I think these photos were from an episode of the Dream Curse storyline; am I right?  Or is it the one from the original Adam "Experiment" sequence where Vicki was telling Barnabas how terrified she was of Cassandra and he found himself staring a little too intently at her neck?  (I do love that scene.)

gothick,

i don't know if these photographs were specific to any episode.my guess is that they were taken sometime in early 1968.

but my avatar is actually a still from the episode you speak of with the scene between vicki and barnabas(which i loved too).
i just noted this recently when i happened to re-watch this episode.barnabas is staring longingly at vicki's neck and the avatar is vicki at the moment she turns around and glances at barnabas.she asks barnabas if he's alright and he excuses himself and beats a hasty retreat to dr.lang's place and once again miss winters dodges a bullet. ;)

congratulations on your win.

that's a great picture on the cover.

here's an absolutely useless piece of trivia for you.the black and white tartan dress vicki wears in all of the photographs taken during this shoot(several were also used for the trading cards)never actually appears on the show itself.i looked for it. :P

so one can assume the dress was alexandra moltke's own.

happy 40th!!!

when i first started watching nearly five years ago i had no idea what an addict i'd become.i had never before become so involved in any type of entertainment but it's proven to be a fun hobby.

as i do every year on the birthday i'll watch episode one. :-*

i agree with barnabas' bride that when joan bennett is given good material to work with she usually rises to the occasion.sometimes when her characters are on the back-burner she just phones it it.

leviathan is a controversial storyline.some people absolutely despise it.but one thing i did like about it was that elizabeth was given some meaty material.liz could easily have been left "out of the loop" on this one.a clueless outsider in her own house.drifting about the periphery with a tea-tray worrying about carolyn.but she was included in the plot and i think icy "leviathan liz" had some really great scenes(although i do concede that the plotline as a whole was preposterous).

i also agree with pansity about tom jennings as a vampire.those bulging eyes.that wagging tongue.it was d.s. at it's camp worst(although i did like don briscoe in some other roles).that this plot occured concurrently with the adam storyline to me represents the moment when the show's producers decicively left the adult audience and actively persued those kids that you-know-what.later on i think the writing returned to more adult friendly storytelling.

i'm never tempted to fast-forward during a first viewing of any episode no matter how much a particular character might annoy me(although adam/harry johnson/jeff-ned-whoever did try my patience).i just want to see what happens.
during future viewings i might grab the remote if a particular character or scene i dislike comes up.

one actress i adore who sometimes surprised me with inconsistent performances was joan bennett.when she's spot-on she's dynamite.i absoltuely love all of her characters.liz/naomi/judith all class up an episode with an appearance.

but sometimes she's off her game and it shows.i just finished 1970p.t. and not only did she seem unsure of herself here but on occasion she was physically clumsy.i recall one scene when liz and sabrina walk down the stairs into the lab and joan trips.another she bumps into the couch.she was just strange during this time.

i guess being such a seasoned performer i always expect the best from her but we all have our days.

Thanks for the report, it sounds like it was a pleasant event.

You know, I think they do know when they run into a fan elsewhere, even if you don't say you are. There's probably some look in our eyes or an aura of subdued excitement or something that sets off the fan radar.

that's so true arashi.

it's a very strange sensation when you meet one of "them" for the first time.the first d.s. actor i ever met in person was diana millay at the 2003 fest.for some reason she had her table set up before anyone else.as it happened i had recently completed the laura collins storyline(which i adored)so i was just mesmerized by her.

later that weekend when i met nancy and kathryn i had that same feeling.but these actors were attending an event held for d.s. so they were probably expecting intense fan reaction.

as for the event with alexandra like i said she was polite.but still something told me she somehow knew i wasn't exactly a huge fan of documentaries about community gardens.

i kept my cool...but you guys know how creamy i think victoria is. ::)

i just got back.

ms.isles was in fact in attendence at both the documentary's screening and the informal reception held afterwards.

let's say that the more things change(she wore a top with sleeves)the more they stay the same(she still wears her hair"vicki style").

there was a fair crowd.kind of "crunchy".after the screening ms.isles got up and briefly thanked those who worked on the film with her.she was then presented with this sort of tie-dyed wrap thing that some of the children from the gardens made for her.sweet.

then the audience moved to the reception held in a community garden on the lower east side.ms.isles was surrounded by numerous friends and well wishers.under the circumstances(the event being held to honor her new film)i decided that any refernce to d.s. would have been inappropriate but when i left i told her i enjoyed the film and she shook my hand and said thank you.she was polite but still i wondered if she somehow "knew".

