I don't mean the franchise is going down the drain...

just the amount of time and effort to copy and package 1225 sequential episodes for a relatively small market, most of whom already own other iterations of the series, seems like more trouble than it's worth.

this set was a highly niched product to begin with.

yeah the effort needed to counterfeit this particular series and boxed set seems like way more trouble than it's worth.

under the best of circumstances I don't think DS is currently a goldmine for anyone except perhaps MPI and even that's questionable.

indeed this is starting to get a bit off topic but there was a particular scene where Magda reads Laura's tarot cards that was quite delicious.

incidentally he must have been a rather busy character actor of the period. I caught him in a few episodes of 'Peyton Place' as a divorce attorney for Betty Anderson(Barbara Parkins).

like some of the other early characters Guthrie did have a whiff of the late 1950s. or at least the early 60s. a suit and crew cut type. and worlds away from characters like Jeb and Bruno of just four years later.

I liked him. he made a great adversary for Laura and their cat-and-mouse scenes are some of my favorites. perhaps in a perfect world Mrs. Roger Collins would have gone toe-to-toe with a certain lady doctor from windcliff sanitarium. a fictitious match up that has always intrigued my imagination with possibilities.

but since that was not to be Dr. Guthrie was more than serviceable. like Bill Malloy an early but quite memorable character for me and a distinctive part of a favorite storyline.

even at the height of my DS mania I wouldn't have paid anything close to 60 bucks for a picture of anybody in the cast. [snow_rolleyes]

577
and the reason anybody would pay $60.00 for a (unautographed) of abe vigoda is? [snow_huh] [snow_huh] [snow_huh]

and what's he doing at 'chiller'? I thought that was horror stuff.

578
there's another of this type on one of the DS boards who, no matter how many times he' been corrected, insists that Liz is Victoria's mother because he "read it" in 'shadows on the wall'. [snow_rolleyes]

579
what's funny is on some of the FB boards a chorus of know-it-alls(who, as usual, know nothing)are insisting that Ira Levin's' original novel was set in Paris, Roman Polanski "moved" it to New York for his filmed version of the story, and now this is "returning" it to it's original location...

whatever. [snow_rolleyes]

kind of a brief "teaser". what is anyone supposed to take away from that???

I had forgotten all about Thomas McDonald...

definitely one of the odder things to come out of the Depp film. it was so weird how he ended up being cut and this third, even younger Barnabas, sort of came out of the woodwork right before the film's release. incidentally if there was supposed to be a "teenage Barnabas" at some point I wonder if there was supposed to have been a "teenage Angelique" or a "teenage Josette" for him to play off of? we certainly never heard about that piece of casting?

Current Talk '24 I / Re: WB ORDERS FILMING OF NEW DS PILOT
« on: March 22, 2014, 09:02:36 PM »
this came up on another board and I forgot what happened exactly but didn't Dan Curtis end up abandoning this project at some point even before the pilot was finished being filmed?

what was it? I seem to recall the whole enterprise ending on something of a sour note.

as I recall this was when Joel Crothers left to do 'the secret storm'. so perhaps his storyline was wrapped up quickly?

like the rest of the original cast his role had been deteriorating across 1968 so maybe he just wanted out. I always felt very bad by this development. the breakdown of Joe and Maggie's relationship was one of the series' great "human" tragedies.

thanks...

I guess that would include the various 'slideshow' topics and all the threads on the depp/burton film. now it makes much more sense. [snow_bigglass]

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / question on stats
« on: March 16, 2014, 01:04:46 PM »
this morning I happened to look at my forum stats...

in the "most popular board by posts" section it listed 'current talk 2014I' as my most active board with 489 posts...

that cannot be accurate. I know I have not posted nearly 500 times in 2 months. that number is about a quarter of my total posts in my entire decade at the board. and I used to post a lot more than I do these days. how are those totals being calculated? [snow_huh]
