i thought dixie was dead too...

digressing back to the subject of nudity i'd really rather not see "my" soap stars in the buff either. it's not that kind of onscreen relationship. something about it makes me uncomfortable. [snow_undecided]

interesting comment about the "constraints" of traditional broadcast television...

i know nothing about the format these series are being presented in but does that imply a "stronger" content perhaps than what can be seen on an ordinary network afternoon soap opera?

meaning more intense language, violence, and storyline? nudity or sexual content? the sort of things than are seen on cable series? curious.

unless i'm wrong don't they need permission to use the likeness of a living actor? doesn't that actor receive some sort of royalty for that use?

for that reason i thought they could use the likenesses of joan, louis, grayson and other deceased actors in these. they did not need permission and didn't have to pay out royalties.

vicki!

i stopped buying these with issue 4. but if she's back i'm going to have to give them another look.

is she drawn in the likeness of alexandra or is she a reinterpretation of some sort?

i thought that salve regina college currently occupied the house...

is that not correct? why are people carrying on as if it is abandoned? and given the house's history as the exterior location for DS wouldn't claims that it was "haunted" have emerged decades ago? i've never heard a peep about that until very recently. [snow_rolleyes]

like the depp film the 91 series created a few composite characters...

91 willie loomis also appeared to be a sort of blending of OS willie, matthew morgan and harry johnson. because the jason mcquire plot is being eliminated in updated retellings(and thus willie's association with him)the way that willie is being brought into the story seems to be along the lines of a matthew mogan.

a curmudgeonly caretaker who is already an established part of the household when the story begins. for whatever reason "comic relief" seems to have been thrust upon this character in the retellings more than the others and he's also been turned into a drunk. [snow_huh]

does this have anything to do with that event that kathy cody and sharon smyth lenz are doing out at seaview in may?

it's some sort of "ghost hunt" type thing i believe with a bunch of people from syfy.

indeed there is a huge continuity gaffe with vicki and barnabas arriving at collinsport on the same day. a scene, or scenes, appear to be missing and as you suggest may have ended up on the cutting room floor...

in the scene under discussion here david comes down to dinner in his pajamas. implying the family dines quite late. carolyn is sent to her room. and the next scene is vicki, in her nightgown, unpacking her suitcase before receiving the "he's coming" visitation from josette and being lead through what seems like a house at rest. all of this would imply it's quite late in the evening at this point...

then we cut to barnabas' release...and his scene in collinsport implies it's early evening. more so when he arrives at collinwood carolyn and david are dressed and downstairs, liz is wearing different clothes, and it appears to be an entirely different night.

granted in a fantastical scenario such as this one can't take things too literally but it's a big error in continuity. [snow_rolleyes]

there were certain things that appeared in prerelease material that ended up having absolutely nothing to do with what ended up being in the actual film...

one being this thing about liz being "reclusive" or not having "left collinwood in ten years". nothing that actually took place within the narrative even hinted at that.

we clearly see that "angie" and liz know each other when she comes to collinwood after barnabas' release. and there are multiple shots of liz in collinsport and at the cannery without the slightest bit of exposition of it being unusual for her to leave the estate.

as the story ended up playing out it would have served no purpose for liz to be this recluse so somewhere along the lines this was taken out of the scripts entirely.

I'm with you on that, dom. I never quite warmed up to either incarnation of Todd Manning. I've find it inconceivable that a character could morph from a convicted rapist to antihero to romantic lead. Let alone that Mattel seriously considered marketing a Todd Manning doll at one point.

rehabilitating formerly very nasty characters, once they become fan favorites, into much more sympathetic ones and even romantic leads is a soap opera standard. currently two of Y&R's most popular characters...michael baldwin and phyllis summers...were a rapist and a murderer once upon a time and now they're beloved by the series' fans.

and certainly in terms of DS you couldn't ask for two nastier pieces of work than barnabas and quentin...murderers both...when those characters were first introduced. and look at what happened with them...

dolls, lunchboxes, bubble gum cards and board games for those former sociopaths and psychos. so todd manning's role reversal's not "inconceivable" at all if you think about it.

every time i randomly turn on a soap it features actors/characters from other current or former soaps. it's like the soap world is imploding and it's participants are clinging for dear life...

one of the last times i watched Y&R genie francis was playing a character whose name i didn't catch. then last week i saw her as laura on GH. is she playing both soaps?

i don't know that i'll catch these revivals but i'm pleased that these actors can get back to work.

this introductory dining room scene is one of my favorite in the film. which is interesting since it's before either barnabas or angelique show up...

and i also love that julia has the absolute nerve to call the woman who's house she's been living in(no doubt free of charge and amply supplied with booze)a "bitch". i agree the look on liz's face was priceless. i liked liz's ensemble and hairdo alot in this scene as well. very "regal".

makes one wonder what julia and liz's relationship was really like.

sorry it's all lost in the haze of this endless saga...

can you believe we're closing in on a YEAR since it's release! [snow_shocked]
