was lisa under contract or "recurring"?

she was on(and off)the show for about a year is that correct?

getting a bit off-topic but I was always sort of disappointed terry crawford never appeared as a "present time" character. she's the only major female player we never got to see in "modern" clothing.

True about the Boys cast with two exceptions: Peter White, who was on All My Children for years, and Laurence Luckinbill, who was a successful character actor.
DS might have broken the jinx for Keith, but I guess it didn't.

yes. strangely enough two of the few actors in the film who were actually heterosexual managed to carve out moderately successful careers...

connection? who knows?  [easter_undecided]

and really...

to this minute the mere suggestion that a *certain* DS actor "might" have been gay is enough to send some fans into a tailspin of denial or an apoplectic rage.

some things don't change. [easter_lipsrsealed]

on the 'boys in the band' DVD extras they interview the surviving members of the cast...

all the guys involved knew they were taking a considerable risk doing the movie(and to a lesser extent the play)and were potentially committing career suicide. the "subject" was still far too controversial at the time and associating oneself so strongly with a gay situation was a gamble. frankly I've always been sort of surprised Prentice was hired on DS given his time in 'boys'. for a daytime soap, and in particular one with a strong adolescent following, it was a potentially risky move.

unfortunately those predictions largely turned out to be accurate. none of the talented cast went on to have the careers they should have had. still, they were pioneers in a landmark film so it's a tradeoff.

apparently Prentice's handsome mug graced the 'taster's choice' coffee jar for many years. I seem to recall that from my childhood.

sad another member of our "community" has died. was he ever at a fest or in any way involved in the fandom?

the "leviathan brats" were a distinctive, if at times slightly annoying, component of the period. and maitland lent his variation of the character appropriate menace.

Current Talk '14 I / Re: PT 1970

I didn't particularly care for the "Jekyll and Hyde" component of the period. and wished "main cast" was around a bit more...

but otherwise 1970PT was my favorite of the "late" storylines and an all around favorite as well. I really loved the overall "atmosphere" of the period. the "normalcy" and formality of the day to day atmosphere at Collinwood. it certainly had the ghostly elements of the series in general but it wasn't about a bunch of monsters running around. it was sort of a darkly dystopian dysfunctional upper class family that was in a way slightly evocative of the early days of the series.

Lara was given a great pair of roles to play. great "supporting" work by Elizabeth Eis and Paula Laurence. a stupendous performance by Grayson as the diabolical, blood chilling "Hoffman". even the "heightened reality" of the setting and costuming with it's brighter-than-usual palette lent it distinctiveness...

I even appreciate the highly derivative, almost verbatim retelling of the "Rebecca" story.

overall a great storyline.

as things turned out, and since Alexandra was not interesting in returning at any time, when Betsy Durkin's Victoria disappeared into the ether that really should have been the end of it...

the additional recast, and certainly the plot development under discussion here, really didn't add anything to the story.

apart from finding this an unjust fate I always thought it was extremely strange writing to essentially "kill off" a character who had already long departed...

just in terms of dramatic impact it made little sense to say nothing of being completely disconnected from the entirety of the storyline. [easter_rolleyes]

Current Talk '14 I / Re: Getting a DS "fix"
« on: April 27, 2014, 12:20:13 PM »
I haven't actively watched in about 3 or 4 years. after finishing the series and then all the who-ha over the movie I felt like a needed a break from the whole thing...

however a friend recently started the series on hulu and is really enjoying it. since the hulu run(naturally)starts with the episode 210 release of barnabas I explained the whole first year and character backstories to him and talking about it made me nostalgic.

I'm considering some sort of rewatch but I don't watch random episodes willy nilly. I like to watch a storyline from beginning to end. when I'm "in" a storyline I'm in it. like reading a book. so I'm trying to make that decision.

has "anyone watched it"?? ?? ?? ?? ??

yes. everyone at this board has watched it. some many, many times.

that's what this board is about. [easter_huh]

my god. that looks absolutely DREADFUL.

WAY worse that I could have imagined it.

568
especially when that counterfeit coffin set can be found so cheaply. [easter_evil]

569
these days you can't give VHS away. let alone sell it. the word "mint" doesn't really attach value to such antiquated technology.

a couple years ago I sold the last of my DS tapes to a vintage book/record/video store in Brooklyn for a dollar each and was glad to get it. you can find them in the bin at thrift stores for 50 cents.

as I recall there are only five episode per tape versus forty on a DVD collection. when a brand new DVD collection can be had for around forty bucks why would anybody pay a similar price the same number of episodes on bulky old VHS?

if this lady wants to unload this stuff she needs to get realistic and come down(WAY down)on price.

although like most other counterfeit goods these are likely produced under the most godforsaken conditions on earth...

so perhaps there is a small profit for the few at the top of the chain. [easter_undecided]
