i don't want to get too naughty, but nathan married millicent for her money.he must have married suki for other reasons.i can imagine a rather "steamy" relationship between them.thier scenes had some "sexual tension" :-*

josette, i liked the clothing alot too.the 1795 fashions combined with 1967 make-up and hairdo's was quite memorable.i love that vicki was allowed to maintain that lustrous "do" rather than adapt to the modest "bun" a real servant would have worn during the period.but as i said before it's strange they didn't don "mourning" black after the deaths began.of nathan and millicent, since they were not really critical to the telling of the story,my impression is that the actors were contracted players and the writers needed to create parts for them.as for vicki and peter, so far i don't care for r.davis.i think a.moltke had great chemistry with mitch ryan(see ep.1).

i havn't seen the other time-travel stories in thier entirety yet.i too think 1795 starts off with a bang but drags on too long.nathan/millicent and vicki/peter are pretty dull.but i think the story redeems itself in it's final few eps., like naomi's suicide is so sad and i liked b's revenge on nathan.it was strange how daniel didn't even show up until late in the story and then carried on as if vicki had been his governess for years(i can't recall a scene between them until after vicki leaves collinwood).in my post-1795 viewings i just saw the ep. where vicki and barnabas get into the car crash.i watched it over and again because the two of them in this cheesy fake car was just too good! ::)

this is going to be a long one.i just completed the task of viewing the 1795 story in it's entirety on vid.i have a few(probably asked before)qustions.for starters, victoria was not just a passive observer but an active participant in the events of that year, barnabas knew her.so why didn't he recognize her when he arrived in 1967?when phyllis wick first appears at the 67 seance she was on her way to collinwood for the first time(in 95).but when time returns to the present barnabas knows her.how could he if she never arrived at collinwood in 1795?in 1795 real time, who was sara's governess, phyllis or vicki?let's not forget that while "time stood still" at present day collinwood, the story actually began in 67 but ended in 68(oops!).in 1795 josette thought vicki to be a witch,so why did she often protect her in the future and communicate through her at several seances?was maggie evans josette reincarnated or did she only resemble her?why did millicent, daniel and the countess dupres stay on months after the wedding was canceled?why was suki staying at collinwood?with the house constantly "in mourning" why did the ladies continue to wear colorful, lively costumes instead of black?and in future generations, did no one think it odd that nearly the entire family dies within a few months of each other?i'm sure i'll think of more. ::)

Current Talk '04 I / Re: Dr. Woodard and others

i only know that the actor who played the eagle hill cemetery caretaker was replaced for refusing to cross the same picket line.when both the re-cast actors appear together in an ep. where
dr. woodard confronts the caretaker about barnabas collins it lacks impact because these were not the actors we were used to.for that reason also i think the ep. where barnabas and julia kill dr. woodard would have been better with r.geringer because he and g.hall had played so many scenes together,
it was hard to get emotionaly involved with an actor who only appered in a couple eps.

i just saw that scene recently, and thought it was great.frid and blackburn were the consumate proffesionals, and a scene that might have been corny with lesser actors really worked with these two.

i agree with josette, the scene where barnabas tells carolyn and vicki the story of josette collins is mesmerizing.i also love the scenes when vicki is trapped at b's house during a storm.he so wants to take her blood but cannot(these are some great vicki/willie scenes too).in 1795, the scene when ben tells him why angelique started the curse is great,as is his scene with a dying naomi.but my favorites are his scenes with grayson hall.thier chemistry is awsome.

yes, david ford/sam evans was not treated fairly once the show went supernatural.i also think clarice blackburn/mrs.johnson went highly underused as well. :(

i know this was a popular fashion in the late 1960's,but sometimes carolyn and maggie wear sleeves.but vicki is always in sleeveless.i recall one ep. where liz tried the look and it was pure gooseflesh.also, vicki has really nice hair, but in some eps. she looks like she's wearing a "fall". :P

today's montage reminded me of something.why is vicki always in sleeveless? since "orbach's" supplied the clothing, why couldn't they have outfitted thier heroine in more diverse styles?it's almost always the same few dresses.my favorite vicki dress is the red a-line with purple stripes down the front and on the(gasp!)sleeves,to be worn with matching bow(of course). :-*

it could have lasted longer if they had paced it more thoughtfully and introduced new supernatural elements more gradually or eliminated some altogether.a strange thing happened after 1795,they realized the supernatural stuff improved the show's ratings,so they threw everything out there they possibly could.vamires, werewolves, witches, frankenstein, zombies in just a couple years.after 1795,they could have gone on for months with cassandra alone, like the laura story, rather than toss in the adam/eve stuff right away.it would have created more suspense.but at the rate it went they left themselves with nowhere else to go and it burned itself out.

the last time i remember seeing the diner set was shortly after maggie was first bitten by barnabas.does the diner set ever appear in the color eps. or did it disappear?  btw,the ep.2 scene iof carolyn gyrating at the blue whale is priceless.

and what a party it was!the "costume party" scenes were among the weirdest ever on d.s..they were so awkward and contrived.even before the seance started they just sat there in their overblown period costmes and stared at each other.barnabas could give mary tyler moore a run for her money in the "bad party" sweepstakes. ::)
