Current Talk '04 II / Re: Barnabas--Love and Lust list
« on: August 07, 2004, 06:11:53 PM »
vicki brought out the tender, human side of barnabas.josette was his great love but i think he was fond of vicki like no one else.
it doesn't seem like he ever really "loved" maggie.he abducted her because she resembled josette but was cruel to her from the start.there was never affection, only manipulation, between them.then he loses iterest in her entirely.
his feelings towards julia changed almost overnight.just before the 1795 story he was about to kill her.when they return to the present she becomes his friend and confidant during the dr.lang/adam story.i don't think he returns the feelings julia has for him but relies on her as a confidant.

Current Talk '04 II / plague in collinsport?
« on: August 06, 2004, 01:47:22 AM »
i just read a book about,of all things, the history of rats in new york city.in a chapter about the connection between rats and plague it states that the first case of plague in the united states was in san francisco's chinatown in 1900.
if plague hadn't struck the u.s. until 1900,then why was everybody in collinsport, maine in 1795 worried about barnabas collins having contracted it? ???

another great moment...when vicki gets caught in a storm and is forced to spend the night in josette's room at the old house...when she's asleep barnabas comes into the room and gazes at her longingly...but he cannot bring himself to take her blood.it sums up the complexity of b's character.

that was a great episode...i loved it when carolyn got petulant...but liz put her in her place :P.and let's not forget what vicki saw during this drunken revelry :-X.
i too have heard that barrett and ford only had a few scenes together...which is wierd since they were on the show together for two years.but i guess carolyn didn't often mix with the town riff-raff ::).did millicent and andres' ever appear together?

i just thought of another one...when liz confronts laura at the cottage.laura vows that if she decides to take david "no power on earth" would stop her.when liz asks her what she means laura warns her that she'll find out and that she'll be very sorry she tried to interfere with her plans.when liz gets back to collinwood she finds out laura doesn't make idle threats. :o

don't you remember...sarah warned carolyn and david that someone was going to die...they heard it in the music...no one would cause it and no one could stop it...then vicki heard the wailing of the widows...it gave me chills!

yeah, when eagle hill first appears during the laura collins story it was supposed to be a remote, barely used cemetery.it later becomes a catch-all for anyone who has ever died in collinsport.
whatever became of that swank "collins family cemetery"? ::)

Current Talk '04 II / favorite "moment"
« on: August 01, 2004, 05:26:39 PM »
what is your favorite d.s."moment"?the moment on the show that really gave you goosebumps?mine is the seance that led to the 1795 story.i watched it again friday night.there are so many layers to it.the hostility between barnabas and julia is intense.then the business with barnabas and carolyn dirty-dealing the whole thing, with carolyn pretending to go into the trance and speak for sarah.then dear vicki, who was uninvolved in all the trickery, goes into the trance and is sent back in time.those few minutes are my favorite "moment".

p.s. some of you may have already answered this question on another board. ;)

just in the context of d.s.'s five year run you can see how greatly fashions changed during the tumultuous years that it ran during.in the 1966 eps.,we're still seeing the leftovers of the early 60's "jackie kennedy styles"...boxy shifts and coats, gloves, and stiff "flip" hairdos.by the end of the show's run in 1971 the hair is long and straight and center-parted.the fashions looser and more influenced by certain "hippie-styles"(except on older characters like liz and julia). :-*

i'm not sure about the picture...but the "farewell" to joe haskell in todays montage was sad.why did joel crothers leave d.s.?at this point in the show alexandra had just left.mitch ryan was long gone.i wonder if it was sad for the original cast members to see their co-stars leaving the show.
