I suppose we'll never really know what hideous combination it was of the directors asking davis to act in the broad and loud "DS style" and his own personal brand of belligerence...

but the combined result was almost always loathsome. [easter_rolleyes]

look out...

Bradford is by far his most tolerable characterization. avoid ned stuart at all costs. [easter_rolleyes]

does no one learn...

so now we're back to a "trailer" featuring the camp/comedic aspects of the film??? teen werewolves and flying green puke?

isn't that what turned so many people off in the first place? that definitely wouldn't make me want to see the film. [easter_rolleyes]

I seem to recall one particularly ultraphantasmagoric episode with three female characters...Angelique, Eve and Vicki.

ang and eve have some sort of bickering match in their diaphanous chiffon sugar-plum-fairy-from-hell getups outside Collinwood. cut to a scene with Vicki, in her usual Ohrbach's sleeveless number, and Jeff(again, bickering)and in her normalcy(Alexandra, incidentally, nearing her end on the series and turning in a blander than usual performance)almost seems like a character from another series. or planet.

it was a strange period on the series. [easter_undecided]

770
this was exactly the period when I started watching GH...in fourth grade mind you.

I was enthralled by the bitchy tracy. she always had these great French braided 70's hairstyles happening. and nothing said luxury in the 1970's like her sunken living room.

if I recall in this room her father had(or faked)a heart attack and tracy just stood there and watched. [easter_evil]

the slender moore appears to be playing margaret white in the piper laurie tradition...

I never read the king book but, yes, I would have assumed the carrie character would have been somewhat "homely". so it's interesting that yet again a thin and pretty actress is cast in the part.

as I recall from my own high school days girls that looked like moretz usually got all the cash and prizes. [easter_rolleyes]

Personally, I'm completely against any kind of "fun" or "enjoyment."

Anywhere.  At any time.

Even accidentally.

 [snow_smileydevil]

my remarks were directed at certain details of a fan convention. not at any individual(s)at this board...

so while your attempts at sarcasm and mockery are certainly admirable directing them at me isn't really necessary.

but enjoy your little event.

773
no there's nothing "terrible" about this event...

and there is nothing "terrible" about asking normal, legitimate questions about it or expressing an opinion. this is a message board after all.

774
I really think i'm the only person to bring it up...

my main complaint in the last couple years is that the gatherings have either been scaled back, changed in format or broken up into lots of little mini events with a fractured guest list. even the "official" event, the cruise, I believe only has 3 or 4 confirmed guests. the traditional fest had over a dozen most years.

I have limited time and money to spend on this enterprise. id rather have one cohesive, full scale event each year than a bunch of broken up ones with random guest lists.

but that's just my take on it. most fans seem pleased with this event.

775
pierson seems like he runs a tight ship. i'm just surprised he's cool with this.

it might be a "win-win" for the fans indeed but from a business point of view is in direct competition with the official "fest". I'm sure lots of fans who were on the fence about the cruise have opted out because there is another full scale fan gathering attended by members of the cast.

the fest is not an informal fan gathering or a charity event but a business enterprise that needs to remain commercially viable for it to continue. so again i'm surprised TPTB are going for this.

from a money making point of view the 1991 series is virtually worthless. it's just twelve episodes on a one dvd collection. I picked it up for fourteen dollars. meanwhile the OS is an endless cash cow at 1200+ episodes. so from start to finish I've probably spent thousands of dollars at mpi. so while I can see TPTB allowing a fan gathering for the 1991 series, which receives virtually no recognition at all in the traditional fest setting, i'm surprised the OS has been merged with this event.

776
i'm not trying to stir the pot but I do have another question about this event...

what kind of permission is needed, and from whom, to hold a formal event under the DS banner? I would have thought jim pierson and "the fest" had all the rights surrounding it. I mean this isn't just some fans going to someone's house and watching some dvds.

it sounds like a full fledged, for-profit(although some funds are going to the Lyndhurst charity)event that functions almost as "competition" to the official fest gathering. granted with this year's format being a cruise lots of fans have been priced out but if it was an ordinary hotel bound fest would this event be allowed to take place?

doesn't the fest have the rights to screen the series and films? the actors are being advertised using the character's names. who owns the rights to those names? isn't there different ownerships between the OS and the 91 version?

i'm just curious as to how this event was granted the rights to all of this?

777
Being one of the Friends of 91 DS organizers:  I assure you, Michael C., this is neither "Hodgepodge" or a "Total Mess" .  The "B" actors you refered to are generously contributing their time and talents on behalf of charity for Lyndhurst Estates.  You are correct, we attempted this last year but all participants schedules were full.  I suggest you find out about the event before slamming it.  Any questions can be sent to friendsof91ds@comcast.net.

right or wrong i think we all know who the "golden trinity" of the DS cast is. it's not my assessment but that of fandom in general. the guest list does not include the principles of either series. hence the "b" remark. but i'll not debate it further...

i guess my only other "question" would be as to why monica rich(kosann)is still being listed as a guest? not only is she not attending but, until i mentioned it to her, had actually never even heard of it...

hate to burst any bubbles but she actually thinks "we" are a bit odd. [snow_strange]

778
if I recall they tried to do this last year minus the OS castmembers but it never got off the ground...

maybe with the divisive "cruise" they saw an opportunity to gather fans who usually attend the fest but would not be this year because of the new and expensive format. who knows how the OS cast got involved?

to me it looks like a random hodgepodge of people and a total mess.

779
a few thoughts about this little "event"...

for starters the company i work for distributes monica rich kosann's fine jewelry and home decor. she has an in store shop and i see her every day. when i read about this event on FB today she's the first person i asked about it as she's supposedly a guest. as it turns out she knows absolutely nothing about it whatsoever. she actually seemed quite stunned and displeased that her name is being used as part of the advertising for an event she knows nothing of. so that is certainly something to ponder...

also this seems like the beginning of some sort of break up of the festival situation. what's going on with all of these conflicting events with different invited guests in different cities at different times? the OS guest list for this little affair is, if you'll forgive me, somewhat "B" list. it looks like marie is attending several of the different happenings but is this some sour grapes i'll-show-you from those not attending the increasingly divisive CRUISE? a certain actress who has been EXTREMELY vocal in her displeasure at not being invited on said cruise is actively promoting this although she has not(yet)been listed as a guest.

the language being used by various participants involved in "this" event versus "that" event is becoming rather competitive and side-picking.

the whole thing is getting weird. [snow_strange]

i only saw this for the first time several months ago...

i was pleasantly surprised at grayson's prominence. i had always believed she was little more than a bit player(hence the fact i hadn't seen it until recently)but she's almost the fourth lead. i think she actually gets more screentime than sue lyon who was top billed with burton, gardner and kerr.
