rainey,

we've been posting here together for a long time.you know i would never suggest that we as a fanbase were too "ill-mannered" to be polite to anyone who attended the fest.

but tell me the truth.what do you invision as a reception for ms.durkin?standing ovations?lengthy autograph lines?a huge run on her book about men's tailoring?

more than anything else i just feel as though it might prove to be an awkward and not especially lucrative experience for her.

i hate to be negative but i think it's extremely unwise on ms.durkin's part to attend the fest and get up on stage with the original actors from the show.what is she going to have to say?wasn't she released from the show because of poor viewer reaction?

she has to know what a fiercly devoted fanbase d.s. has and that the fans are going to want to meet the actress who originated the part of victoria winters and played her for nearly three years as apposed to an actress who assumed the role for only ten episodes.

i realize that she has books to sell and this probably seems like a good business opportunity but i think it's an error in judgement.

Couldn't we simply this by saying generally the actors left due to 1) boredom or 2) salary disputes?   :P

because that wouldn't be that much fun. :P

He must have been feeding offscreen.  My theory is that he was visiting neighboring towns too.

Hey, just because they didn't show Liz, Roger, Carolyn and David eating post-1966 doesn't mean they didn't eat from 1967 to 1971 right?

that's true penny.
in the 1966 episodes they feature the kitchen at collinwood and of course the diner and the characters do in fact eat.it's strange that once the show goes supernatural they stopped that.

did proffessor stokes actually consume cheese in the evening to help him unwind or did he just talk about it?

i was surprised during the parallel-time episodes to see the kitchen and when maggie and quentin first return to collinwood from thier honeymoon hoffman has set a table for them in front of the fireplace.being evil of course she served angelique's favorite.some sort of crab thing i recall served in a fancy silver chaffing dish type thing.

once barnabas goes from being the villian to the guilt-ridden "anti hero" they really down play his daily cravings for blood.

it's still there and it comes up periodicaly as a plot twist(think megan todd)but it's not the focus of the character.he certainly didn't do really repulsive things like drain barnyard animals of thier blood as the character did when he first appeared.

i just finished the 1970 parallel-time storyline and while barnabas is a vampire here(remember the whole reason he stepped into the parallel-time room in the first place is because his cravings for blood were intesified at the time and he sought relief)he bites a few characters early in the plot but then they sort of drop it because he's the good guy here and it doesn't really come up again until roxanne.

b.t.w...
be does bite buffie harrington but they just sort of abandoned her and that part of the plot.did barnabas and julia leave someone under the vampire curse loose in parallel time or when barnabas leaves that time were those under his power released?
it's interesting when mere happenstance changed the set-up and sent the storyline in different directions.

mitch ryan as burke devlin is a good example.he left the show abruptly and was replaced by an actor who only signed on for six months.but as one of the show's original leads he must have had something of a long-term contract.let's say two years.

how would the storyline have differed had ryan fullfilled his contactural obligations and not been replaced by an actor who played the character so differently?ryan's burke was angry and belligerent.anthony george's was quiter, calmer.one can easily imagine ryan hammering a stake through someone's heart but could he have played the good jeremiah?would the 1795 storyline have been told differently and how would burke have fit into the plot post-1795?the departure of both actors made it possible for the vicki/peter romance to blossom and that became the obstacle for barnbas to deal with.

b.t.w. i always heard that once the show went into time travel anthony george wanted out post-haste.

alexandra moltke is another good example.while it is frequently debated whether or not victoria drifted towards "absolencence" as the time passed she too had a contract.i've understood from reputable sources it was for five years.so had "fate" not intervened and she hadn't become pregnant and simply fullfilled the obligations of the contract she would have remained on the show for it's entire run.what are the implications of that?would there have been less time travel?would dan curtis have relented and cast her as another character?at some point it wouldn't have made sense to keep plunking this girl down in differnt time periods.

had alexandra not left there never would have been need for maggie to take over as collinwood governess.so what would have kathryn leigh scott have done?bringing her into collinwood gave maggie some footing at a time when the character was rather adrift.

