I remember many women (and girls) wearing those types of outfits and hairstyles back in '72.  It was the Marcia-Brady-look.

the black pantsuit??? the black skirtsuit??? the blue bustier ensemble??? the red sequined gown??? the black dress seen in today's slideshow??? sorry G but nothing Angelique wore in the film remotely resembles anything Marcia Brady ever wore.

I found it odd that they made a really big point of setting the piece in 1972 and then the costumer did absolutely nothing to reflect that in "angie's" wardrobe and hairstyles...

everything she wore in the film could easily be worn today and look perfectly current. [hall_huh]

shatner's remarks(though meant as a joke)certainly strike a chord in this situation...

if nothing else this has the cast the DS fanbase in an unflattering light. [hall_rolleyes]

not a can of worms. just off topic...

the point is the schism within the fanbase is real and unpleasant. the delivery system..."fazebook", this site or any other online message board...is sort of irrelevant.

unfortunately the situation is not just one of "respecting one's opinions"...

it's gone beyond that. a line has been drawn in the proverbial sand. one is either "for" or "against" the darn thing. there's no gray area.

it's not just a question of "opinion" but overall tone within the fanbase. a sourness. a discontent. a lack of unity or cohesion. the whole thing feels unpleasant.

because registration at this board has been disabled for years, well before the film was released if i'm correct, we've been spared a lot of the hysteria because it's a self contained group and the malcontents have largely been kept at a distance. but the film has really upended the entire community in a permanent way. the subject of the film came up yesterday over on one of the FB boards to yet again the usual wails of discontent. it was a "travesty". it made a "mockery" of the series. blah. blah. blah...

I really have to say this here at this board we exist in something of a deluded isolation bubble in terms of the film. the moderators liked it. as did several of the more active posters. so we've been lulled into the false impression that fans have gradually cottoned to it's offbeat sensibility. that's there's been an overall softening up towards it after the initial wave of outrage and hostility.

but that's really not accurate. from what I've seen elsewhere most "fans" still despise it with a passion bordering on a mania. the lynch mob mentality is still out in force. to even suggest you might have enjoyed it is to instantly find oneself on the defensive.

and even here we've seen that several prominent members, some who've posted here for over a decade with great enthusiasm, have hit the highway. i'm afraid that the film has created an irrevocable schism within the fanbase that's never going to be healed.

I know nothing of cross other than his work on DS 91...

is he some sort of sci-fi, b-movie cult figure?

I have to say that a lot of the film's stabs at humor fell flat...

but calling Angelique "Angie" was actually pretty inspired.

even after multiple viewings i'm still confused by Vicki's attitude towards Barnabas in the fire scene above and her actions the next time we see her.

[spoiler]she appears to be under a spell(Angelique? Josette?)as she heads towards widows hill. but her final move seems to be of her own volition.[/spoiler]

Is there a context for today's capture and quote?  I'm completely blanking on this part of the movie.

when barnabas arrives at "angie's" office there is a decanter of blood on the conference table. he asks her who's blood it is before, if I recall, drinking a glass from it.

as the film ended up it didn't make much difference to the overall narrative that Roger departed when he did...

immediately afterwards it careens towards it's explosive and overstuffed climactic scenes and Roger's presence or lack thereof really wouldn't have made much of a difference.

JLM's roger certainly seemed like a louche creep but as the film was edited it didn't really explain why Barnabas despised him so much. it's not like he didn't have bigger fish to fry. [hall_huh]

still his performance was a lot of fun and definitely added to the film's trippy atmosphere.

i'm not sure what this means but I just read that an AMC actor named Thorsten Kaye who was apparently a key player has defected to 'the bold and the beautiful'...

the pivotal role of "Ridge Forrester" has been recast as the actor who originated the part since the series' premier departed.

i'm not following this little saga too much but since ABC is the one that decided to cancel these series what on earth use do they have for those characters? why do they care?

ABC should just get out of this and focus on it's own programming.

the timing of the dream is odd too...

I haven't actively been viewing the series in a couple of years. I honestly cannot recall the last time I popped a DVD in. and certainly not the 1968 period.

viewing the depp film has really been my only recent activity around the series so it's funny I would have a dream specifically about that period and those actors at this point. [hall_rolleyes]

once I had a dream where black-and-white Laura and Carolyn(not Diana and Nancy, mind you)just hovered in the background as mute witnesses to whatever else was happening in the dream of which I remember nothing.

after spending hundreds of hours with these characters they really permeate one's subconscious in a way other television characters do not.
