every story "highlights" certain characters...i haven't seen the show all the way through but the actresses i can see as "lead" are alexandra, joan, grayson, lara and kathryn(appolagies to nancy).

harder will be "lead" actor...since we all know who was "top dog" here...mitch ryan for the first year and david selby later but otherwise everyone else "supported" jonathan frid. [tngb]

i'm very intrigued...and love the advertising.is miss victoria winters a "presenter" or a "nominee"?

who's gown will she wear? i see vicki in a classy but conservative look...maybe oscar de la renta.nothing too risque'.and a tasteful scattering of dark-toned jewels would play off her black hair beautifully. [tngb]

genius!thanks for the screen caps.i thought i might have to go digging though my tapes to find this particular episode...but this says it all.i can feel the rage. [angryf]

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / a very minor question

the new board looks great...but i've had one odd thing happen lately.in the "current talk" section, the little icon of collinwood that means there are new posts is always lit-up(as opposed to black when there are no new posts).is that just me?

and mysterious...you lost part of your "quote"(fog that can...).

emerald,i know EXACTLY the look you're refering to.it was beyond!even liz commented on it. [angryf]

again luciaphil, awsome read.i would love to watch these episodes again but i leant my "collector's series vol/2" to a co-worker who as they say in the human recources dept. has "left the company".i might have to order it again if i really get the yen.

i reading this chapter and the previous one i was pleasently reminded of vicki's all-day phone call at the inn.the show's first two weeks covered less than a twenty-four hour period!the mail in collinsport must have been delivered at a speedy rate since vicki recieved her first letter less than a day after she left new york.and didn't mrs."at a very fair rate of pay"hopewell tell vicki how much she was missed once she got her on the phone(again, next day)?
maggie was so saucy!everyone was sooo mean to vicki!and as has been pointed out, carolyn was not the most ambitious of girls in terms of schooling or occupation....what would she have done with herself if her "home-situation" hadn't drastically changed a few months down the road? [vampy]

o.k. claude, just a few more and then i'll stop.i would imagine our fellow members are having a hard time breathing by now...they've been laughing so hard for two days!

"what did barnabas order for lunch on september 23?he ordered lobster claws and let them bite him."
"is barnabas a fashion designer?he is.and all of his fashions have low necklines."
"who is barnabas' favorite comedienne?phillis chiller."

that's it!

Yeah, the jokes in that book are pretty lame.  ::)  But, hey, it was the '60s - a much more innocent time. Who knows what sort of jokes they might have put out today?  [chkyg]

it's true...the 1960's were a more innocent time.and the book seems to have been marketed at kids.

but claude...how could you ever pick a favorite?there are so many gems.how about "you should hear barnabas talk about gore vidal.he says he'd like to drain gore of his vidality".

alot of the "jokes" aren't even specific to b...they could be "re-cycled" vampire jokes from anywhere. [8371]

i found at the flea maket a book called "barnabas collins in a funny vein".it asks one to "dig the groovy new humor craze that's sweeping the country...inspired by t.v.'s cool ghoul, barnabas collins...america's favorite pain in the neck".it's filled with the un-funniest jokes imaginable.

a good example..."what does barnabas eat for breakfast???ghost-toasties".i almost fell off my chair i laughed so hard! [a2a3]

sally,i hope you enjoy the rest of this story...it's one of my all-time favorites.didn't you love laura's early scenes at the diner with maggie?i think at one point she light's up a cigarrette right at the counter(but she doesn't eat a bite).times have certainly changed since one could do that.
diana millay was pregnant during it's filming and as you watch further watch her outfits get blowsier to cover up her "condition". [a2a3]

p.s.i just had to try one of the new smilies.love it!

a "funny" thing happened this morning...i went to check my e-mails and,as i often do out of habit, take a peek at the forum.then something unexpected happened.instead of my usual welcome screen the "guest" welcome screen popped-up.i had somehow logged myself out(which i never do).
momentarily startled i knew i just needed to log in again.no big deal.then came the time to type in my password and i realized i couldn't remember it at all...i hadn't used it in several months.i stay logged in.
confused(this was early morning after all) i tried to conjure up the long forgotten password to no avail.i thought to click the "forget password" option which would just e-mail me a new one.then i remembered that for awhile the forum was unable to generate new passwords.was i going to get locked out?!?
a current of low-level panic ran through my blood.what would i do?where would i go to discuss governesses?seances?sleeveless dresses?i was about to e-mail midnite.and all this drama before i even had my first cup of coffee.
then the long forgotten phrase began to visualize itself to me...and with sweaty palms typed the letters in.i breathed a hearty sigh of relief when my own welcome screen popped-up and the morning was as good as new! [santa_tongue]

anyhow...it's funny how we react when our little routines are thrown out of whack. [santa_rolleyes]

just another little thought on vicki and jeff.because the show's earlier pacing was different, when vicki was dating burke we actually saw them "date"(lots of drinks at the blue whale).we saw them do somewhat normal things together sometimes(despite the early drama) and a relationship develop.

obviously things worked out different with peter/jeff...but we never once see a "normal" scene between the two of them.just them talking or spending time together...it's just all of this overwrought hysteria.we don't really see why they even liked each other. :P

Luciaphil's Idle Thoughts '05 / Re: Employee Loyalty -- Episodes 5 & 6
« on: November 27, 2004, 11:26:46 PM »
The more you remind me of what the original episodes were like, the less I can comprehend the failure to "catch on" with a significant audience sooner than it did.

And the more we see of the original character of Victoria, the more infuriating it is to recall the simpering idiot to which she was reduced, before she vanished.

i've said this before too...i can't understand why THIS show as opposed to what it became(essentially a different show with the same cast)didn't find it's own audience.imagine what dreck it's afternoon competition was in 1967(when b. was introduced).it had too have been more interesting.
and early victoria was so good too(although i always like her).it's hard to believe just two years later she was being held hostage by an artificial monster ::).

anyhow...thanks again luciaphil...these make a great read!i love the fashion comentary.vicki's p.j.'s and slippers combo is way more practical than the billowing orange chiffon number she later wears for wandering through the woods and nocturnal visitations from you-know-who(but why is she wearing a fall to bed!?!).and hemlines certainly rose quickly from the knee-length frocks we see here to the mini's of a year or so later(although the show's costuming was so cheap that they just shortened alot of the same dresses rather than buy new ones) ::).
carolyn ironing was priceless...and that kitchen set was awsome too.i love that funky greenhouse area with all the fake palms and such.it's too bad they eliminate that set.funny,it disappears around the same time that the diner set does.when the show becomes so heavily focused on the supernatural mundane chores like eating food(as oppsed to drinking blood)fall by the wayside ::).
