Current Talk '04 II / Re: Sally's Shadowy Secrets - Episodes 118-127

nice work again sally.i remember finding these episodes with matthew holding vicki captive to be very supensful and even a little unsettling.

and i knew i was in for something wild the minute laura walked into the coffee shop.as i recall she was smartly attired in a hat and gloves!even before the whole "pheonix" thing gets going she's just so strange you can't take your eyes off her.

these are all very good points.roger's ability to go into a state of brandy-induced denial is remarkable.but at this period in the show he was under cassandra's spell so maybe that was part of it...to keep him from growing suspsious of her and of the increasingly bizzare atmosphere at collinwood.

and i too wish vicki had found what she was looking for.it's sad that that part of the story gets dropped. :(

i had forgotten that vicki had taken the position sight unseen.she was such a trusting girl.
after 1795 i noticed that vicki spends little if any time at all tutoring david.she's so distracted by dream curses and boyfriends from other centuries who has time to do the job one was hired to do.she's sort of just "there" at collinwood.the same thing happens with julia.she was there under the pretense of writing a book but that sort of just gets dropped and she just lives there for no real reason. ::)

i'll have to go back and check out the grilled cheese episode. ::)

i just watched the end of the "dream curse".when julia and willie are trying to figure out what to do they both use the "v" word several times.i was sort of surprised,i kept expecting them to phrase it something like "return to the way he was" or something equally vague.

after vicki returns from 1795 her memories of it are confused but she does believe that she was indeed there.everyone else thinks that's impossible but she perseveres.during brandy and a fireside chat with nicholas roger informs him that vicki is an "odd girl" with a "bizzare and vivid imagination".she "behaves strangely" and indulges in "the most curious of fantasies".
of course "we" know her beliefs to be true but roger does not.wouldn't that make her a mentally disturbed young woman in his view?and why would he allow her to care for his child? ::) ::) ::)

sally...these were the very first episodes that i ever saw of d.s. and i was instantly hooked.it must have been about five years ago during a time when sci-fi ran the show at 11:00pm.then they switched to a morning time slot and i had to start ordering it on video because i was at work.i remember carolyn going on about how her impromptu "date" with burke had been "the best night of her life" which is odd when you consider what they actually did.it was strange too that business with the seaweed never coming up again when liz and roger must have understood it's signifigance.i'm glad you're enjoying them, when i'm finally finished with the show's run i might re-watch these episodes again.

i thought that perhaps the strong pilot for "d.h." would be followed by a weaker second ep. but last night's ep. totally got me hooked.one thing that disturbed me however was that abc is starting to do annoying tie-ins with the show already(week two!).there are tie-ins with oprah and g.m.a..i'd hate for it to suffer from "twin peaks" syndrome and burn-out quickly on all the hype.

anywho,not d.s.ish but i thought one more mention ::).

i caught the second opening sequence late last night and it's awsome too!thanks DStoDA, i think you have all the present day characters covered.i loved that you even included laura and burke. :P

on the real "the young & the restless" there are several opening sequences because there are so many characters(at least 4).i too missed elizabeth and victoria in this one but it was so good i didn't really care.it must be hard including everone's favorites.

i just checked it out and it's genius as always.i used to watch y & r and that song was perfect.where did you get those sketches  DStoDA?
my favorite promo is the 1967 one.

Current Talk '04 II / when do you "watch"?
« on: October 09, 2004, 04:08:47 AM »
does anyone have any d.s. "viewing rituals"?
i like to watch it during the weekend.i get one or two (vid)volumes a month and watch the whole thing like it's a movie.even if the mail delivers it on monday i'll "save it" for a little treat over the weekend.during the week i'm too busy to really "take-it-all-in" and enjoy it. :P

what happened to all those great soaps from the 1960's and 70's?there are so few on today.i guess the daytime t.v. demographic has changed.so few housewives.i would love to see "the secret storm",it had so many d.s. actors.
