jen, cassandra's greens might have been "pukey" but they were as freshly minted as a penny.but at this point in the show it's annoying to see vicki in dresses worn when bill malloy was alive! i guess she was supposed to be a low-paid governess with limited wardrobe funds.but since belief was suspended on every other level, and a major store supplied the cloths, i wish they could have given the dear girl a fresh look once in awhile. ::)

i'm sorry to keep bringing this up,but the show's costuming has me up in arms! tonight, cassandra wears a boxy, swingy mint and apple green striped cape over matching apple green dress, accessorized with white kid gloves(and,of course,a black wig).julia, a finely tailored gray suit with a large, flat bow across the front.vicki? the same stupid pink sleeveless dress, this time worn with a bright blue cardigan and, inexplicably,a big, clunky brooch pinned onto the front of it.why?i also noticed that vicki and cassandra share a fondness for insanely voluminous orange chiffon sleepwear. ::)

last night i "met" cassandra collins for the first time(on video).i hadn't seen any eps. with her before and i must say she really worked me! i liked her alot more than angelique, whom i didn't particularly care for.when cassandra walked into collinwood with that black wig, boxy mint green car coat and white kid gloves i thought i'd scream! :-*

"rosemary's baby" is in the pantheon of my favorite three films ever, along with "who's afraid of virginia wolf" and "all about eve".
since you mention it, the film factored slightly in alexandra moltke's decision to leave the show.i found at the flea-market a book called the "dark shadows tribute" written by e.gross and j.van hise and published in 1990 by pioneer books inc.they interviewed ms.moltke for the book and when the subject of her departure was brought up she had this to say "....i was pregnant, and i had some very heavy things to do;...and i wasn't having an easy time with my pregnancy.so i had to get out, legally, from my contract, because they didn't seem to want to let me out.as a matter of fact, "rosemary's baby" had just come out at that time, and i was terrified that they'd want to keep me all the way through!" i'm sure she must have said that in jest, but the connections are there.

connie, how could you forget david's hostile reaction to vicki when she first came to collinwood?as another poster pointed out,
david lured vicki to a closed-off section of the house with the full intention of leaving her there until she died!
he was really nasty in those days.

the best is a scene where vicki is in her room dressing for a date with burke.julia drops by and helps vicki decide what to wear.on her bed are two dresses to choose from(as opposed to the orange sleeveless she already has on).they select(surprise!)the periwinkle blue sleeveless she wears all the time.
carolyn, the spoiled rich girl, gets better cloths.i just watched an ep. where carolyn shows up in full equestrien gear, riding crop and all!which was funny since there was never mention of stables being on the collinwood grounds.
even maggie gets kickier cloths.a great look is shortly after she leaves wyndcliff.she sits around the cottage, arms folded, sulking because she can't leave.and she's wearing an outrageous "warhol" flower-print quilted maxi-skirt.it's too good! ::)

Current Talk '04 I / victoria in 1897?
« on: June 21, 2004, 01:12:07 AM »
alexandra moltke left d.s. only a few months before the 1897 story began, and shortly afterwards victoria was written out permanantly.but if she had stayed with the show, as a contracted player, the writers would have had to come up with a character for her in 1897.who would she have played?could she have been an evil character?or would they simply send "vicki" back in time like they did with 1795?

What ever Richard Garner 'took care of' at his office was enough to satisfy Liz.  Richard turned around and assigned Vicki to his son Frank knowing that there were no loose ends to get in the way in Bangor and nothing would be stumbled upon accidently. Also, a nice way for the writers to set up the potential romance between Vicki and Frank.
and what became of mr. frank garner?during the laura collins story he helped vicki find clues to the mystery surrounding laura.in one ep. he accompanies joe and dr.guthrie to eagle hill cemetery to dig up the graves of laura's ancestors.they discover the bodies have disapeared.then frank does his own disapearing act.after this ep. the character is never seen again. ::)

this is a bit of-topic, but with all this talk about liz and roger's parentage and/or offspring i thought about their mother.does anyone know anything about her?was she ever mentioned on the show?
also, i've always heard that the idea that vicki might be liz's daughter did not even come up until the show was being cast.when alexandra showed up for her audition it was noted how strongly she resembled joan bennett.but it was not part of the original plotting.

Current Talk '04 I / Re: The Story of Josette
« on: June 19, 2004, 05:16:55 PM »
I just finished watching ep 345, where Barnabas tells Julia the story of Josette at the top of Widow's Hill.  It's markedly different than what plays out in the 1795 Flashback.  Barnabas tells Julia that his first meeting with Josette was when she came to live at Collinwood as the young new wife of his middle aged Uncle Jeremiah, and how with the passage of years grew discontented with being married to a much older man.  Obviously, this played out very differently in the Flashback.  How many differing versions of Josette's story are there?
this ep. was filmed only a few weeks before the flashback began,so it's weird that they changed the story so much.there was also supposed to have been some signifigance to the fact that jeremiah resembled burke devlin that ultimately never played out.another totally different version of josette's story is the one barnabas tells carolyn and vicki on that stormy night shortly after his arrival at collinwood.

Apologies for the "off topicness" but what exactly were Maggies qualifications for governess?

i don't know what maggie's qualifications were but the producers must have loved the "bargain" they were getting with this bit of casting.they could replace vicki without having to hire a new actress, with kls they got two roles for the price of one. ;)

just two more cents...when d.s.began vicki was about 20 years old and liz was in her mid-to-late 50's.so liz would not have been some confused "girl" who couldn't handle the situation at the time vicki was born.she would have been well into her 30's and probably found a better way to deal with it than send the baby to a foundling home. :P

just my two-cents,but i thought vicki was the daughter of betty hanscome and perhaps paul stoddard.i just can't imagine liz sending her own child away to be raised in a orphanage.by sending for vicki perhaps she was trying to "do right" by her missing husband.btw,at the fest last year i bought a copy of the photo that the portait of b.hanscome was copied from.the dealer told me it was a publicity still of alexandra c.1966.
