somewhat OT but according to some of the FB pages Karlen has recently been hospitalized and is in very poor health.

just an FYI.

i'm surprised it's not shown as a fest oddity and is not a fest offering from MPI. the well is pretty dry and they certainly have a captive audience always looking for new material.

i recall the old ads at the end of the VHS tapes advertising it heavily. i regret not getting it now as it doesn't appear to have been available on DVD or is part of MPI's current offerings.

for some reason i thought it had been made AFTER DS had left the air. not during it's run. i assumed it was post-DS work for Louis and Thayer.

glad you enjoyed it!

Did KLS give away merchandise at her book signings for Return to Collinwood?

now that you mention it that does sound familiar. before the film was even released i attended one of her signings in New York. there was some sort of "goodie bag" that came with the purchase of the book. i got a poster at that event. maybe this was part of the swag? i really can't imagine where else it came from.

this morning i was up early doing Saturday laundry/chores and found, buried deep on the bottom of a dresser drawer, a black DS 2012 T-shirt with an image of BarnaDepp and the film tagline "Strange is Relative"...

for the life of me i have no idea where this came from. i certainly never bought it. it was never a festival offering (where the film is largely ignored). this has to have been a giveaway somewhere. but where??? i saw the movie opening day but don't recall any promotional giveaways.

does anyone else have this? WHERE did it come from?  [easter_huh]

such memories...

remember different houses often tuned into a specific network's soap lineup? ours was an "ABC house". from 'Ryan's Hope' at 12:30 through 'Edge of Night' at 4 o'clock you could soap out all afternoon.

those were the days.  [easter_kiss]

like i said i think a big part of Harry's introduction was just so Vicki would register "shock" when she first saw him. being that she wasted his 1795 counterpart. beyond that i don't know if there was ever some larger story outline...

and like with Tony Peterson, who similarly ran afoul with the new tempo in 68, the character quickly outlived their usefulness. aside from the immediate Collins family an ever changing cast of monsters became the name of the game.

in 1795 we saw Vicki express 'shock' when she first encountered each new character that resembled someone she knew in "the present". in 1968 we saw the reverse. when the 1795 actors first appeared in their new guise she had the same reaction. the introductory scenes were written for momentary "shock value".

and indeed Harry was first introduced as an early-Willie-Loomis type figure. a sleazebag. a con artist. a  drifter.

but the character was dead on arrival. as the "monster of the week" format began to take root in early 68 ordinary lowlifes were passe and Harry was instantly obsolete. he drifted around the periphery for a few months before fading into oblivion without explanation never to be mentioned again.

via the trusty Almanac David appeared in 225 episodes and Karlen in 180. not sure about the individual character breakdown.

it's worth noting David had a fair episode count as Matthew Morgan before Karlen joined the series in 1967. thus during the time the two actors overlapped it would seem they appeared in roughly the same number of episodes.

suffice to say Jonathan and Grayson hit the highest totals in the 5-600 episode range. the rest of the "main" cast (Joan. Nancy. Alexandra. Louis. Kathryn. David) are all in the 3-400 counts.

given Angelique's importance in the story Parker appears in a surprisingly low 269. but that's accounted for via the character's habit of "disappearing" for extended periods of time only to "pop up" later in some different guise. she was never an ordinary day-to-day character.

needless to say it's one of my favorite credits...

i seem to recall it first appearing during the Leviathan period. i feel like i saw it across the antique shop set a lot. and it certainly continued into the summer when "Miss Scott" and a few others threw themselves into the then-raging mini/midi/maxi debate with gusto (apparently Joan did not approve).

thanks, G. i saw this on FB and thought about you.

not clearly recalling something you watched almost 50 years ago is one thing. it's be be expected. he simply could have written a fond "remembrance"...

but then publishing a series synopsis that insanely innaccurate is just stupid. did he falsely "remember" all those innaccurate plot details? or did he skim wikis and other questionable sources to summarize?

those details don't even square with the 1991 or 2013 iterations of the story which could cloud one's recollections. it's just gibberish.

and in terms of the "car" in the 1795 sequence since the show was filmed on an interior set that's not even within the bounds of possibilities. the whole thing is complete nonsense.