had "factor x" been "factor y" things could have played out very differently.

i was just noticing that myself.

obviously the writers didn't deliberately plan thing like this but it's amusing when they come up.

they do say that "the legs are the last to go" because i remember in cassandra's aged state her mini revealed the lovely gams of a young woman.

it's also interesting that sam earned the wrath of both of roger's wives by revealing something about them through his paintings. >:D

Calendar Events / Announcements '06 I / kls on "dynasty"
« on: May 22, 2006, 05:56:46 PM »
i'm currently between dvds and needed a soap fix so i rented "dynasty" season one.

a few episodes in i was startled to see kathryn leigh scott.she played cecil colby's secretary "jennifer".
inexplicably she uses a really lame british accent and has awful "feathered" hair(she tells fallon carrington 'oh i do love your outfit.').

later in the episode blake carrington's ambitious driver michael tries to pick jen up.there's lots of chat about what part of london she's from and it's a really hokey scene.

in subsequent episodes it's revealed that michael has been obtaining top-secret info from jennifer(a "british wench" according to fallon)but kls isn't seen on camera again.

I think it's interesting in the first few episodes of 1795 they have Angelique and Josette converse a bit in French but then dropped it later. Would Angelique as a servant be as well versed in English as she was?

arashi,

i don't know if you've seen the pre-barnabas episodes but during the laura collins storyline they conduct a seance(the show's first)and vicki goes into a trance and becomes possessed by the spirit of josette collins.here the spirit only speaks in french.

an absolutely awsome scene.

i just saw that episode very recently and it's true that kls handled it like a champ.

i actually didn't even notice the flub during my first viewing.it was only after watching it a second time i picked it up.it was sort of an odd flub on frid's part because josette wasn't even part of the parallel-time storyline.
perhaps just working with kls brought josette to mind.

was josette ever mentioned during parallel-time?i forget.parallel-time maggie was the only kls character barnabas didn't persue romantically.

Current Talk '06 I / Re: Barnabas' restoration of the Old House...

of course all of this could simply have been a case of the producers being caught between a rock and a hard place.

they hired sharon smyth to play a ghost long before anyone knew that sarah would eventually become a flesh and blood character playing opposite frid.so when the storyline traveled back to 1795 they had no choice but to use her and hope audiences wouldn't question the age difference.

what's also funny is that kids at that age grow very quickly.so by the end of the 1795 storyline sarah looks much older than she did when her ghost first appeared in 1967.

the distance between collinwood and the old house seems to change as often as the year of josette collins' death.

it changes from being about half a mile away to just across the lawn according to that episode's storyline needs.

i just watched the episode where it first appears and here it had to have been some distance away from collinwood because vicki had been there for several weeks at this point and had never seen or even heard of it.
considering how much time she spent snooping around in the early days that's saying something.these episodes b.t.w. have excellent exterior shots with alexandra, david and thayer all wandering around the woods and the house.

sometimes however characters can move between the two houses in record time.case in point.
i recall one episode in 1967 where vicki, carolyn and julia are in the drawing room.carolyn offers to make some coffee.julia siezes the opportunity to place vicki under hypnosis, lead her to the old house, show her barnabas in his coffin and lead her back to collinwood in the few minutes it would have taken carloyn to make the coffee unless she was supposed to have harvested and roasted the beans herself.
as for the 30-odd year age difference between barnabas and sarah i always thought that was kind of ridiculous.

it really is interesting how josette(or at least her ghost)was firmly established as a character almost from the very begining.certainly way before barnabas collins ever was.

as far as last names go they use angelique's(bouchard)so infrequently that it's easy to forget that she ever had one.i don't remember anyone ever directly calling her by that name and certainly not "miss bouchard".was it common for household servants to be refered to only by thier first name in the eighteenth century?

even in the credits she's billed as "lara parker as angelique..."(unless of course she's appearing under one of her many guises).

the credits only seemed to give some special billing to three actors:joan bennett, jonathan frid and alexandra moltke.

was anyone else ever given a "special guest star" type credit?
