oh my aching liver...i can't wait to play!

perhaps we could get a round going in someone's hotel room at the fest.i'm sure we could get a few actors to join us as well. :-X

i picked vicki,laura and mrs.johnson.

charcters like burke, jason and joe would have been great but sadly by this point i think that they had been gone for so long that there would not have been much viewer recognition.or at least their reappearance wouldn't have had much impact(to viewers at the time).vicki's a stretch but because she had been so pivotal it might have had some impact.laura had recently appeared in 1897 so she would have been fresh in viewers' minds.and of course mrs.johnson just needed to be there.period.

the producers seemed to like to cast actors who had appeared in the storyline immediately before it.thus alot of the leviathan actors show up in 1970pt.this was very short-sighted thinking but it seems to be the way things worked because laura collins was the only character who was away for years and showed up in a later storyline.

Current Talk '06 I / "new" characters after 1897
« on: March 14, 2006, 01:46:23 AM »
this odd thought crossed my mind today.

because 1897 was the show's highest rated storyline that means there were thousands of viewers who had never watched before this.thus they had never "met" victoria winters or burke devlin or joe haskell or most of the characters that populated the earlier part of the show.

but for that matter they actually knew very little about "present time" barnabas collins' situation either.or that quentin first appeared as a ghost.they had never "met" carolyn stoddard or roger collins or maggie evans either.

so when the storyline returned to the present these were essentially "new" characters to these viewers that they had to be "introduced" to.which is funny when you remember that most of them had been on the show for years.

these viewers experienced the show in reverse to the way most of us have.they might have recognized the actors who played roles in 1897 but had no idea who thier present time counterparts were.imagine the first time elizabeth stoddard walked into a room and saying "who's that?".long time viewers would patiently explain "that's liz.she owns the house.she's carolyn's mother" or "that's maggie evans.she used to be a waitress but now she's david's tutor".to them maggie evans was just some girl who looked like kitty hampshire.

that must have been strange.like i said...odd thought. ::)

Current Talk '06 I / Re: victoria in parallel time?
« on: March 11, 2006, 07:12:18 PM »
just another thought.

since the main cast was away filming the movie for much of the storyline it would have been a great opportunity to bring back diana millay.perhaps in this time band she wasn't a pheonix but some other type of character.i want to see more of the familiar characters here.

i realize why this wasn't possible but i think it would have been way cooler to focus this storyline on the "parallel" versions of the main cast.they introduce us to potentially very interesting variations on liz, roger, carolyn and willie and then we see very little of them and the story focuses on "b-team" players like cyrus, sabrina and bruno(the cyrus/yeager plot is a dud for me.i do like buffy harrington however).

i know that characters like liz, roger and carolyn return later on but they still only appear in less than twenty episodes of this storyline and that ain't enough.

that said the angelique/alexis stuff is cool and it's great that david selby and lara parker get to do some great work here.

i sometimes wonder this myself.

are any of those anonymous "guests" lurking at our board actually d.s. cast members?

does johny karlen ever take a peek just for fun?

and what about people like lara parker, diana millay and kathryn leigh scott who publish books based on thier work on the show.reading this board(which i consider to be the "defininitive" source online)provides "real-time" research opportunities.a place to find out what's on the fan's minds.

what would elexandra moltke think if she knew she had the undying adoration of a queer boy not even alive when this silly show aired? ::)

Current Talk '06 I / Re: 1795 storyline what if.
« on: March 09, 2006, 01:39:42 AM »
interesting premise.

however by the end of the 1795 storyline barnabas was sickened by angelique and wanted nothing more than to be rid of her so perhaps by biting her and turning her into a vampire as well he would have forged some sort of bond and perhaps even a dependecy between them.

and he certainly didn't need that. ::)

i didn't watch the oscars but when i saw pictures of charlize in the papers the next day i totally see the resemblance.

i think it was the updo and witchy dior gown.also something about the eyes.

she would make a stunning angelique.it's fun to imagine the show cast with top-tier hollywood stars.

Current Talk '06 I / Re: Carl Collins -
« on: March 08, 2006, 01:27:40 AM »
I too, loved Carl and wished his character could have been around for a bit longer than he was.

Do you realize that HALF of the characters that are introduced in 1897 die?! In my awesomeness, I actually say down once and wrote out all the characters introduced, and then made tallies of if they were alive by the end of the story or not. There was something like 50 characters, and 25 of them were murdered.  :o

the body count by the end of 1795 was pretty high too.as someone pointed out here recently in any other time period major characters could get bumped off yet in the present the primary cast remained pretty static.

i missed a portion of 1897.could someone tell me(in a spoiler of course)what became of magda and sandor.when i resumed the storyline both characters were absent and i never knew why.

Current Talk '06 I / Re: Guthrie vs. Stokes
« on: March 08, 2006, 01:20:34 AM »
Guthrie had no charm or depth of perception like  Elliot Stokes.    It's too bad that Thayer didn't play the role since the charecter he was playing was killed off not long before.

i'll have to disagree with this.i found dr.guthrie to be a very interesting character.

his on-screen chemistry with laura was excellent.thier cat-and-mouse scenes really crackle.

Current Talk '06 I / victoria in parallel time?
« on: March 05, 2006, 08:52:05 PM »
o.k. i know i'm obsessing however...

i've been watching the the first several episodes of 1970 parallel time.it has a very unique feel.

but i can't help thinking it would have been really cool to have gotten alexandra moltke back for this storyline.
since alexandra wanted to play a villinous role yet dan curtis vowed never to cast her as a character other than victoria it could have a perfect opportunity to write the character during this time band as more complex or perhaps even evil.if well done it would have been a win-win situation.

it would have been awsome to see a not-so-nice vicki go head-to-head with angelique...and can you imagine barnabas' reaction to finding her here?!

since alexandra's departure was abrupt and this was only a three month storyline it would have been a cool way to send the character off.perhaps even in this time band she might have found some peace rather than the unfortunate fate she suffered in 'real time'. :(

p.s. i absolutely love p.t. hoffman!i also think p.t. elizabeth, roger and carolyn are very interesting characters as well.it's disappointing that they don't get more screen time.i guess they were mostly off filming the movie.

it will come as no surprise to anyone here that despite her supposed "blandness" i find alexandra moltke as victoria winters to be mesmerizing. [love10]

vicki sort of loses the bow after 1795.

she then frequently wears her hair in a ponytail or down completely.this saddened me. :'(

perception is a funny thing.

because of angelique's stature she comes across as taller than maggie when in fact they are close in height.

i was very surprised to see how petite diana millay is when i met her in person.her powerful characterization of laura projects a much bigger person.

she's tiny.

d.s. hasn't directly influenced what i wear but i guess the character i most dress like is joe haskell.

jeans,steele-towed workboots,plaid hunting jackets,dark cropped hair.i'm often told i look rather "butch". ;)

i haven't seen these episodes in a long time but if i'm remembering this correctly carolyn was really gross here.

true she's spoiled and petulant and flirtatious(qualities i usually adore in her)but in these episodes she comes across as crude and rather slatternly:loose with burke(didn't she take off her shoes?),hateful and hurtful with joe, totally unconcerned with her missing and possibly in danger "friend" vicki.

carolyn really yucked me out here.
