here's a question for computer dummies like me.the site frequently suggests "clearing one's browser cache" as it does with the halloween graphics.what does that mean?i know this will sound dumb but i have no idea. ???

they sort of did the same thing with the 1966 laura collins story(which in a way was even stranger).laura told the story of the "pheonix",she was living in "pheonix,az",and showed up in 100 year cycles(just like a "pheonix").but no one ever came out and said that laura was a pheonix.maybe they were trying to make the viewers use their imaginations.

they seem to use the phrases "undead" or "the living dead" alot."vampire" doesn't come up alot at least in the earlier part of b's story(even as victims with bite marks on their necks start popping up left and right).
i want to rewatch the first ep. where julia confronts barnabas with her knowledge of his "condition" and see if the word comes up.

Current Talk '04 II / Re: Voice Over at Beginning of DS eps

in one of the k.l.s books she states that dan curtis made the switch from always using alexandra for the voiceover(even if she wasn't in the episode)to using an actor from that episode was in part out of frugality(not having to pay alex if she wasn't in the ep.).but that says a strange thing about how contracted actors were paid on the show.were they paid on a per-episode basis?i thought most contracted actors were paid a "salary" which was always consistent.maybe dan c. ran a different type of operation.
nancy barrett spoke the first non-alex voiceover.i remember it distinctly.alexandra did the most:387.johnathan only did 12!there is kind of a funny hodge-podge of actors who only did 1 including sheriff paterson himself vince o'brian.

Current Talk '04 II / Re: Using Footage of Joan Bennett's Movies on DS

they have been running "father of the bride" alot on cable lately.it stars spencer tracy, elizabeth taylor and of course joan bennett.i think it was made in the early 1950's so even though joan is much younger than she was on d.s. as soon as she opens her mouth all i hear is "liz".i've never heard of "the secret beyond the door" but it sounds cool.i'll look for it.it would have been awsome if they had used some of joan's old movie clips in the 1949 flashback.i was slightly disappointed by it because they didn't do much to make liz look "40's".she sort of looked like she always did.i would have liked to see a snood and some major shoulder pads. :P

kinky :o?i said kicky!i also found the scene to be somewhat poignant.it had a "normalcy" to it that harkened back to the show's earlier days(despite vicki's reason for being there).just two girls talking.it re-established the freindship between maggie and vicki.things like this get lost as the show becomes so heavily focused on monsters.i too wish there were more scenes of the girls just hanging out.some of the male characters steal the show's thunder but i like the "girls" best. :-*

to clarify i hope it didn't sound like i was being critical of k.l.s.'s performance of josette which i really liked.i just meant that the writers never fully "fleshed her out" as a real live woman.

I don't personally care if you liked her performance or not. You should say how you feel (within limits as this board is of course monitored). I think KLS was uneven and almost housewifey and ordinary when she was trying to act adult Josette. Her earlier scenes as insecure Josette were my favorites.
that was strangely rude stefan.i just didn't want it to seem like i was insulting an actress alot of people on this board really like.

Current Talk '04 II / maggie's pad

tonight i watched the episode where vicki was taking sanctuary at the evan's cottage...i don't want to "spoil" anything so let's just say she was hiding from you-know-who who was trying to make her have the you-know-what.during all this drama there is a scene in which vicki and maggie sit on the bed and discuss their dreams and boyfriends and whatnot and the whole thing had a girlish, slumber party feel to it.

so what if things worked out differently???what if vicki permanantly moved into maggie's house and "commuted" over to collinwood to care for david?what if maggie and vicki set up a kicky "girl's only" clubhouse?it had that feel.i can see them sprucing-up the place with avacado plants and toss pillows and beanbag chairs.carolyn could "drop-in" to hang with her mini-skirted sisters.they like julia and elizabeth, but really, they are like so "squaresville". ::) ::) ::)

...the things that one thinks about. :-*

as always fabulous...thanks DStoDA for providing fun for all of us who love the show...i don't know the web address but there is a funny site called "d.s.stick-figure theater" that does goofy little plays using the characters heads on stickfigures.look for it,it's funny. :P

i think that perhaps alot of fans(and barnabas himself)like the "idea" of josette more than the character(as played by k.l.s.)itself.the character of josette was only on the show for about three months during the 1795 story and even there was a rather naive woman whom quickly became the object of a witch's wrath and became a victim rather than a fully realized character.we don't learn much about her.
after the barnabas intro the "human" characters(esp. the women)don't get alot of character development but they sure do become the objects of supernatural shenanigans.the exception to this of course is julia.
josette has an enormous presence on the show considering how long she was actually at collinwood(in life).

before the laura story josette makes a few spectral appearances at the old house...and without giving too much away she gets vicki out of quite a mess just before the laura story starts when she becomes a more important(if ghostly)presence.but the character is never seen in the "flesh" until k.l.s. shows up as her in 1795.
