collinsport would probably be one of those second-rate resort towns that dot the maine coast.lobster shacks,shabby-chic b&b's and gift shops pedaling scrimshaws,ships-in-bottles and blueberry preserves.

but perhaps collinwood is the town's gimmick:"come see the haunted house!".they could give guided tours to tourists, groups of seniors and school children.someone loosely connected with all the activity there could serve as tourguide(harry johnson?).it would all be a somewhat tawdry and threadbare opperation. Current Talk '05 II / Re: Most Evil Woman of ANY Century?

i agree gothick that i was intrigued by this strange character too.i hated this part of the storyline but leona's few scenes mezmerized me.her delivery was so strange and flat.it also amused me that they decked out the "most evil woman of the 18th century" in this really bland and middle-class ohrbach's ensemble(complete with chiffon scarf of course).

like suki forbes ms.eltridge was one of those two or three episode characters that stayed with me. [hall2_rolleyes]

that's interesting gothick.
i didn't know that the reason that rachel disappears from the storyline was that kls requested time off.does that mean that the kitty hampshire character was not originally part of the story but hastily written in when kls wanted to return?i wonder why they didn't just bring rachel back rather than creating a different character?does anyone know why joan bennett disapppears for several weeks/months as well?

navigating the 'robservations' has been a mystery to me since day one.
for instance i just did what mysterious recommended to find the robservation for ep.849.i entered 'episode 849' in the search box and a link to the robservation popped up.then i tried episode one and episode 200 and the link didn't pop up but several links to different robservations that simply included those numbers somewhere but not the episode itself.other times i've gotten the reply "no matches found" or something to that effect.

couldn't a box be set up where one just enters the episode number and the robservation for that number episode pops up(same for the 'idle thoughts')?

Oops sorry mice-brook,  ::)  I just didn't check the gender choice for you. Sometimes I do, but so often they have been left blank I have stopped looking.

no worries...it's really kind of funny. [offtheair]

Current Talk '05 II / Re: random 1897 comments ...
« on: October 05, 2005, 12:57:36 AM »
i just started to watch the storyline so these are my random comments thus far...

so far i'm really enjoying the story for the most part.for me it's a bit like a new beginning.i always watched the show with vicki as my focus character and this is really the first storyline that she is squarely not a part of.while i'm not quite as emotionally involved i have a new objectivity and that's not a bad thing.i can enjoy it or not on it's own terms.

so far i'm liking the mix of the supernatural and more "human" storylines(edith's will, jenny, worthington hall).i like that joan bennett has a great part to play in judith collins.she has such chemistry with david selby.they have a few "come into my parlour said the spider to the fly" moments that are priceless.i can see why mr.selby became such a hit with viewers.he's tremendously charasmatic.i love jenny and feel that marie wallace brought pathos and a smidgen of sweetness to a character that could easily have been a standard-issue psycho.and what can i say about the return of laura collins?her 1966 story was and is a personal favorite and seeing her again is great.especially her scenes with joan and louis edmonds...seems like old times in a way.

my only apprehension with it is that it lasts so long.i'm only about forty episodes into it and it's much longer than that.it's thus far been pretty tight but it sounds like the middle/end gets a bit all-over-the-place and that's where my patience with the show can wear thin.time will tell. :P

oh my god!

i'm having a major gender identity crisis!

has everyone been going under the assumption that i'm a girl?let's take a look.

my avatar is of a girl.i spend alot of time going on about the fashions and hairdos from the show.i often comment on how cute characters like joe haskell are.i wonder how anyone got that impression? ;)

but yes,i am a boy.i assume that the mods know this fact.i don't know if i want to laugh or cry over this. ::)

b.t.w. i guess when i pronounce my handle to myself it's "mice-brooke".

Current Talk '05 II / barnabas and rachel drummond
« on: October 01, 2005, 08:51:32 PM »
i am currently watching the early-ish part of the 1897 storline.

here we have barnbas and rachel drummond striking up a friendship and possibly a romance.now i don't know about you but i find this pairing of jonathan frid and kathryn leigh scott to be quite disturbing considering the cruel, dehumanizing way barnabas treated maggie evans when he was first released in 1967.i simply cannot get past those images.they're burned into my memory bank.as late as the eve plotline barnabas was willing to sacrafice maggie to the experiment.

for some reason the pairing of barnabas and josette during the 1795 story didn't bother me because it was essentially a "prequal" with much of the action taking place before anelique placed barnabas under the curse.
but the 1897 barnabas lived through his actions in 1967 so his relationship with maggie was much more recent then that with josette.there is no "innocence" there.i simply can't romance any pairing of these two after 1795.

on a similar note i'm finding rachel to be a rather insipid character.i prefer a spunkier kls.her inguenue routine doesn't work for me.perhaps i'd like the character more if she'd been played by you-know-who.with so many interesting female characters populating this part of the story(judith, beth, jenny, laura and angelique)rachel kind of bores me. you're so right gothick...i remember being particularly delighted by that lush salt and pepper tweed dr.hoffman wore in this episode.i don't recall ever seeing it before this episode or after so i wonder if it was ms. hall's own?

i didn't think this merrited it's own thread but another of today's episodes(no.69)featured some high points as well.i remember mrs.johnson going on about believing in signs and omens and giving a really overwrought but awsome performance here. :P

carolyn:"uncle roger if you really want to get vicki on your side why not 'treat' her to a greasy diner breakfast and then a tour of a fish cannery."

roger:"that is so genius kitten!i don't know why i didn't think of it."

vicki's refusal to tell barnabas the dream was supposed to be indicative of the goodness and integrity intrinsic to the character.it was great to see at a time when the character was otherwise rather wishy-washy.

towards the end of the storyline there is a genius scene between vicki and cassandra!cassandra is trying to get barnabas and vicki together so that the dream curse may continue.after telling vicki a fib about barnabas looking for her vic(who is by now on to cassangelique)let's loose with quite a little tirade along the lines of "you're a liar...and you're evil and selfish and wicked...i'll die before i tell barnabas the dream!".cass is all mistress-of-the-manor "i beg your pardon?" and "how dare you?!".

great spunk from vicki and a cool scene all around. :P

Current Talk '05 II / Re: A Twist on the Old Favorite Character
« on: September 27, 2005, 01:13:19 AM »
patti,

early on you have strong male characters like burke devlin,dr.woodard, jason mcquire, bill malloy, sam evans and joe haskell.but after the barnabas character takes off the real human male characters are either killed-off or relegated to the sidelines.then you get characters like adam,nicholas,tom/chris jennings, quentin and jeb hawkes.

while there are always plenty of s.y.t's the male human being becomes something of an endangered species in collinsport.
