it is interesting that they never did use a wishing well as part of a story.they included just about every other gothic cliche'...locked rooms in dank basements,crypts,closed-off wings of decaying mansions.a wishing well could have made an interesting storyline.

Current Talk '05 I / secret agent vicki
« on: February 27, 2005, 05:55:54 AM »
today i caught an old re-run of "mcmillan and wife" that featured actress barbara feldon.best known to many as the aloof, miniskirted agent 99 on "get smart".
i was struck by how ms.feldon resembled alexandra moltke.totally gorgeous,high cheekbones,super-lustrous brunette hair(in the first season ms.feldon sported a very mod-ish,very peggy-moffitish five-point-cut.later she adopts a very vicki-ish "do":the front pulled back,the back falling in a lush cascade).
so i was wondering if "agent 99" might not have been a fine replacement as vicki when alexandra left the show?thoughts? :P

thanks for the thoughts guys.monday was cold and gray and besides doing my laundry coming up with this d.s.equation was as fun as it got. :P

i like your handle penny.i've often thought that "penny wise" would make a cute name for someone.perhaps a very bookish drag queen(done up in very dr.hoffman-ish tweeds).

in a few of the marilyn ross novels that's exactly what happens.the closed-off portion of the house is self contained with it's own entrance.liz allows the various characters that populate these novels(but never appear on the show)to stay there.i forget if she charged them rent.

and wasn't this the part of the house that liz offered to vicki and burke(before burke's untimely disappearance)?

Current Talk '05 I / dark shadows 2016

i had some unstructured time on my hands this morning ::).so i did a little d.s.math.
now d.s. was a daily show that originally aired 1225 episodes over a five year period.now what if it had been a weekly prime-time show instead.there are about 23 episodes in a prime-time t.v. show's season.so what if they tried to cover the same area story-wise and produce the same number of episodes?dark shadows would have been on the air in first-runs until the year 2016!

let's take a look.season one.twenty three episodes.story-wise this would have brought us to the car crash/bleeder valve business.and a quick reference to luciaphil's idle thoughts reminds us that at this point in the show we were on day three.three days covered in a year-long season!
barnabas would not have been released from his coffin for nine years!the seance that led to the year 1795 would not have taken place until 1981.now if we think 18th century fashion as seen through the late 60's was weird think of it seen through the early 80's(a new-wave influence?).victoria would have been on the show until 1993.we would now be viewing episode 900-ish.early leviathan stuff.

there were a few re-casts on the show but can you imagine this scenario?as actors aged and moved on to "greener pastures" they'd have to be replaced.would they characters constantly be re-cast to maintain the age they were originally or would they have been allowed to age in real time?would jeb hawkes be dating a sixty-something carolyn?could barnabas still turn into a bat in his eighties?would davis still require a governess in his fifties?

like i said i had some unstructured time. ::)

i love the "ohrbachs" ad too.it makes julia look like a paper doll with her own set of outfits.i think the royal blue version would have looked good on liz.

3148
unfortunatley they didn't seem to want to develop the julia character outside of barnabas.at first she opposes what b's up to,then she becomes his complete ally.but always within his context.

for heaven's sake she didn't even have her own house. :P

Current Talk '05 I / Re: The Collinsport Circus
« on: February 20, 2005, 03:16:45 AM »
elizabeth would be in charge of this flea-bitten operation but i see julia as the ringleader.barnabas is,of coarse, the magician.vicki is the girl he puts in a box and saws in half.carolyn would be the tight-rope walker(she did it all the time).maggie is the girl who stands in front of a board and has knifes thrown at her.angelique is the knife thrower.laura is the fire swallower.jason and willie are the clowns that pop out from that tiny car.mrs.johnson sells hot dogs.roger sells beer.professor stokes dresses like a gypsy and reads your future.

and jeff clark can clean-up all the elephant p**p.

am i sort of confusing "circus" and "carnival"? [jester]

love it!!! :P