40 years on the girl's still kind of dreamy. :P

oh,and the film was nice too.if anyone's interested in ordering a copy it's available for home video at $29.99.

i don't believe it's technically her "theme" but there is a piece of music they always used for vicki in 1967.

it always brings to mind her standing on the terrace in the moonlight, fountain tinkling, waiting for burke to show up. :-*

Current Talk '06 I / p.t.angelique.a witch...or just a bitch?
« on: June 19, 2006, 04:41:29 PM »
i recently completed 1970 parallel time so perhaps i should be clearer on this point but i'm not sure.

what was the deal with angelique in this time period?she wasn't a straight-forward witch in the same way real time angelique was but she did seem to possess some sort of supernatural powers.it's stated from the start that she had an affinity for the occult but it dosen't spell that out.

she understands voodoo and also has the ability to place people under her control.but she doesn't utilize these powers as often as she could.for instance she could have placed julia under her control(once she realizes who she really is)but she dosen't.

she seems to achieve alot of her goals simply by being manipulative and, well, bitchy(think maggie and the dress at the costume party).

so what's the deal with angelique here???

carolyn:"oh mother relax he's just a biker.it's not like i'm dating...i don't know...some sort of artificailly created frankenstein type monster or a slimy creature from earth's ancient past."

I find it rather amusing that some nights the family is up ALL HOURS and this appears to be the norm, while other nights they are all in bed by 9:00! If the family kept such odd hours, imagine what the servants sleep patterns were like.

that is so true!

some nights these people are just up until near dawn.other times(especially liz)it's lights out at sundown.

perhaps because certain characters could only function at night they needed to maximize that time so you have some nights that stretch into a week's worth of episodes. ::)

i agree with pansity that the presence of servants is "implied" rather than having the characters actually appear on screen.they frequently get mentioned in most time periods.

the exception would be the present where it is clearly established that liz dismissed the entire staff eighteen years earlier and since that time only matthew morgan, and later mrs.johnson, are the only servants in the house.

speaking of mrs.j. such is her devotion to the collins clan that it is easy to forget that she actually first came to collinwood to spy for burke devlin and help him bring down the family.

i remember once in 1795 some sort of hatted maid delivered a note to millicent.
in 1970pt there also is apprently a full staff.besides a maid(hoffman) and a butler(trask) there is talk of a cook,a gardener and several chambermaids.again these characters go unseen.

good topic pansity.

you're right about the timing of all this.the types of industries that first built the collins' family fortune(whaling, shipbuilding)would have been in steep decline by the 1960's.

also a factor to consider is simply how the show's plotting changed over time.

when the show began in 1966 it was a traditional "soap opera" so things like family fortunes in decline were common storylines.

once the show centered on supernatural plotting that type of thing became less important.especially during the time travel storylines.

setting up a backdrop of immense wealth here created a more colorful atmosphere.there could be elaborate sets and costuming.servants could be worked into the plot.a grudgeful townspeople.apart from the main estate and its outbuildings there could be private mausoleums and cemetaries.all the types of things only great wealth could support.

and of course that old chestnut about how the vast collins' family wealth and position could do things like rewrite the town's records and history books must have made for writing the family as hugely wealthy irresistable for the show's writers.

i noticed that during 1970 parallel time the family's finances seemed to be in great shape too and even during the present time episodes after awhile there is no mention of financial straights and they just seemed to be quite rich...again allowing for a more colorful backdrop.
