Number 248. August 31, 2011

Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS), announces the following breaking news in this Online News Update "bulletin."

---- DS' ORIGINAL "COLLINWOOD" ON SCYFY SERIES
---- LOUIS EDMONDS IN SPECIAL "ALL MY CHILDREN" EPISODE

**** SCYFY CHANNEL: DS & SEAVIEW MANSION ON "GHOST HUNTERS" SHOW

ScyFy Channel's popular reality series "Ghost Hunters" will feature the historic house Seaview Terrace (Mansion) / Carey Mansion in its Sept. 7 episode, appropriately titled "Dark Shadows."

The rear view of the building on Ruggles Avenus in Newport, RI, was used as the iconic image of "Collinwood" on DS 1966-71. The "Ghost Hunters" team visits the property and explores reports of possible paranormal activity.

A representative from NBCUniversal tells SG: "On the Wed., Sept. 7 epsiode of Syfy's Ghost Hunters - the most popular paranormal franchise on television - fans of the cult-classic TV show Dark Shadows can join lead investigators Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson along with the The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) team as they conduct the first-ever paranormal investigation of Seaview Terrace, the location where the long-running gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows was filmed."

He also provides the following information about the episode and the series.

Press Release Episode Description. "Premieres Wednesday, September 7 @ 9/8c.

"Forty thousand square feet. Gothic architecture. Former girls' boarding school. Once the house where the cult-classic TV show Dark Shadows was filmed.

"The owner of the Seaview Terrace in Newport, Rhode Island calls on the TAPS team to investigate the scary happenings in her home for the first-ever paranormal investigation of the mansion where the gothic soap opera was filmed. First there was a male voice in the hall saying, `Hello, is that you?' Then there was a drastic temperature change in the 3rd floor tower. The final straw was when she reached for a door handle only to see it slowly turn on its own. Jason, Grant and the team are about to get to the bottom of all the bangs, footsteps and knocks and encounter the loudest evidence they've ever heard."

Series Information: "Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson -- plumbers by day, Ghost Hunters by night. Jason and Grant head up TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society), a close-knit organization of volunteer paranormal researchers -- ordinary people who investigate and attempt to debunk claims of otherworldly activity."

More information about the episode will be in the next SG #122 print issue.

**** LOUIS EDMONDS TO BE SEEN IN "ALL MY CHILDREN" MARATHON

Louis (Roger, Joshua, Edward, Daniel, Amadeus, Brutus) played the "endearing" con man "Langley Wallingford" on ABC's daytime soap "All My Children" 1979-86, with brief returns in 1990 and 1995. The series began in 1970 and its final episode airs Sept. 23.

SoapNet plans an AMC Marathon on Sat., Sept. 17 called "I Love Lucci" (citing star actress Susan Lucci ). A very early episode with Langley is scheduled; there may be other episodes with the character. Publicity: 9-17 – 7PM - 'All My Children' Episode #1979-02567 (Original Air Date 11/27/79).... Also: Langley tries to convince Myrtle they've never met before."

Louis as Langley became a viewer favorite over time as he gradually charmed the popular leading lady "Phoebe Tyler" (Ruth Warrick). They eventually married in a storyline that celebrated love between 2 "older" characters.

Thank you.

--- UPCOMING: SG #121 TO BE MAILED TO CURRENT SUBSCRIBERS VERY SOON

*** DICK SMITH NAMED FOR GOVERNORS AWARD – HONORARY OSCAR

Dick Smith did the "Old Barnabas" makeup during DS and then "improved" it for 1970's HOUSE OF DS, the first DS movie.

Dick is named by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences to receive its Governors Award –an Honorary Oscar – at a special dinner ceremony on Nov. 12.

The Academy describes the award recognizes "extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement (and) exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences." Actor James Earl Jones also will receive the honor.

Dick, now 89, began his professional career in 1945 and created aging makeup for Dustin Hoffman as a 121-year-old in the 1970 movie LITTLE BIG MAN. He created makeup, effects, prosthetics, and more on THE GODFATHER I & II, MIDNIGHT COWBOY, THE EXORCIST, and Dan Curtis' BURNT OFFERINGS, among many other films. He won the 1984 Oscar for AMADEUS.

**** KATHRYN LEIGH SCOTT – UPCOMING NEW BOOK-SIGNING S

As announced in a previous SG update, the publication party for Kathryn's new novel, "Dark Passages," loosely based on her own early-1960s experiences living in NYC, working as a a Bunny at the Playboy Club – and then being cast in DS.

"A publication party for Kathryn's supernatural thriller novel "Dark Passages" will be held August 7 at Diesel Bookstore in Santa Monica (Brentwood), CA.

Reflecting Kathryn's (Maggie) own DS ties, it's a story set in the early 1960s about a popular hit TV soap opera. A young woman actress, who's actually a telekinetic vampire raised to resist human blood, joins the series' cast. She finds herself confronted by "her nemesis, a beautiful spell-weaving 300-year-old witch bent on destroying her." The 2 also vie for "the affections of a handsome young mortal with a secret life of his own."

The publication party will be at 3:00 on 8-7 at Diesel - A Bookstore in Brentwood, located in the Brentwood Country Mart, 225 26th St., Santa Monica, CA. 90402. 310-576-9960.
