connie,i know where you're coming from.for a long time i had a swooning love affair with the show...but anyone who reads my posts knows that i've been rather "down" on the show for the last few months because i detest the storyline i'm now viewing and sometimes don't watch for weeks.but just when i think i can't take it anymore there comes a gem out of nowhere and i'm hooked all over again.the adam story runs concurrently with the "dream curse" and while the "dream" itself is the cheesiest thing ever there are moments during the story that knocked me out.the scene just after victoria finally tells barnabas the dream comes to mind...i think alot of you know how julia reacts when cassandra feigns concern over vicki.when i saw it(after rewinding about 15 times)i im'd another fan and we talked about it for half an hour. ;)

that said,if you're over it don't worry.it's only a t.v. show.while d.s. is my current infatuation who knows?in five years i might look back on all this and think "what was i thinking"?but i even if i stop actively watching these characters will always be important to me on some level. :-*

i agree that 1795 was for the most part very concise(although nathan/millicent got clunky at times).it's very involving from the start.but the barnabas and josette relationship isn't as well fleshed out as it could have been for the enormous build-up it's given on the show.it's only a couple of episodes before ang takes over.i guess we're supposed to imagine that their romance took off in martinique and their marriage was supposed to be a culmination of a great love affair.

the 1897 story is extremely long!at the snail's pace i've been watching this thing it will take me a year to get through it! :o

yes,the age differences in 1795 were mind-boggling!no on can convince me that barnabas and sarah could have realistically been siblings.and naomi was too old to have a child sarah's age.

i'm glad that 1897 is spoken so highly of...it's the next major story i have yet to watch.is it as good as 1795(which lately i've been thinking about alot)?one of the main reasons i'm looking foreward to it is the return of laura collins whom i loved from 1966.i'm trying to do the math ahead of time and for the life of me can't figure out how either laura or angelique show-up in that year(don't tell me!).i'm also looking forward to a new character for joan bennett(whom is given a weak part in the story i'm now watching...adam).

my only reservation about watching it is that it will be the first story without my sweet vic...i know i'll miss her. :'(

will the book be available at regular bookstores?i had to order my diana millay book "the power of halloween" online.when i met her at the fest and had her autograph it she told me that barnes and noble keeps "selling out" of it...now why do i doubt that somehow? ::)

remember just before the dr.lang story began...barnabas and vicki were going to "go away" together and there was talk of a ship due to set sail before sunrise.but where was he going to "go"?he couldn't be away from the old house cellar at this point in the show(no dirt seen).and he required julia or willie(or someone)to look out for him during the day but neither were involved in this plan. ???

but which buriel site contained b.'s "sacred ground"?the museleum or the old house?

other than this show i know almost nothing about vampire lore(believe it or not).

Luciaphil's Idle Thoughts '04 / Re: The Vivarin Girl - Episodes 3 & 4
« on: November 16, 2004, 01:28:28 AM »
i love reading these luciaphil!you're right about vic's sleep ensemble...in the pajama's and slippers and robe and fall she must have been pretty toasty(especially since the show premiered in june).speaking of june...since it was dark when vicki arrived in collinsport(in june) it had to have been at least 8:00...so with all the mischief she gets into has to be the longest night in the show's history(at least four episodes).althought the 1795 seance was a marathon evening as well.the two-floor evan's cottage does look big considering how it's seen from the inside(one measly bedroom...did sam crash on the couch?).carolyn's early attitude toward her uncle definitely has an"ick factor".pre-josette kls has a whole different "feel"...i wonder how the character would have been developed if b. never showed up at the diner?roger is so creepy here...the implication being that he was trying to break into vicki's room for a little "action".yuck.thanks again luciaphil! :-*

i think vicki's feelings for burke were very strong...the both spent the first year trying to deny them for various reasons but when the finally got together it felt right(unfortunately the actor had changed).she had a few scenes after he "went missing" that were quite moving.

but because of the whole time-travel element in her relationship with peter/jeff it's supposed to have all of this additional signifigance and plays-out as totally over-wrought.and the chemistry between alexandra and roger was off.

when vicki was with burke i sort of felt she was "safe" somehow.like someone strong was looking after her.when he disappears you really sense that she's at loose ends in the world...and look what happens to her.jeff can't get it together to help himself, let alone anyone else. ::)

good points guys...it's so weird how burke's name is never mentioned again after the seance, but then again neither is sarah's and of course the whole point of the seance was to contact her ::).

i've never seen AMERICA ON THE RERUN,but it's sad that alexandra didn't enjoy her work on the show...but if i were her at some point i guess i would have gotten frustrated too(working with r.d....yuck.and the direction her character had taken by late 1968).but she shouldn't have let it affect her performance. ::)

what did d.millay say about d.henesey in this book???it's odd that an adult actress would go "on record" with dish about a child actor.
