 I / Re: DS Fest - Dallas, TX
« on: January 20, 2014, 05:43:31 PM »
Fantastic, MB!  Thanks.

In fact, only the '86 Fest is covered - there's no mention of anything in Dallas in '84 or '85, despite the book covering a non-Fest event like San Jose's Timecon85, which Frid attended. But as we know things can get quite political with these events, so that may be what was behind the omission of other Dallas events.  [snow_undecided]

It may have something to do with Dale Clark being the original organizer, with Pierson handling the event (note the Ft. Worth address in the image in your Reply #5) in 1986.  I'm not saying there was anything political going on, but Pierson was the editor of that Fest Memory book. [snow_wink]

BTW, retzev, you might be interested in the material on this page: a flyer for the 1984 con at which JF was the special guest, performing his "Genesis of Evil", with Terry Crawford also listed; in addition, there's one older plus one corrected flyer for a 1983 Dallas fan gathering.

retzev,

There were at least 3 Dallas cons during the 80s-- a 1984 Convention and Festivals(?) in 1985 and 1986 (also Newark during those years).  In the final one, a nasty fight broke out at the hotel (witnessed by but not between fans), though I've only heard about it.  JF, Millay and Terry Crawford attended that year.

Jim Pierson is from the area and you could ask him about turn-out, etc. too, and CrazyJenny might have the videotapes.

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS) announces the following key breaking news in this Official DS News Online Update "bulletin."

**** GUEST INFORMATION FOR 2014 DS FESTIVAL

**** JERRY LACY NEWS: HIS MOTHER & A ROLE IN A WEB SERIES

**** GUESTS AT 2014 DS FESTIVAL – June 28-29, 2014

--- DS-TV Series Guest: MARIE WALLACE (Eve, Jenny Collins, Megan Todd)

NOTE: Marie was intended to play art dealer “Nancy Hodiak” in “House of Dark Shadows” (HODS). She was on the soap opera SOMERSET and her shooting schedule would not allow her the time off. So the role was removed from the film.

SG Online Update # 304 (12-27-13) premiere-announced more details about the event in Tarrytown, NY, next summer.

**** SG EXCLUSIVE:
“GREETINGS FROM JOHN KARLEN”

SG Online Updates in recent months have shared that JOHN (Willie, Carl, William H. Loomis, Desmond, Kendrick) has been dealing with health issues, including diabetes complications. SG previously reported this has involved hospitalization and ongoing rehabilitation center treatment in the desire to improve John's mobility and further recovery efforts.

Via phone with Jim Pierson (Dan Curtis Productions, DS Festival director), John  reiterated his gratitude for all the good wishes from DS fans. He appreciates the countless cards and letters he received over the months and is now in a private home. He hopes to welcome renewed health in 2014 and looks forward to participating in the DS Festival Weekend in June in Tarrytown, NY, if he is able.

John’s been a frequent and popular guest at the Festivals for many years. His planned return would continue a tradition he began by attending the very first DS fan convention in 1977, ShadowCon, co-founded by Jean Graham, Kathleen Resch, and Marcy Robin

Fans who wish to send New Year's greetings and encouragement messages to John may mail them to:

**** JERRY LACY’S NEWS:
--- SENDING GOOD WISHES AS HIS MOTHER RECOVERS FROM A FALL
--- CURRENTLY FILMING IN NEW WEB SERIES

SG greatly thanks Jerry and Gloria Lillibridge for providing the following information. I also encourage fans to join the wonderful Facebook group, Jerry Lacy’s Friends. Gloria is the excellent administrator and Jerry frequently shares detailed news, personal photos and messages with everyone.

The best of wishes to Jerry (Tony Peterson, Rev. Trask, Gregory Trask, Lamar Trask). His mother fell at Christmas and broke her back. She was in intensive care and underwent surgery. Happily, “at age 97 she is still going strong. The operation on her back went well and she is stable now and will be going into rehab next week.” His sister PJ and her husband were close by “through the entire ordeal” and assure Jerry “she was in the best of hands in the Dallas hospital.” SG sends healing thoughts to her!

In mid-Dec., Jerry reports he went to the open desert in southeastern Arizona to film on-location scenes as U.S. Calvary officer “Lt. Col. Scarborough” in the Western web series DEAD MEN. Set circa-1850s, the character is involved in negotiations to relocate a tribe of Apaches. Jerry: “Just to let you know, Lt. Col. Scarborough feels the same way about Native Americans that Rev. Trask feels about witches.“ He rode a horse for the first time in many years but recovered from “a bit of stiffness in the legs” after a couple of days. “I have one more scene to shoot in this season’s schedule, a meeting with the Apache chief, which will be shot in January. And possibly a return in Season 3 next year.”

There will be autographs, question-and-answer sessions, and photos with the stars, along with a charity auction of rare and unique DS items to benefit Lyndhurst. There also will be a DS Marketplace with a wide variety of memorabilia (some debuting) for sale at a range of prices. Available sale items include issues of the ShadowGram Newsletter, photos, books by several of our guests, DS collectibles, and much more.

These activities will be held in the Lyndhurst stables complex and tented courtyard – all with air-conditioning. Additionally, each attendee may tour the interior of the beautiful Lyndhurst mansion, featured so prominently in both DS movies. Fans also can explore the extensive grounds, which include the massive greenhouse and other structures. The famed Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and Washington Irving’s home Sunnyside are within walking distance.

Dark Shadows
P.O. Box 92
Maplewood, NJ 07040

---- LYNDHURST INFORMATION

The estate is part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and tours of the mansion will be available to attending fans. An acclaimed example of “19thcentury American Gothic Revival style architecture,” it was the elegant home of railroad magnate/Wall Street tycoon Jay Gould, who bought the estate in 1880 and added to it – inside and out. The rooms are filled with original and period furnishings, décor, and art collections.

Several rooms, with original contents, are prominently featured in both DS movies. The buildings are set comfortably in a spacious, open landscape laid out in a "gardenesque" style, with sweeping wide lawns, established trees, and a large variety of bushes, shrubs, flowers, and other plants. Fans can walk the grounds, but please be aware it is open sloping terrain with some dirt walkways, uneven lawn/plant patches, etc. All Fest programming activities on Saturday will be held in the courtyard and stables area, near the mansion. This area is fairly level with solid footing and easier access.

SG Online Updates and the upcoming new SG #122 print issue will announce and provide the latest complete and official Weekend details. The postal-mail SG published Newsletter editions are available by paid subscription.

« on: December 06, 2013, 03:43:29 PM »
'91 series alum Rebecca Staab appears in the upcoming episode of Masters of Sex, which premieres Dec. 8 on Showtime. (I can feel the nuns glaring at me for starting that sentence with a number!)

I haven't watched the show but heard from Julia99 that it has a recurring female character who is somewhat reminiscent of another redheaded doctor.  [santa_smiley]
