Current Talk '04 II / on david collins

a thought about david collins...the poor lad had a pheonix for a mother,a witch for a stepmother,a vampire for a cousin,a grandious alchoholic who may or may not have been his father(remember burke and laura), and two seriously foxy hairpiece wearing governesses who disappeared under unusual circumstances.what is david up to today? :P

dr. guthrie was good.his cat and mouse with laura especially.did anyone notice that the footage of dr. guthrie driving his car to the seance and it's subsequent crash was the same footage used when david caused roger's car to crash?you can even see bits of roger driving the car. ::)

while willie was at wyndcliff who was treating him?julia was running around doing her own thing.what prevented willie from remembering everything about barnabas and julia and spilling the beans on the whole thing?they were oddly blase' about willie the whole time he was there.also, does anyone know why john karlen was the only present-day actor not included in 1795?

i liked maggie and joe alot too.they had a sweet chemistry together.i never thought about the two of them reuniting at wyndcliff.but on the off-topic-subject of wyndcliff...julia runs the hospital, but after she moves into collinwood(forever)who's minding the shop?also, does anyone ever receive benificial treatement there?does anyone ever get better?or is it simply a depository for characters leaving the show whom the writers don't want to "kill-off" permanantly. :P

andre dupres was not an essential character in 1795.i get the impression that they wanted to include everyone from the present so you could see the "shock" on vicki's face when she encountered them for the first time.i think i said in an earlier post that the scene between abigail and barnabas when she discovers him rising from his coffin is great in part because of ms.blackburn's acting.i liked both her and ford during the 1966 laura story, he has 1 or 2 priceless scenes with diana millay.

I gonna post this here since, it's somewhat related.  I was just musing this morening on the mysterious Burke Devlin.  I know he was killed off in a plane crash near oh, what what the name of that city in Brazil? ;) ;D  But why?  To weed out some of the cast?  The viewers weren't taking to the Vicki Burke romance and/or Anthony George? To facilitate the progression of the Barnabas/Vicki/Josette plot?
i believe the name of the city was belam ;).i've heard that anthony george wanted out of the show.also,it's sad to say that perhaps burke no longer served a purpose on the show.remember,he was originally the show's bad-ass,but when b. arrived the collins family had a new menace and the show went in a different direction.the barnabas/burke/vicki triangle was good but only could have lasted so long.but burke's body wasn't identified at the crash site so perhaps the writers were leaving an opening for him to  return at some point that never played out.

this is my little lara parker story.when i attended the fest last year(my first) i had not yet seen any of lara's storylines.i was watching at the time the barnabas/maggie kidnapping stuff.at the autograph signing lara was seated next to nancy barrett.i got nancy's autograph(she was adorable still) and then when i moved on to lara i told her that i hadn't gotten to her part on the show yet but would still love her autograph.i didn't see how she could possibly take offense to this but she gave me a death glare that would have made cassandra proud.and then very coldly her autograph. :o

thanks guys...i'm forever torn about the show.while i love alot of the supernatural elements the show introduces during it's run i will forever wonder what would have become of our lovely three had their lives continued on a normal path. :-*

as i said i would, i watched episode 1 (and 2)tonight.i hadn't seen them for a long time.i forgot how cooly regal liz was.and how cool the exterior shots were.but as i watched vicki and carolyn and maggie in these eps. i found myself saddened.to see these beautiful young girls, full of hopes and dreams for themselves, and to know that they basically become nothing but put-upon victims for whatever monster-of-the-week the show's writer's threw out there later in the show's run, i found it sad. :'(
i must appologize for this maudlin post.i worked myself into a champagne-induced state of sentimentality.i hope i didn't "bring down" the mood on d.s.'s b-day. ::)

you're right about julia's cloths.although everyone makes fun of "the green suit" her cloths do look expensive and chic.i love that she still wore gloves in the late 1960's, a time when the "hippie look" was tossing such ladylike conventions out.and with her short hairdo julia looked "smart".so far i like cassandra's cloths.green suits her with that black hair.and after i ranted the other night i was rewarded with a new look for vicki! she appears in a long sleeved black dress.i was delighted. :P

another poster told me something strange.she told me that at fests lara parker claims to have no recollection of the character cassandra.i found that to be very odd. ???
