after several months of Angelique in the diaphanous whites and golden curls of the "vampire period" I recall finding the sight of "Cassandra" stepping out of the shadows in her black wig and green coat in this episode rather odd...

and in general this was one of the nuttier episodes of an already extremely weird period on the show. [snow_shocked]

"too intense"? compared to what???

compared to the insanity I've witnesses at other boards(relentless trolling, grown men weeping and threatening suicide over a movie)this board's a cake walk. [snow_huh]

I've always found that it was jerry lacy's mustache-twirling performance as reverend trask in 1795 that officially "launched" the broad and cartoonish DS "style"...

but powell's turn as dr.lang certainly took it to the nth degree. [snow_rolleyes]

the writers seemed to throw clairvoyance or "second sight" at a character pretty randomly, and then just as quickly take it away, if it served a particular plot at a given point...

David had it through 1967. in 1968 Vicki suddenly developed a hitherto unknown "deep psychic connection" with Barnabas. Carolyn abruptly becomes Collinwood's resident "clairvoyant" sometime in 1969/70. I feel like other characters had it on and off too.

my point was not about changing history...

[spoiler]it was simply that after 1897 the family carried on like Quentin was an ordinary member of the family who had always been around. and he wasn't.[/spoiler]

in that was very, very sloppy writing.

what always annoyed/infuriated me in the aftermath of 1897 was...

[spoiler]while everyone did remember the Quentin hauntings of 68/69, and David and Amy were terrified the first time they saw Quentin(aka 'Grant Douglas')at the antique shop, within a couple months they carried on as if Quentin was an ordinary, everday member of the family who had always been around. it was very, very sloppy and inconsistent writing.[/spoiler] [snow_mad]

I still think it had something to do with that fountain pen.

thanks.

I've only watched 1897 all the way through once many years ago and it was so cacophonous I forget the exact progression and a lot of the details of it.

really???

I always thought it was originally supposed to be Quentin...and not Trask...who's skeleton is found in the closed off wing of the house. [snow_huh]

remember on the OS after 1795, when monsters abruptly became the main characters, Vicki and David never shared another scene again except maybe one or two when the Quentin storyline was launched...

that what Vicki and David's relationship reminded me of in the film. Vicki coming to Collinwood under the premise of becoming David's governess was just the setup for getting her into the story and a nod to OS mythology. but regardless of scenes cut or not cut I don't think that relationship was ever intended to be heavily developed in the film. it decidedly was not "about that".
